We have been in hotels with many starts all around the globe and also in many family hotels, but none compares to Replerhof. In short, the culinary delights, the loving, quality and extensive child care, the location and surrounding stunning nature, the spatious, comfortable rooms, the lots of organic and wellness experience, the atmosphere and style (very beautifully fitting into the location) of the hotel executed with lots of love and attention to detail and beauty - are all unparalleled.
Cannot say what was the best - all. The owners are not stingy with anything and are never trying to make shortcuts just to tick a box that they have a service (unlike most other similar hotels with AI, e.g. in the heavily advertised Alpenrose where it is very much the case), but you get the best of everything. The food is like going out to a special restaurant every morning and evening. You get pampered by a large variety of salads and fresh vegetables (even the most expensive Austrian hotels are often low on these even in Summer, but this was Winter!); they served fish at least 5 times during the week, game also many times, goose breast, etc - really the most expensive and fine ingredients. The breakfast is superb and you do not find this out from other reviews - honey from organic honeycomb; blood orange from which you can squeeze juice for yourself as much as you like; fantastic (organic) seeds and cereals you can grate yourself to make the most delicious musli you want, sheep yougurt, and many other delicacies. Yes, there is no hot breakfast, but you do not miss it because everything else is SO delicious. I have never had so tasty breads - once I had no temptation to eat the white stuff because all the wholegrain and black breads were SO yummy.
In general, EVERYTHING tasted much better than elsewhere - I think it is because they serve mostly organic food, if possible, from local sources - you can really feel this on their taste. But of course what the kids loved most - the self-service ice-cream (many types) after lunch, dinner and at the cake.
The child care is just the best - I was almost crying when we left, I got to like SO much the two very sweet kindergardeners. They are always very very loving to your child, and really take care of them, unlike in other hotels where this is also often just a box-ticker, you just put your kid in and they are on their own. The kinderklub itself is again equipped with a lot of love and attention to quality; although there could be a bit more toys in it perhaps. In addition to all, it is a farm so the children feed many types of animals every day - they love it.
The location is just fantastic - surrounded by 3000m high peaks in arm's reach. The cross-country ski courses are SO beautiful that I do not know if I have seen more picturesque things before in my life (alpine village covered in snow). There are many slides with the house so you can enjoy the snow in almost any way you want (and due to its location and special microclimate you have tons of snow also when there is no snow anywhere else (our case....)). The Matrei ski resort has perhaps the longest courses in Austria. There is also ice ring in the village.
If you still have time to do anything else after all these opportunities, the wellness area is fantastic - very very beautiful. OK, the deep pool is really really small so do not expect to swim, but we had great fun in it playing with our children, who also have a large baby pool (although it is cold! please warm the water more in the baby pool...). And while you dip, you feel like you are out in the snow as the whole wall on one side is made of glass (so you are not in a dark basement as in many hotels). The hours are also very generous, unlike in most other hotels where in theory there is wellness and pool, but when you would have time (after dinner if you spend your day skiing or hiking) it is closed - not here. So even our teenagers did not feel bored or out of place despite the fact that the only other kids there then were under 6.
The rooms are superb because they are not these tiny doubles as in most hotels - but fantastic family apartments of family rooms so you do not feel stuck if it rains or if you cannot go out. They are very spatious.
Service - what speaks for itself is that we ran late with our arrival (I think around 10PM). They serve dinner until 8, but they waited for us, and (their first offer was some ham and bread and when I was not too enthusiastic about hearing this after 10 hours of driving) they served this fantastic several course dinner without making compromises even on the aesthetics and serving. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! That dinner felt really good and really set us up for a great vacation.
The only sad thing was that it ended! ;-))
Thanks, Replerhof, we will be back!!
