We visited Il Poggio during the week of April 13 - 20 and had an outstanding experience. Il Poggio is located in the midst of the Tuscan countryside adjacent to the village of Celle and a few kilometers from San Casciano dei Bagni. Upon arrival, we upgraded to a two bedroom, two bath apartment since the one-bedroom unit was not really sufficient for four adults. Our apartment was clean and in good repair with basic country style furniture. The kitchen was sufficient for our needs with a small refrigerator, full stove and oven, seating for six, etc. The terrace was delightful and the table and chairs in good condition. If you are looking for glitz, glamour and nightlife, Il Poggio is not for you. If you are looking for a relaxing experience in the Tuscan hills, you will be very happy here. We did not take advantage of the equestrian center or spa facilities, but did travel extensively in the area using Il Poggio as our base.

The restaurant was outstanding, with local food items featured. (If you are a vegetarian, though, your choices are very limited.) I enjoyed the wild boar stew. At breakfast, there is a good selection of locally prepared cheeses, meats, pastries, bread, etc.

Many complaints-- individually, no big deal, but so many...
--Shabby. Overall the whole place is shabby, the paving stones need to be cleaned, things need painting. Our apartment shower had peeling paint, the clothes drying rack was rusty, the terrace was so unpleasant we didn't use it at all: the paving tiles were mildewed, the table was rusty and uninviting.
--The kitchen was small, fine, but there weren't even four spoons for cereal. I think there were four forks. There were no glasses bigger than small. No tea kettle. No dishwasher (okay, we could manage), but not only was there no washing machine in the apartment-- there was no washing machine in the entire resort-- we had to venture to a town half an hour away.
--the internet: this was a big problem, the internet was either spotty (2/3 of the time) or else down completely. For us, trying to keep a handle on work and family from thousands of miles away, this was a big problem.
--Dog poo in the yard sat for days before being dealt with. The toilet was exceptionally noisy (talking about refilling) and took forever to refill.
--Absurdly small shower stall. (Good hot water though). Small fridge with no freezer door, so no ice, and no freezing cold packs we needed for transporting medicine when we left.
--Inconvenient parking.. Not generally a big deal, save when it came to lugging luggage to and from the car.
All in all, very disappointing. We won't be back and we're recommending people give it a miss, at least at this point in time.

I soent 1 week at the residence Il Poggio in August 2012: excellent choice.
The resort is located in a small town at the top of the hill, from where you can have a fantastic view of the south part of Tuscany.
There is a swmming pool oudoor with all the facilities.n the resort you can buy typical local food, wine, oil and winegard.
And if you like horses...they have a training center.
All aorund is full of possibility to visit hystorical site (Cortona, Cetona, Montepulciano, San Quirico D'Orcia, Trasimeno lake ) spa center (Chianciano Terme) and to live the nature by walking a climbing through the hills.
The restaurant was excellent: we had dinner a couple of time (we were B&B). By the way I suggest to have dinner in the small towns nearby as well, to taste the Tuscany's flavors.
The staff was friendly and make you feeling at home.
The room was at the 1st floor, pacious and comfottable with old style furniture.
Room of improvement in the bathroom: no space where to put cosmertics, toothpaste and so on....but the batroom is quite big (and empty..), so they could improve.

Room Tip: If it is possible ask for a room on the opposite side of the outdoor restaurant if you want to go to...

Unlike other resorts in Tuscany, this is not your typical super-appointed and foreign-tourist-only place. Our apartment was comfortable, though, and efficient, and the working fire place, in this time of the year (December), with a steady supply of wood, was definitely a charming plus. Because of the season, we did not get to use any of the outdoor facilities, but we enjoyed the restaurant quite a lot: the cuisine is of course typical Tuscan and of a very high quality. Indeed, judging on the basis of the customers, the restaurant must have a reputation and clientele of its own. Two minor drawbacks: the wi-fi in the rooms is egregiously expensive (but is free in the common areas) and they apparently do not have king size mattresses and join two single mattresses.

We discovered Il Poggio through an RCI timeshare exchange. It was love at first sight! Our two bedroom unit was sparsely furnished in povera Tuscan style, with terra cotta floors, iron headboards and double beds, two adequate bathrooms, a small, but well-equipped kitchen, dining area and a small patio that overlooked the rolling hills. The town's bell tower rang in the distance, reminding us that we were in a very special place surrounded by medieval history. There is a charming little store onsite with an amazing array of estate wines, olive oil, farm raised prosciutto and hams plus cheeses and pastas in every shape with ragu sauces to die for! This agriturismo was truly amazing!!! There is even an equestrian center and farm located below the property for the horsey set! I practiced my best italiano with the staff and found them to be very cordial and accomodating. The morning cappuccino and pastries were the best in Toscana! The views from the property were breathtaking, with castles and villas dotting the hills. I can't wait to return to Il Poggio and to spend the days touring the immediate area and discovering the little hamlets and eateries.

Room Tip: In addition to the one and two bedroom apartments, there were suites above the main building that lo...

We weren't expecting total luxury but some of the furnishings and utensiles really do need updating. In saying that the staff were excellent and the swimming pools are really well appointed and in our experience were not busy, plenty of loungers. The views are indeed stunning. The billiard room is a nice place to escape the sun. The restaurant is good although I did find that the Maitre'd did try to point you in the way of the more expensive wines. You will need a car to explore the surrounding area and if you do you will not be disappointed. Unlike a previous reveiwer we did manage to find a couple of English speaking channels, not that we were there to watch TV...

Room Tip: Looking from reception ask for a room on the left as these will have better views.

When we checked in and began speaking english we were handled indifferently as compared to the Italians around us who were checking in and greeted warmly. The one bedroom apartment we were given was furnished with furniture that was old and outdated and showed its wear. There was only a shower which was very small. The kitchen was also small and the pots/pan were very well used. The tv was probably a 19 inch and english speaking stations were non-existant.
