“Relaxed relais”

Delightful rural setting, but easy access by train into Perugia.
Good quality hotel but with relaxed atmosphere. We enjoyed the buffet style dinner and thought it good value.

Great location for those travelling by car.

We are frequent travelers and consulted the Tripadvisor reviews of this hotel before booking. This gave us a pretty good idea of the pros and cons of the Relais San Clemente and helped us to make good choices so that we weren’t disappointed by the small lower edges of this hotel.
On the contrary: we loved this charming hotel with its friendly and hospitable staff. Each of these persons: from the gentle man at the reception, the ever smiling barista, the friendly waiters, to the kind housekeeping ladies, are all classy, warm hearted people.
We booked a "sport & relax" room, in which we were entitled to free internet, two bicycles, one hour of tennis a day and a balcony or terrace.
The hotel is close to the highway, which has the advantage that you can quickly travel to the many beautiful historic sites in the area, but if your room is situated at the rear of the hotel, you can hear the traffic, especially during daytime. Also, the (diesel) train that stops almost in the backyard of the hotel and brings you to Perugia in 20 minutes without parking worries, but can give some noise during the day. But neither of it is really disturbing. During the night everything is quiet.
To us the meals are, given the culinary value of this region, a bit of a missed opportunity. One has to realize that Italians eventually eat some pastry with a cappuccino in the morning and are not used to the exuberant breakfasts you can see in some big international hotels. But that breakfast in Relais San Clemente could really shine with a bigger choice of fresh local cheeses and meats, some sliced Italian tomatoes and an egg from a happy farm chicken would also add value.
We only booked bed & breakfast because we like alternating restaurants and cuisines. We went only once for dinner in de Relais San Clemente. The buffet was genuine Italian and nice, but did not show the value of true Umbrian cuisine. The too bright light and the fuss, because of people moving around in the restaurant, accentuates the lack of coziness.
You have real good opportunity to do some sports. If you like to go jogging there is a perfect 4 km trail from the hotel. This allows you an undisturbed run of 8 km along the Tiber (early in the morning it is nice and cool, but you have shadow in the evening). The bicycles of the hotel are great, maybe a little too small for real tall people. We didn’t try the tennis court.
This hotel is like a visit to Italian relatives: they will do the utmost to please you, in their own warm way.

Room Tip: The "sports & relax" rooms have a terrace with two bikes. Most of them are at the grou...

After staying in this hotel in 2011 with very positive feelings, we decided to go there again this year for 8 nights. Surprisingly dinner was a buffet now, in 2011 it was served at the table. This was a negative point, because people were now walking around and it was rather noisy. The hotel and rooms were clean, staff was very helpfull and polite. There is a small trainstation at the far end of the hotelgarden so you can easy take a 20 min. traintrip to the hart of Perugia. Traintickets are available at the hotelreception. We had a great stay!

We stayed for 9 nights at Relais San Clemente, at september 2012.

Positive:
* Nice location
* Good accomodations

Negative:
* Poor breakfast (croissants were gummyballs!!, breakfast till 10am-> at 9am no more sandwiches)
* Staff wasn't really motivated (minimum polied)
* Airco was old heating system that must be turned on by reception after non use..
* Room wasn't really clean.. Black stripe at the walls, mold at the showers (4-star hotel???)
* Wifi was to pay per full week (no dailly subscription possible - 12 euro per week)
* No possibilities for snack, nor non alcoholic (soda), only alcoholics or hot drink and water at the swimming pool

Umbrië was wondefull, but the hotel disillusioned

We stayed for the second time in this very good and peacefull hotel.
We booked a family room which was large enough for 2 adults and 2 children (9 and 5 years) because of the fact that we used our room just for sleeping.
Breakfast is good. There is enough bread and cake, coffee is served. They only thing we missed was egg (I know Italians don't eat this with breakfast but some eggs from time to time would be nice). At the evening, dinner was great. Last year, dinner was served at the table, this year it was a buffet and this we felt a little minus.
Swimming pool is great and very clean. We found it a pitty that bike hiring is very expensive (15 euro /hour for 1 bike). This could be much cheaper and also the reason why not used very often.
But never the less, we had a very, very nice holiday and would recommend this hotel to everybody.

A good set-up for families: they gave us a nice crib for the baby, there’s lots of space to run and play, there’s a pool, rental bicycles, etc. The place is surrounded by gardens where it would be pleasant to picnic, or just to sit. Our room was acceptable, if a bit drab, and since the place is so gigantic, it was a long walk from the elevator with our luggage. Staff was minimally polite. The real downsides, though, are these:
1. There are more rooms than parking spaces: we had trouble finding a spot every time we entered the lot.
2. Dinner: the hotel has a restaurant, but who wants to eat a buffet in Italy? And there’s nothing else close by.
3. The air conditioning seemed to be an add-on to an older heating system and was not nearly capable of cooling the room on a hot summer night.
4. It was farther from the Perugia center than we expected: a good 20-minute drive.

Was somewhat disappointed with our stay after reading all the great reviews.
First the Pros:
1. The setting is beautiful with lush spacious grounds
2. Breakfast buffet is plentiful and barista making cappucinos and espressos to order is a nice touch
3. Dinner buffer is fairly good
4. Nice to relax by the pool
now the CONS:
1. Checking in the front desk receptionist pointed to a luggage trolley which he suggested we roll to the parking lot, load and take up to the room ourselves.
2. This was by far the most cramped of our accomodations at 4 different hotels that I had booked in Italy for our family of 4. It had a king size bed with bunks beds a foot away. Very little space. We were told it was a room for 4 but no description was offered.
3. it is really tacky to charge for towels at a resort, the wifi fee was also the only one out of 3 other hotels
Overall, the ambiance is very pleasant and we liked taking our car to Perugia (no problem with parking) allowing us the flexibility of coming and going when we wanted but make sure you get more details on the room you are getting
