“Eurocamp 2013 trip”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

Just had 11 days on site . Eurocamp accommodation very good as always - clean and well put together, as we always remember it from multiple previous bookings with Eurocamp. Good news at Beach Garden was location of their mobile homes - decent distance form the bar and noise ! Only a 5 minute walk anyway to the bar/shop/restaurant/pool complex. Restaurant good, reasonable value, try the mixed grill ! Shop only ok - 10 minute drive to HyperU better value. Pool good but no slides for younger kids. Beach is next to the site and excellent - be warned, nudist beach is about 150 metres away.

Great team of guys on site, well done Gaz and Ste, Tom and Niall. Helpful when needed although not much we wanted really, but always cheery when spotted cycling by.

All in all, good family site, young or old (22,20 & 13 with us) with lively Marseillan Plage 'strip' about 10 minute walk away.

Steve & Carol plus 3

Room Tip: Eurocamp sites are away from the noise and well placed as a result !

Just returned from 10 day holiday with Eurocamp at Le Beach Garden, Marseillan Plage. We booked a Safari Tent for five of us which is the most luxurious camping we have ever done. Loads of space, proper beds, fridge freezer (essential in the heat), cooking facilities etc. we had a great pitch v close to beach and facilities but not so close as to be disrupted by noise and people walking past. We travelled to campsite by Eurostar then change in Paris for TGV (allow plenty of time to change stations - we are family of five and had to wait for a while at taxi rank at Gare du Nord to get taxi to fit us all). TGV is a wonderful way to travel. V comfortable, quiet and more room than Eurostar. Great scenery and stress free travelling for parents and three kids(aged 11, 6 & 5). Train took 4 and half hours to get to Agde where we got prebooked taxi to campsite (about 25 euros). We arrived late (8.30pm)but called rep and he came to greet us and help us with luggage and take us to tent. Found all Eurocamp reps v helpful. One of them would pop round every day to check if we needed anything, but didn't impose. Their local knowledge esp of public transport was v helpful. We stayed on site using pool a lot and beach. Also walked into Marseillan Plage proper (nice walk along beach in evening, about 1 and half miles). V busy holiday town and the main strip is full of cafes, bars, shops geared up for tourists so not to everyone's taste. We used on site grocery shop for a few things but v expensive. Also 10-15 min walk to nearest grocery store (flat easy walk but busy with cars and take your time in the heat). Few other grocery shops farther along and some wine caves for cheap local wine. We hired car for one day from Avis in Sete next to train station (booked via UK but expensive and should have done this in advance but impressed with service). To pick up car we walked into Marseillan Plage and picked up bus to Sete from Tourist Information Centre (about 30 min walk with our children). Bus v easy, cheap and friendly. When we returned car we took train back from Sete to Marseillan Plage which was cheap and quick but not v frequent. Like one of the previous reviewers we found the train station was in the middle of nowhere and a good 30 min walk BUT we got caught in a torrential downpour which didn't help and some parts of road aren't v pedestrian friendly. When we hired car we did the essential trip to Hypermarket and then went to Carcassone which was slightly disappointing as v busy and commercial. Husband also took day trip to Arles via train which he really enjoyed; maybe should have done this instead of Carcassone. Overall it is possible to do this holiday without car as campsite has everything out children enjoy (pool, beach, evening kids disco). Also if you don't mind paying more there are local shops to buy food from.for what we paid for car hire it was probably a false economy to think we saved on hypermarket shop. Also from what we saw the coast road between Agde and Sete is very busy and there are lots of traffic jams. Public transport is possible. It is cheap, quick but not very frequent so you have to plan in advance. Also closest bus stop to campsite is a good 10 min walk and this doesn't travel to many places. You are better to walk into Marseillan Plage and get bus by Tourist Info. We really liked campsite but slightly busier and livelier than we are used to. Think we were really lucky with our pitch to be in the right side of the site and not disrupted by too much noise which I know isn't everyone's experience. Can't fault Eurocamp and would book with them again. Really enjoyed this car free holiday and would like to travel by TGV again.

We spent a week here in July. We chose this particular site because we wanted a Cabane hut right on the beach. We were lucky to book a hut on the front line, the best accommodation on the site. The view out to the beach and sea was stunning, this was probably the only good thing about our time at this site. You don't really get any privacy, people are milling past all times of the day on the way to the beach or back and forth etc to other cabane huts.

We had spent the previous week at a Yelloh Village which was a 3 star site, the site at Marseillan Plage is a 4 star, but the Yelloh Village site knocked spots off the 4 star site. Not sure how it got a 4 star rating!

We also thought choosing a smaller site which Marseillan Plage would be better, but in fact, it all felt a bit squashed in and didn't have very many amenities.

To get into the site the road is very busy, we left on the Friday to avoid the inevitable queues to get out of the site on Saturday. When you come out of the site the road is typical of fast food restaurants and shops!

We found the staff, particularly Reception staff to be quite unfriendly, I can't remember anyone smiling, it doesn't cost anything to smile! In the Yelloh Village the previous week we had two towel and linen changes, when I went to Reception to ask if we would get a towel change, the Receptionist looked at me as though I was stupid and informed me that you only got towels changed if you were staying for two weeks, fair enough, but it could have been dealt with in a more friendly way.

The swimming pool was strange, all different shapes with walls in between which did not seem to flow.

When you arrive you have to leave a 200 euro deposit and the only way to get it back is to thoroughly clean the accommodation, i.e. clean the toilets, the shower, you name it everything. I agree with leaving it tidy but when you are paying 1800 euros for the week, didn't expect to have to spring clean it before we left!

Thank goodness for the lovely view, otherwise not sure we would have lasted the week.

Room Tip: A cabane with a sea view on the front line.

The camping & "own" units are on the beach side of the road, the trees provide good shade and the pitches good & plenty of grass & greenery. The caravans belonging to the holiday companies are on the other side of the road, have little shade and are cramped together and plenty of dust. So I think reviews will reflect which side of the road people stay.

The best thing about the site is the beach, which is excellent, 100% sand and very safe for kids.

The facilities around the site are good, although we didn't actually use them. The pool is very busy, be warned that shorts are not allowed, swimming trunks must be worn.

The Intermarche super market (with fuel) is easy to get to & provide anything you need cheaper than you can get on site.

Not really any negatives about the side. Probably the downsides are the very busy & dangerous road to get to the site & the immaturity of the 2nd phase of the site, which needs many more years to mature ideally better spacing.

Room Tip: Research where you will be located before you go & try & get some shade

Pleasant stay with Eurocamp at the Beach Garden campsite. Rather than hiring a car we got a €35 taxi from the airport to the campsite, and got around by foot. All the campsite facilities were clean and our accommodation was great value.

There are plenty of food options within walking distance of the site - just up the road there are plenty of small supermarkets, and boulangeries to get fresh bread and pastries. Walk a bit further down the strip and you will find a nice fruit and veg store, and at the end of this stretch you will find a good butchers. For eating out we recommend that you keep walking until you reach a busy strip, full of restaurants. We ate out several times, and were always satisfied - the food was lovely.

We weren't quite able to work out the bus routes for the area - perhaps because we were just out of high season. Instead we settled for the train. It comes at awkward times, toward montpellier at roughly: 7.00, 7.30 and 8.00 - and then nothing til 13.30 and then 17.30. In the other direction toward Beziers and Narbonne at around: 6.51, 13.42 and a few later ones at 18.00, 18.30 and 19.30. This made day trips a little difficult so we only did the one: Sete - which I thoroughly recommend!

Sete is known as the Venice of the Languedoc and is very scenic. We caught the 8am train and arrived 10 minutes later. On a Friday morning there is a farmers market that you can reach by following the bridge over the canal directly outside the front of the station. On the way back through to the 13.30 returning train, we picked up a bundle of groceries - including the most delicious cherries. They are absolutely beautiful in June! Climb Mont Saint Clair to a chapel and breathtaking views - a little tip, there is a 'short cut' to the panoramic view behind the Paul Vallery school: if you come across this road follow signs to the steps which will take you to the top (we went took the long route and it was exhausting). The whole town was charming.

On saturday morning there is also a market at Marseillan Plage - we stocked up on plenty of fruit and veg, and it was definitely worth the walk. You'll find it in the big car park at the end of the strip of restaurants and past the big oyster fountain. There's a decent butchers and fishmongers here too - we stocked up for a nice BBQ.

We spent the rest of the holiday between the clean pools and beautiful beach. If you turn right as you exit onto the beach and continue to walk you are likely to come across the centre for naturists in Europe. This wasn't a problem for us, although all the same we weren't warned and did have a bit of a shock!

Overall, a wonderful break - even without a car.

We have stayed on different parts of this site several times with Keycamp and also booked direct with Yelloh Village and enjoyed our stay, unfortunately it is no longer part of the Yellow Group. We booked with Thomson Al Fresco on our last holiday on a new part of the site called Beach Gardens, it sounds nice but is in fact scrubland with caravans on. Thomsons advertised the site as quiet but in fact it was the noisiest part of the site we have stayed on. Our stay was mid September and was noisy late in the evenings because of loud German children who were still on school holidays. Beach Gardens is also a very long way from the bars, restaurants and shops and a very long walk for families etc
