“Great stop-over or short-stay hotel”
Reviewed September 9, 2011

We stayed in the hotel for one night on our way from Brittany to Brussels and had a great experience in the hotel and in the town of Amiens.

The hotel was quite easy to find with a little help from GPS and check in was fast and efficient. We had 2 rooms with a connecting door and a double and a sofa-bed, which fit the 2 adults and 4 kids traveling very nicely. The rooms were not large but clean, comfortable and relatively well appointed, with a minibar, free wifi connections and flatscreen TV's with a decent selection of channels.

The hotel itself has decent amenities, there is a small pool and a restaurant (which we did not try out), and a small bar, public computer and xbox station (which we did).

Amiens itself is a lovely small town, the hotel is some way away from the center (around 20 minutes by car) but it is worth the trip if you have the time - we spent a lovely evening just walking around the center and the restaurants along the canals.

All-in-all, this is a great hotel for a short-stay in Amiens or if you are transiting through France and need a stop-over point.

This is a basic, concrete block in the commercial outskirts of a not very pretty French City. We stayed here for one night en route from Paris to the coast. Despite booking two weeks in advance and saying we were a family group with children, we were allocated two, non-connected smoking rooms. Frankly, they stank. Despite it being only 3pm and with a corridor of open, unoccupied rooms undergoing a final clean, we were told no non-smoking rooms were available. I stuck to my guns. So did the front desk person. Finally, after an unproductive and frankly unnecessary exchange, a manager appeared, over-rode the bookings system and suddenly two interconnected non-smoking rooms became available. These were perfectly adequate for the stay, though pretty basic. On the upside, the beds were very comfortable.

We made the mistake of ordering a snack at the bar. Service was slow to the point of near-non existent and the pre-made and heated-up paninis and club sandwiches were a disgrace to french cooking. With such beautiful baked products all around, how can Novotel possibly justify serving up such unedifying soggy afterthoughts? It was 54 euro wasted.

Amiens is an unpromising town (being twinned with Darlington says it all), but it does have a beautiful cathedral and small canal area with a selection of reasonably priced restaurants. For us, it was redeemed by some really excellent crepes and cider!

We didn't bother with breakfast in the hotel next day - preferring to get some fresh baguette and croissants from the local Intermarche. However, breakfast at 13.95 euro per head still appeared on the bill at check out - though was swiftly removed.

As a logical, functional overnight stop, the hotel served its purpose. But they made it a less pleasant experience than it might haver been.

Room Tip: Unless you like the smell of nicotine infusing every aspect of the stay, make sure you ask for a no...

We stayed here for three nights on a room only basis. The room was a decent size, clean and tidy, but although a non-smoking room it did have two cigarette burns in the carpet. We had booked the room for ourselves and our daughter, but the hotel only supplied towels for two people, and tea, paper cups etc. for two people. One evening we ate in the restaurant, but the food was very mediocre. Cold plates and semi warm food. Very disappointing. We decided not to have breakfast as it was very pricey. On the plus side the hotel staff were very pleasant. There is ample free parking, and the drive into Amiens is more or less a direct road from the hotel to the town centre, where there is plenty of underground cheap(ish) parking. There are buses, but if you have a car the drive into town is very straight.

Room Tip: Ask for a non-smoking room if you're a non-smoker.

Very nice, large and clean room. Generally good service (with one exception in the bar).
Good breakfast buffé but expensive - not included. Would not recommend the restaurant. Location: in the middle of nowhere. Just a couple of hotels in the vicinity. Need car for everything (shopping, sightseeing, restaurants etc). About 7 kilometers to Amiens.

Overall a very comfortable room with good facilities and very pleased with response from staff at reception and in the breakfast room. Very good variety of food at breakfast, which we all enjoyed. Occasionally some of the food could have been kept topped up, such as once there were no pancakes and very little scrambled eggs. We would have preferred proper cups for tea and coffee rather than paper ones and the TV reception and controls could have been better, as well as more channels. A washbasin in the toilet would be a good idea, as well as locks on the doors.
