My boyfriend and I just spent 2 fantastic evenings at Mt Engadine Lodge after a 5-day stay at Mt Assiniboine Provincial Park. We were dirty and tired after the hike out from Assiniboine with our packs but Mallory put us right at ease with the delicious afternoon tea and a few well-earned beers. We stayed in the Elk room and couldn't be more pleased, the bed was so comfortable and we loved the private deck.

Other reviews have sung the praises of the location and beauty of the lodge, all warranted. However, the highlight of our stay were our hosts Riley, Mallory and Sara. From the moment we arrived until we left we felt like we were visiting friends. All three are avid outdoorsmen and have great recommendations for nearby hikes that they themselves have done as well as great stories about the area which we really enjoyed. We looked forward to seeing them at meals, sharing our stories from the day and, of course, their constant pampering.

Meals were great, our favorite was Mallory's pork tenderloin with cherries and we were very pleased with the beer and wine selection. I wish Mallory would pack my lunch every day.

Stay at the lodge, you'll love it.

We highly recommend the lodge and will do so to all of our friends

8 of us stayed there in Mid-March for 3 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The views were spectacular. Went snowshoeing every day (they supply the snowshoes) . But the best part was the service and food. The staff went out of their way on several occassions to make sure the fire was light in the lounge in the afternoon, or evening and could not of been more friendly. The meals were all delicious. A wonderful place.

Mt Engadine Lodge is an unpretentious lodge hidden away in Kananaskis, Alberta. Since my last visit, the lodge has refreshed it's rooms with new paint. updated bathrooms, new beds and new bedding. The common areas in the lodge have new cushy sofas to lounge on while you gaze at the staggeringly beautiful scenery outside. There are two fireplaces in the common rooms that invite the guests to pull up a chair and share what they did during their day while warming by the crackling fire. The guests and staff often stand at the windows together while they watch the spectacular sunsets flicker across the mountains in blazing orange, reds and purples.

One of the remarkable facts about the lodge is that it runs off the grid. Everything consumed is trucked in or it comes from mother nature. The lodge has won several awards for sustainable ecotourism.

The staff is very knowledgeable about what there is to do in Kananaskis. You can ski (downhill and cross country), snowshoe, ice fish, dog sled and hike. The staff are all active outdoor enthusiasts themselves so ask them about the trails that are open and the difficulty of the hikes.

Last but not least, one of the very good reasons to stay at Mt Engadine Lodge is because of the food. Breakfasts start with a hot cereal with healthy, homemade toppings such as granola and yogurt. The next course always involves eggs, breakfast meat and a homemade bread or biscuits. The coffee is hot and delicious and there is a wide assortment of tea. Lunch is set out as a buffet for you to pack what you want while you are out enjoying the trails. The bread for your sandwich is homemade and the cookies they pack from their kitchen are rich, buttery and straight from the lodges ovens.

Afternoon tea is from 3-5 and is a meal until itself. While we were there we had the choice of three hot homemade soups, crackers and cheese and homemade dips with chips. Fresh fruit was piled on a platter along with flat breads and a dessert tray of brownies, poppy seed cake, chiffon cake and the lodge's famous homemade cookies. The dining room is often filled with hikers and skiiers who stop in during the afternoon open buffet to warm up and fill up on the lodge's delicious and filling fare before they head back to the trails.

Dinner was a real treat served family buffet style....pork tenderloin, salmon, trout, many fresh veggies, a starch and always a beautiful salad with a homemade dressing. Bread will always be fresh and homemade and dessert is not to be missed. Creme brulee, cakes and other sweet offerings will round out your meal along with the mug of herbal tea to help you drift off to sleep while watching the bright canopy of stars from your bed.

The wine list is nice and there are several offerings of local microbrewed beer

Take time to borrow a book from the library or sit and play a game of solitaire if you feel like staying in when the snow flies.

Binoculars are on a table for you to look for any wildlife that frequents by the lodge.

The atmosphere here invites the guests to mingle, share tables and talk about what they did that day on the trails. It isn't uncommon for just introduced guests to invite each other to join their group as they head out on a trail for the day.

The prices are a little more than what you would pay for a similar accommodations, however this unique wilderness retreat in a lodge built for outdoor enthusiasts who value pristine trails and excellent locally sourced food will make you think it is a beautiful way to treat yourself.

Room Tip: The cabins are separate from the lodge and are very quiet if you are looking for a little more solit...

With our family otherwise busy over Christmas this year my husband and I decided to do something special for ourselves for Christmas by booking into Mount Engedine Lodge. We were not disappointed. The time we spent there was relaxing, we met some very wonderful people and the food was magnificent. What a treat to have such a great Christmas dinner with no work on my part! We enjoyed the cross country skiing and the great hospitality of the owner and managers of the lodge. The torchlight walk after Christmas dinner was great!

Mt. Engadine Lodge is in one word perfect. The innkeepers and staff were very friendly and helped us plan our (snowshoe) hikes. We had a nice room (Owl) with two windows overlooking the meadows.
All the food (breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner) is delicious. It’s nice to eat together with the other guests.

We went with an alumni group and just loved this place. Staff was outstanding, food was delicious and we saw several moose up close every day. The mountains and view from the lodge are unbelievable. Great hiking trails nearby. The lodge is about 1 hour from Canmore and there is no cell service and limited internet at the lodge. We all seemed to survive:). The management is turning over shortly and we hope the new folks will be able to maintain the bar that the previous managewent group has set. We are interested in going back in the next two years so we will look forward to reading reviews.
