“Good hotel in nice location”
Reviewed May 29, 2014

We came here through RCI and found the hotel as well as the village very nice, so even the staff. I saw that some of the other reviewers had problems with the staff, but we had absolutely no complaints on anyone we met, from the receptionists to the cleaning ladies, all very efficient and civil.
Location is beautiful and we were lucky enough to have a really nice apartment with a large balcony facing the mountains. The furniture is new and in good condition, so even the beds. The kitchen is quite ok - but as we made our own meals and did not use the bistro or the restaurant - we thought some more plates, bowls and a better kitchen knife would have been nice to have. If we had been 4 people it would have been a problem, now we were only 2 so it worked reasonably for us.

We booked one week via RCI exchange. As it was in August and the hotel was full, we were allocated a studio room with a small balcony with mountain view. But the room was big and well appointed. Very comfortable beds. With a small charge, we can have wi-fi in the room which was very handy. The hotel is in a large ground and the food is nice in both the bistro and the restaurant. Good location to explore the area. A car is essential as the hotel is on a hill (unless you are very fit). There is still the old fashion TV in the room with no English channels available. Although the hotel has a daily program but there is not much entertainment at night. It is well worth to get a 'Salzburgland card' on the 1st day. Not a 'Joker card' as it is only for that region.

Hotel with view for mountains, is good location for hiking. Staff was very helpful. Rooms was old-fashioned, big and well appointed. Dinner was delicious. Big advantages were included drinks. On afternoon in bistro was available free cakes and coffee.

We booked via RCI exchange for a second time. We flew to Munich airport and had previously hired a car. This time we decided to take a train which was easy. S-Bahn S8 from airport to Munich Ost then train to Saalfelden via Worgl. You can take the Post Bus to Hinterthal or a taxi is about E25. There is a Billa store in Maria Alm on the way there or the much larger Interspa in Saalfelden itself.

Friendly staff we recognised from our last visit 2 years ago and another really nice apartment looking West to the Sonnenleiten ski lift and church.Lovely warm swimming pool, sauna and steam. Excellent kids' club with Dario with all sorts of activities, games and a disco at 7.00 p.m.
Plently for adults too with snooker and table tennis.

Delicious bistro with freshly made pizzas and a buffet restaurant if you don't want to self-cater.

The apartments are spotlessly clean and well equipped.

The reception will help you with anything you may need and really know the area very well.

It is the end of the ski season this week and we had the last of the snow and Ski Mayer School with a race for the children at the end of the week.

It is well worth a chair lift ride up to the Hochmeister restaurant and must be wonderful veiws and hiking in the summer, too.

There is a small shop for provisions in Hinterthal but the Post and Ski buses run hourly into Maria Alm and Saalfelden.

Tthere are lots of trips and not too far to Salzburg where we spent Easter sunday at the full mass with an orchestra and choir singing Haydn

Room Tip: All rooms are peaceful and really good food. We were offered a choice of rooms even though they were...

Beautiful location, not very crowded. When we arrived on 4 January , the village was very quiet. The hotel was fine , our bedroom was very nice big balcony! Try to rent a car is nice to see other places near Hinterthal.People at the reception are very friendly , the brekfast and dinner were nice.
In conclusion : The hotel it's good but not perfect!!

We booked this hotel via an RCI exchange and were perhaps unfortunate in that we were late on the list for room allocation. As a result, our apartment was on the top floor and could be best described as an attic room. The décor etc was fine, but as with most attic rooms the head room in places was rather limited. Unfortunately, the lowest head room was in the bedroom where, although neither my wife or I are particularly tall, we both bumped our heads on several painful occasions.

The facilities in the hotel are also rather limited, so you should only use the hotel as a base to explore the area, rather than a holiday resort in its own rights. We didn't eat in the main restaurant, but found the service and food options in the small bistro perfectly adequate.

The hotel boasts a "shop" in its literature, and in doing so would risk a legal suit for misinformation. I have seen better stocked "shops" in kiddies playrooms. There is no logic or imagination in the limited supply of goods they stock, e.g. whereas you could buy a tin of pasta sauce, you could not buy pasta to go with it. And you certainly couldn't buy basics such as bread, milk, cold meats etc etc. In short - the place is pointless and a waste of space.

Hinterthal s a quiet village in a glorious setting, but you really need a car if you are coming here; unless of course you are simply coming to enjoy the many good walks in the area.

Spent two weeks at the resort on an RCI exchange.
The first thing to say is that the village of Hinterthal is primarily, a ski resort and when we arrived on May19th the village was very closed up and quiet. It is c.10 K further up the valley from Maria Alm where we found excellent restaurants in the Hotels .Without a car we would have felt a bit isolated and stranded.
Marco Polo is a lovely resort in a spectacular setting, surrounded by jagged snow topped mountains. The front office staff of Julia and co were welcoming and warm, consistently friendly and patient. A poor design fault has located the indoor children,s play area, complete with ball pit, directly beside the reception area. The noise at times was deafening and must drive the girls at the desk ....and residents using the free wi fi in the foyer.. mad.Management are excellent and the place was immaculate and perfectly maintained
Our one bedroomed apt was a good size with a great balcony overlooking amazing scenery. The daily cleaning was excellent and very unobtrusive. The 44 euro per week fee was well justified.
Only at the end of our stay did we discover that, for an extra fee, we could have had Internet connection in the apt. Certainly this info should be clear in the room.
Marco Polo itself was very busy with an amazing number of under 5's and over 60's.!
I would love to return to Marco Polo and , with a car in Summer, recommend it highly.

Room Tip: Request a top floor overlooking the valley
