“Perfect addition to our trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2013

Found this lodge on trip advisor and it surpassed all of our expectations. If you are looking for a warm, friendly atmosphere where you can feel like you are in the middle of the wilderness, while still enjoying first rate accommodations, Mt Engadine Lodge is for you. We met individuals, couples and families from Europe, the US, Canada and Australia during our 4 day stay. The innkeepers and staff were incredible, looking to make our wilderness experience memorable. They provide a family style buffet breakfast and dinner where you sit together in the common dining area. We often lingered for hours after dinner with our new friends in the common areas of the main Lodge. Right after breakfast, a wonderful lunch station is set up to make your own brown bag lunch to take in your backpack on your daily hike. We took the 2 easiest hikes and the scenery was spectacular. Both were between 8- 9.5 km (4-5 miles) round trip and were done leisurely by my wife and I. Other guests took much longer and more challenging hikes, it just depends what you are up for. When you return to the Lodge in the afternoon, they have a traditional tea service in the main dining room - varied offerings and all good! We stayed in one of the cabins, very clean and beautiful views of the meadow and mountains outside, along with our own private deck. We couldn't say enough good things about our experience and would definitely recommend it; we hope to return some day with our children. Lastly, within the first 24 hours of our stay, we saw a moose in the meadow, a porcupine and coyote from the front windows and almost every evening, we saw the moose and her calf below the main deck, and then the bull moose showed up! We saw more wildlife from the Lodge then we encountered during our hikes, although grizzly bear were spotted up by Chester Lake about 1 hour before we reached the Summit!

Myself and 4 friends visited the lodge for afternoon tea after a hike in the area and it was wonderful. I had heard lots of good reviews about this place, but it is truly fantastic! They had a busy afternoon, but the service was incredible! The owners took time to tell us what each thing was and made us feel very welcome. The food was all home made, healthy and delicious. The atmosphere was relaxing, quaint and beautiful! It's an amazing location with a big wrap around deck out back. I hope to return for an overnight visit with my husband soon!

It's to believe that Calgary International Airport is only 120 kms or a 75-minute drive away when you're sipping a beverage on the sun-drenched deck of Engadine Lodge watching the wildlife activity in the idyllic meadows.

great FOOD. great SERVICE. great CLEANLINESS.

This place is completely worth it and unforgettable as a stop for an awesome meal (an abundant spread of savoury and sweet that is called "Tea" from 3-5 pm) is a perfect way to cap a day's exploring in the beautiful surrounding area.

Not only that, "The Engadine Sessions" and music being recorded up there as well as concerts adds a whole other dimension to what is already a stunning place to visit.

Room Tip: All the rooms are just awesome. I got to check many of them out and have to say you can't go wro...

It was soooo quiet!
We had a lovely two night stay at the Lodge, enjoying a comfy room, tranquil surroundings, friendly staff and fellow guests, great homecooked meals. Chris and Shari-Lynn have a gift of making everyone feel quite at home. It's a pricey retreat but it is a special spot and worth the splurge if you're able. If overnight accommodation is out of range for you, at least enjoy the trails in the area and reserve tea at the Lodge. The fact that the spot is open to the public for afternoon tea is a wonderful feature!

The lodge is located in the wilderness, making it a unique position for whoever want to experience true remote getaways like me.

The facilities, food as well as service are outstanding: The archetecture is swiss chalet style with two cozy sitting rooms and one big dining room facing mountains. It is good to see animals like moose walking across the field, when you are having breakfast. Food is tasty and plentiful. Service stands out best as I feel much welcomed by a warm friend.

I am fortunate to spend Canadian Thanksgiving. Truly unique and memorable!

The lodge provides mountain gears, sticks, bags and etc. So even if you are not fully equipped, it is still possible to do an easy-to-moderate day hiking around.

Hope Chris and Sherry can renew the contract, and I definitely look forward to coming back again.

In 2005, we chanced upon the location of this lodge while trying to find a day walk between Canmore and Waterton Lakes NP. There was female moose and her youngster on the meadow there and we resolved, if ever we returned to the Canadian Rockies, we would aim to stay at Mount Engadine. We were nearly put off by the requirement (unless one books at the last minute) to stay for two nights but, if anything, the area demands more than this, despite the expense. There are walks aplenty in uncrowded terrain, friendly staff, excellent accommodation, and superb 'all in' food to enjoy whatever the weather. So very different from the more frequented national parks nearby. The only snag is the unpaved road on which you take a bit a risk if your hire car forbids such driving. But 'go for it' - or even just take a walk in the area and then go for tea on a day trip from Canmore/Banff/Calgary. You won't be disappointed. And, by the way, the moose - male and female - still come out early morning and at supper time. Such a privilege to see them - and indeed to stay at this wonderful lodge.

Went hiking for the day, then went to the lodge for some sweets and coffee. The lodge and views are amazing. Its incredible to know that we have such places in our own back yard. The staff are incredible, making sure that they speak to every person that walks thru the door. We will be back several more times this year. Truly a wonderful place, thank you
