Gasthof Bad Hochmoos
Reviewed February 28, 2013

We had a fabulous family skiing holiday staying at this pretty family-run hotel. Nothing is too much trouble for the ubiquitous Hans (the owner). The hotel is very clean, warm and comfortable and the junior suites have separate bedrooms for the children, plenty of storage, a small lounge area and a table. Our bathroom had a shower but no bath. The floor was heated which made drying gloves, socks, swimwear etc very easy and felt luxurious! There is a free bus service into Lofer for the skiiing, a ten minute journey, or a 25 minute walk if you want to take in the beautiful scenery. The hotel has a small pool which the kids loved as well as a sauna and steam room. You can have hot chocolate and Austrian cakes when you come in from skiing - but beware the portions are huge! Dinner was good but not great - I don't think the sauces were home-made. The fondue sounded good but fell flat - the pieces of raw meat had to be cooked in hot water "soup" - this took ages and the boiled beef, turkey and pork was not particulary tasty. However I loved the hotel and would stay there again.

Room Tip: Go for a junior suite if you are with children and ask specifically if you want a bath

This property is a standout amid some very tough competition. It is the product of generations of hands-on care by the owners. The breakfast buffet was simply the best anywhere around, by a longshot. The host was very accomodating. It has a gorgeous pool. It is essentially brand new in appearance although I am not sure of the date of it's construction, and although it is modern through and through, it is at the same time true to the strict, high standards of what I call "classical" Austrian architecture. The same holds true for the decoration and furnishing, up-to-date and yet true to it's roots.

This hotel appears to provide long term care for the incurably Austrian.

The food is absolutely, truly and stunningly awful: Mince wrapped in cabbage, turkey kebabs in a faux curry sauce with tagliatelle and homeopathic orange juice.

The hotel is clean and well appointed - Austrian lite - and our room was huge combining a sleeping area, a seating area and a table area which appeared to have been taken from a Little Chef. However, it does have the feel of a Christian conference centre. Odd (not bad) and very slightly NHS trust.

The hotel is quite some way outside of Lofer which is a very pretty town with a wonderful public pool. Beautiful setting with back drop of stunning mountains.

It is quite difficult to determine why this hotel exist or who it is aimed at but it does exist and it is supremely ok.

Very nice hotel. My room was very large and comfortable. The bath included plenty of towels. The dining room was pretty and the food was very good. One morning the breakfast bar even allowed for juicing raw carrots. There was a wedding party reception just below my room which ran late one night but I enjoyed eavesdropping on the celebration. There was a nice outdoor cafe with good service. The waiters and waitresses were dressed in charming Austrian attire. There wasn't much of a lobby or outside area for lounging but that is a minor deficit. I'd definitely stay here again.

We have just spent Christmas at this hotel with three small children. Very welcoming staff and the food was delicious even though it was a limited half board menu and very accommodating for our fussy children!

We have stayed twice for skiing and have booked again. The hotel is imacculately clean and staff are excellent. This is a family run hotel who care about your holiday and are very keen to make your stay enjoyable. The kids loved the swiming pool. The location of the hotel is beautiful. Highly recommended.

It took a bit to find the Hotel but the location is really beautiful. Nestled amidst the mountains, the views are amazing. Too bad it rained most of the time we were there. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. They have all the spa facilities though we did not make use of them due to paucity of time. The food in the restaurant is nothing outstanding. You have to pay for the internet access which is a desktop near the reception. Overall a comfortable overnight stay en-route.
