After some cheap January sun, we booked a week at the Marino Hotel in Costa del Silencio.
The Hotel was good. Rooms airy and clean, very passable and cheap restaurant and all the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. There was entertainment in the restaurant every night but it was tasteful and finished around 10.30pm so reasonably quiet.
The hotel, is situated among lots of apartment blocks. Those close to the hotel were nice but there are some real horrors half a mile down the road. There is a good mini market in the hotel and another down the road but the local shopping centre is a real dive. It obviously used to be a haven for ex-pats and long stay tourists but is now very run-down and scruffy and with almost no Spanish influence at all. The only decent restaurant (apart from the hotel) that we found was a very good Italian 10 minutes walk down the road towards Las Gallatas.
Los Christianos is only 15 minutes away by (frequent) bus and there was very much more there.More
