“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2014

On the piste, up the mountain and avoiding the crowds. Good sized rooms. Food and wine five star. Great location and lovely hotel. Could not fault it. Staff are really friendly and helpful and the facilities are everything you you want from a hotel of this type in this location but as up the mountain Hochsolden is probably not the best for young families or non skiers. I understand the hotel is being extended this year but am sure it wont lose its charm. Will be back one day...... perhaps in the summer too.

As a summary, this is the hotel for you if you want:
- nice hotel, nice staff
- ski-in-ski-out
- romantic spot bit farther away from town center with great views overlooking the whole valley
- good breakfast included
- good lunch included
- good dinner included
- preferably you have a car then you have easy access downtown (couple of km down the hill)

Make a booking, now =)

Now, for a little background. We booked this hotel because it popped up available suddenly and it looked very nice. We rented a car from Innsbruck airport and drove here. We found the hotel easily without any gps navigation:

"From Innsbruck airport, drive to the nearest highway and turn right towards Bergenz. After some thirty minute drive get off highway and drive towards Öztal. After some thirty minute drive straight you will reach Sölden and after passing the downtown there will be a right turn up the mountain to Hochsolden. Note a tight left turn junction not long after the mountain road begins. You will find the hotel sitting on top of the mountain."

We arrive at the hotel, very welcoming staff. Have to admint, we did not actually even know it is a "pension" (breakfast and dinner included) but we quickly learned that our price included actually also lunch (they call it 'skier's snack' but it's whole food...). The breakfast is a nice buffet with lots of variety even for vegetarian tastes. Their dinner is a sort of fine dining style experience so it is very romantic in a way and gives you a very nice holiday experience. No need to eat out (if you are vegetarian, remember to put it in writing in your dinner preference).

When you go skiing it's just outside, you wear your skis and ski down the hill. When you return from skiing you can ski down the slope back into the hotel. Perfect. The hotes has very nice saunas (beware: naked people there!!).

Overall, highly recommended. I would give a 4- (four minus) stars to the hotel, because they still have some things to improve:
- it would be nice to warn foreigners about the naked sauna in a brochures, there was no mention beore we was already in the sauna ;)
- next door hotel has a swimming pool, would be nice if the two hotels had some kind of agreement that it would be possible to visit their pool?
- at the hotel there is no gprs or 3g data reception, maybe discuss with the tele companies?
- on the hotel 2nd floor there is no wireless network, maybe arrange a few more base stations to make sure each floor has coverage in each room; I had to either sit in the stairway or lounge to access internet
- there is a noticeable problem with the ventilation of the hotel; when you enter 2nd floor hallway there is a funny smell and in your room there is even more smell if you did not leave window open. I beleive they need a ventilation specialist to investigate what's the problem. They are wasting a whole lot of energy if everybody keeps their windows open. I had significant difficulty for example sleeping because the air was very bad (smelly, humid) and we could not ofcourse keep the window open during sleep in the winter time. Very serious problem.
- seasonal brochure (in hotel room) mostly in german, english descriptions would be nice
- about the restaurant: lunch was only for meat-eaters, would be nice to have veggie option; dinner was served very nicely: plates are heated and 'wiped clean' in fine dining style but have oily wipemarks and fingerprints, minor detai easy to fix; increase coordination in the restaurant, often we left a half full water bottle previous night for the next day but it was lost, this happened couple of times and is bit annoying; another coordination thing is that more than one waiter will ask you same questions over and over, this is annoying and gives you the feeling that nobody is coordinating, they might ask you 3 times do you want coffee for breakfast, for example. Also the foods could have bit more flavour to them, bit more kick, even though they are nice already.
- in the sauna area, the infrared saunas did not work very well, maybe do something about it asap? Also the cold water bucket was broken, maybe fix that asap?

Room Tip: We asked for a quiet room with a good view. Was very nice. If you need wireless access from your roo...

Dear Martin,

thank you for your great effort to review our hotel. We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay with us.

We wrote down everything you mentioned and are working on the improvement of our service in the restaurant and the vegetarian offers (skiers snack and dinner).
After our large refurbishment in summer 2014, the ventilation will be improved, the sauna area separated into a naked area and the textile sauna for the whole family and the wi-fi connection will spread over the whole hotel. At the moment the internet connection in the rooms is mentioned to be a wired connection, wi-fi is working in the lobby and hotel bar.

We hope to welcome you back in our hotel after our renovation and wish you all the best.

Kind regards

Family Fender

The hotel is family run, paying attention to all details. The staff could find the exact right balance between high quality service and not disturbing and/or overdoing stuff.
The views from the dining rooms are magnificant supported by a lot of creativity by the chef. The staff went far and beyond assisting us addressing personal issues that had nothing to do with our stay.

Overall, it was a great skiing vacation and the hotel is highly recommended.

This is the best hotel I have stayed in in Austria, the Fender family knows what it means to give the best service and the cuisine is oustanding. They have an excellent wine selection, are very dog friendly and and a great location direct at the piste. I seldom have stayed at a hotel where I don't have anything to comment on, but here it is all positive!

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2013

The hotel was just reopening for the season the day our week long booking commenced (21 November). We had a "panorama" room. It was spacious, bright, great views of the slopes and spotless. Sebastian, the person assigned to cleaning our room each day did a perfect job. The evening meals each night became a real focus of our routine. The food was sublime. Really. Beautifully seasoned, perfectly portioned, cooked with preciseness. Presentation was spot on, this is a high end restaurant and to have this level of food included on a HB basis is astounding. We were very impressed and it came as a complete surprise. I expected big Austrian food and got beautifully balanced and executed elegant dining every night we stayed. Nothing was repeated in the 7 nights of our stay. The two head chefs have been working together for two years (which we learnt after meeting one of them as I wanted to know how they cooked their fennel) and they make a phenomenal team. The service of both food and wine was also impeccable. Hand made Ridal glassware and decanters every night. The wine list very comprehensive and at reasonable prices for the quality offered. Breakfast was good and again the service faultless. The "skiers snack" was a bit more than a snack with goulash, pasta, breads, strudels and various other things on offer so if you felt inclined you could have a big late lunch (but this would be a pity given the standards of the evening food to come). Frau and Herr Fender run this hotel with exacting standards. This is evident throughout the hotel in every way with complete attention to detail and thoroughness with staff training. Such thorough standards throughout a hotel are rare. The ski in ski out was not open in the first few days of our stay and transport was provided to the glacier area which is a glorious place to ski with views over the Austrian Alps, you feel like you're almost on top of the world. This hotel is a go back to place for us and early in the season, even though ski in ski out might not always be available, the slopes are so quiet it made for a heavenly ski vacation.

Room Tip: Panorama view deluxe rooms have gorgeous views and a practical layout.

Located high on the mountain at 2000 meters the hotel is in an isolated area. There is ski in and ski out which is great. You can take a shuttle in to Solden during the day for 2 euros but I would not recommend the town during the day as it's not very lively. The town comes to life at the end of the ski day as everyone downloads in to the village bars for apres ski. The hotel was very modern and well appointed. The staff is excellent. We were on a meal plan with breakfast, afternoon snack and dinner. All the meals were superb. There is a spa in the hotel complete with massage which again is top quality. The owner of this hotel takes great pride in his business and it shows. I was part of a large group and we had a great time.

We have been skiing all over Europe but have been here for the 3rd time this year which is actually a recommendation by itself.

Shoene Aussicht does honor it's name and most important of all we have been pampered by the kind and professional hotel staff to the highest extend. The hotel is getting better year over year because the owner has a good drive and vision over where he wants his hotel to grow into and makes improvements and upgrades step by step and that is working.
This is a boutique hotel where the guests are central to everything the staff does and that works for us and makes us feel at home. I have not experienced anything better at any winter sports holiday.

The rooms are not all similar with respect to decor and this year we ended up in a room with beautiful Panorama view having a more Austrian traditional decor. Rooms are not very spacious but also not tight and offer all sorts of comfort. There are newer decor rooms which are better to what we like but these do not offer the views. In all of them you will find good comfort levels though but there is something to choose from. Rooms are tidy and clean.

Breakfast is extended and of good quality. This hotel can be proud of the dinner quality served; it is just excellent with a good spread of creativity, modern all the way back to traditional Tirol preparation. All will pass over the days. It is just too much to mention but there are many options every day for Vegetarians, fish and meat lovers alike. The hotel owner takes pleasure in collecting and drinking wine is a recognized 'sommelier' and that is reflected in the choice of wines ranging from modern to old wine countries.

The hotel facilities, such as outside terrace, bar, sauna and storage for outdoor gear are just good for the purpose. I would certainly recommend the optional indoor parking facility because you just do not want to dig your card out of the snow at the end of a week of winter sports.
Of course a ski holiday is more than the hotel alone; but the ski area of Solden is really excellent and truly on the door step of the hotel; ski-in-ski-out; and of the best quality one could wish for and not too busy. I have not been here in the high season tough.

The location of the hotel is up the mountain and there is no disturbance of any Apres-ski place at all. They are mostly downtown Solden which is a 5Km drive down. That is a personal preference. My youngsters did use my car to get there.

All in all Schoene Aussicht has found the brilliant mix of staying boutique, having the nicest of staff with a good professional focus (guests) and offers top class food and wine. Prices are a bit steep but competitive in this region; but sometimes pricing does not matter too much pleased as we were with our stay again.

I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone; you will not be disappointed. Go here!
