“A brilliant family campsite”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

We stayed here as a family of four (2 children aged 4 and 2) from 14-25 August 2013.

We booked a Junior plus cottage direct with the site and were on plot A18 which was fab. Nice and big and close to the pool and shop. Although this was the cheapest accommodation available, there was plenty of space, it was spotlessly clean and perfectly comfortable.

The highlight of the site is the swimming complex which is fantastic, plenty for the kids to do and although there have been comments about the lack of lifeguards, I prefer a more relaxed pool environment to one where you can't do much for fear of having the whistle blown at you! Inflatables are allowed in the pools (not sure if that's official or not but certainly there seemed to plenty in all the pools), as are balls, buckets/spades etc. For the kids, it's absolutely spot on and the happier they are, the more relaxed we are!

We'd read about the mosquito situation so we went armed with body sprays, room sprays, plug ins, candles, after bite etc and either it wasn't as bad as we were anticipating or the repellents were doing their job! They certainly weren't a huge issue where were were, just be sensible and protect yourself.

The onsite shop is well equipped for your basics and in nearby Marennes there's a large InterMarche and E.Leclerc where we did our main shopping. The onsite take away pizza's are great as are the kids meals. The wait time is fine, one night took longer but that was a changeover day so it was particularly busy. Certainly nothing to complain about.

We didn't venture off site much so can't really comment on what's out and about. One evening we went to Youpi land which the kids loved. It's cheaper to get in after 9pm but did get very busy after that time. We got there around 7.30pm which was perfect as the kids more of less had the place to themselves.

This was our first year holidaying on a French campsite and I would certainly recommend Sequoia Parc. We'd been to a fantastic site in Spain the year before so Sequoia Parc had a lot to live up to - and it did.

Room Tip: Book direct with the site and pre book your plot for an additional 25€. There's a full site map...

Large site in beautiful countryside, Large pool area with slides etc and lots to do on site. We pitched our camper on a grand comfort pitch which was very spacious and private with water and drainage. We would certainly revisit in the future and to see more of the local area, as we only booked a long weekend we didn't leave the site as there was so much to do. The only negative was the lack of loungers by the pool compared to volume of guests, this led people to queue at the pool gates 30 minutes before opening like the January sales to grab a lounger which seemed a bit ridiculous.

Room Tip: We arrived early at 11 am but were not allowed on to our pitch until 12.30 which appears to be the r...

2nd time staying at Sequoia Parc and family enjoyed again.

We downgraded our van this time and stayed in a Cottage De Luxe for 7 people (also a lot cheaper to book direct with the site). We are a family of 5 and the space was just enough and a modern van with plenty of storage.

As you are responsible for the clean before the next arrival it will all depend who is in before you. Ours was of acceptable standard but tin openers etc needed a good wash before use.

Yes there is mosquitos but didn't seem to be anymore than last year and I think its just France as we have had them bad when staying down South. Used all the normal Deet, Avon Dry spray, plus plug-ins etc but they do get you.

Went slightly earlier than last year and was busy around the pool and although it is a bun fight to secure a sunbed it doesn't feel too over crowded. Life guard staff not much go in them this year and spent most their days chatting with each other and not watching the pools. Toilet area around the pool not as clean as last year.

The daily pool aerobics is very amusing to watch and they do try and organise various pool side games.

Evening entertainment on site is comical and we went twice - purely as the youngest enjoyed. Drinks cost a fortune 5.20 euros for a beer, 4 euros glass of wine. The bar area was busy but you could see a lot of people opening up their bags with their own drinks! (which I don't blame them - family of 5 a round of drinks was nearly 20 euros)

Youngest enjoyed her first horse riding lesson and they were very good and was a reasonable price.

Eldest "Kevin the teenager" got bored as there isn't much for that age group and you just have to reply on them (or pray) that they will make friends of a similar age.

Overall another good stay but I think the site needs a bit of maintenance and I can see why it has lost a star and now a 4* site. I would consider going again but for me I need to holiday where you can guaranteed Sun and don't return with so many bites.

Room Tip: Book direct and if you do in September you will receive usually 10% discount for the following year.

Took our large caravan and stayed for 18 nights.
Pool complex is great, pools are as large as they look in the pictures, in the pool itself you're not stuck for space. It does get very busy round the pool and too many people try and reserve beds with towels. Though the last couple of days the lifeguards started collecting up unattended ones which addressed the issue a bit. Late afternoon and early evening are fabulous though as plenty of space.
Pitch sizes are really good and your pitches are private, separated by hedges. Communal areas are not only immaculate but really pretty too. Some lovely ideas like herb gardens by the toilet blocks that you can help yourself to. The shower blocks were constantly being cleaned and there were plenty so, even in the height of season, I never queued.
Mosquitos- yes they really are as bad as everyone says, enough to put a little dampner on things. We ended up buying the wristbands with repellent in them which definitely seemed to work, also sprayed every night in the van and used normal spray repellent in the morning, GO PREPARED and it won't ruin things.
Surrounding areas- there isn't loads in the area. Getting onto the island often involves big traffic jams. There are some really great beaches along the road to Tremblade though and we used these instead, parking can be an issue at the height of the season but ALL the car parks were free. We visited La Rochelle a couple of times. Can't recommend the Aquarium enough, I've been to several in this country and this is 10 times better!!! We used the Eclerc supermarket towards Roquefort but there were nearer ones in Marennes which were ok just a bit smaller.
Supermarket on site- of course its more expensive for some things but its reasonably well stocked but we used it mostly for bread and croissants. They bake most of the day and they don't run out like many on site shops.
On site entertainment- we only went a couple of times, it was ok. The site is quiet after 11, which we liked but some may find a bit restricting. My kids went to kids club a couple of times, well run and plenty to do.
All in all a really good holiday!

Went here on recommendation, but the mosquitos were definitely worse than they'd experienced. It's a shame. The shop and mobile homes should be stocked with repellents for the rooms and body! The pools were lovely but I didn't know about the 1 hour towel rule, we took or own chairs! Pools could be chilly. Evening entertainment was amusing, for all the wrong reasons and the bars/ice creams over priced. Scuba diving on site was great. The circus was way too expensive. The information staff were very helpful, but the Castell reception staff were almost rude.

Our second year at sequoia park. The mossies are a problem, but that is what you get in this area! We bought deet spray from the campsite shops, and used a citronella candle. We all got bitten, but it was manageable with a bit of cream and antihistamines. We did see staff spraying areas around the farm, so they do what they can to help. The pool is great fun, and the temperature of the water was perfect - weather was hot so it was refreshing. It does get very busy and there are definately not enough sun beds. However, the staff do remove towels left on beds - quite funny to watch the reactions of people coming back from a long lunch etc to find their sun beds gone!
Like all campsites we have stayed at. The shop is more expensive than the big supermarkets, but it is well stocked. There is a big Intermarche and a Le Clerc in Marennes, only a 5 minute drive away. The bar is overpriced and the entertainment is not great, but we were happy sitting outside our caravan watching the kids play, and allaying badminton and boules ourselves.
We stayed in a cottage at the far side of the park, near the road, so it was a bit noisey. The accommodation was small, and the toilet was minuscule - my husband had to leave the door open so he could sit down!!! The cottage was very clean and we had loads of space outside.
So, another great holiday at sequoia park - I would recommend it, but be prepared to fight off the mossies!

Room Tip: If you are tall or on the large side, chose one of the larger accommodations - the premium chalets a...

We just came back from 2 weeks there. I'll go to the point:

1. Brittany has SO MUCH to offer although the weather IS unpredictable.
2. Nothing much to do outside the camp unless you jump into the car for 30 minutes and go to Royan, which again is nice but not Marbella if you know what I mean.
3. Mobile very good but no dishwasher like in most camps these days.
4. Camp supermarket ok although a bit dear as predictable.
5. Camp shop for accesories closed during lunches (hello???...)
6. Staff quite rude and not very helpful.
7. Camp too big - too many people in pool areas. Fab pools I must say but I prefer smaller campsites.
8. And the last one.... EVERYBODY WAS EATEN ALIVE by mosquitoes and horseflies. Up to 30 bites per person we got despite anti mosquito wrist bands, candles, plugs, sprays, you bloody name it.

We will not come back. MUCH better camps in other places I know in Brittany and Spain.
