Just down the road from Crillon le Brave we ventured for dinner at this small local restaurant. What a delight. Chef/Owner type place. Wonderful food and a reasonable price. Don't miss it.

“A touch of style and culinary effort on the edge of yet another charming Provence village but main course missed the tar”

First be careful booking, we found a number on the website which turned out to be the restaurant next door. Yes it presents well, perched east side of small Chateau-endowed village of Le Barroux, keen to impress, and a well stocked (cooled) cellar which you can browse to make your choice, but the lamb main in the 38E menu did not work. The chop was too fatty, and whatever was in the long filo pastry parcel – gooey and gelatinous - was too far from tastey fresh meat to bother with. The gaspazcho amuse bouche and the aubergine and tomato starter were fine. Maybe other mains work better?

We were recommended to eat here by the Hotel Crillon le Brave and is was exceptional. The lobster menu was out of this world but all the other dishes were great too. Inventive cooking by a chef who really knows his metier

“One of the best dinners I have had in Provence.”

Gajulea serves sophisticated, spectacular cuisine. My husband, a friend, and I dined there on a busy Saturday night. The service was friendly and prompt. Immediately, the server brought delicious tapanade, toasts, and olives. We ordered the 38 euro three course option which also included an amuse bouche quenelle in a mushroom reduction sauce. The first courses we enjoyed were asparagus with puff pastry and mint sabayon, and a lightly smoked poached salmon paupiette with a beautiful piped topping of brebis and fresh herbs; both dishes were scrumptious.

For the main course I had terrine de recasse with shrimp and my husband ordered the lamb dish which was varied and complex: check out their menu on their web site for more particulars of the dish. For 5 euros supplimental we shared a selection of Claudine Vigier's cheese before the dessert course. Everything was superb.

The wines were excellent and reasonably priced: a white from le Domaine du Grand Jacquet, and a red reserve from Even Bakke's Clos de Trias. Customers choose their own bottles by entering and perusing the glassed in wine cellar just off the dining room, quite a unique experience. I highly recommend Gajulea!
