My husband and I just celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary and the overall experience with the hotel was good. I would not say perfect because i have experienced perfection somewhere else. Our villa was great and the privacy that it offers is amazing but there are some issues that we were not happy about. Let me start with the food. Not a variety of cuisine is offered and being from the middle east it would be great to have some middle eastern or indian cuisine available since we do not eat Asian food and other international cuisine is limited to few dishes. We ended up eating the same food through out our stay!!
Another issue i would like to point at is the service. Honestly, for a 5 star hotel it should be way better that what we experienced. It took the villa dining 2 hours to pick up our left over food and dishes and three calls from us...which could have been done with cleaning the room. Our left over breakfast was still in our room when we came back later in the day and I had to call 3 times and wait 2 hours for it to be picked up! In our 3rd day at Seychelles we decided to take a 5 hour tour in Mahe which was great. We came back to the hotel after 4 and stayed at the ocean bar for another hour...by the time we returned to our villa they were just starting to clean it...at 5pm!!! We were out all day and had the 'clean the room' tag on our villa...it took them another hour and we were already tired!

The hotel villas and privacy are amazing, but service and food were something i was not pleased with.

Dear Maryam M

Thank you for having taken the time to share your comments here on TripAdvisor. I have gone through your review with much interest.

I am glad to learn that you have had an overall good experience with our resort.

It is however with much concern and regret that I have taken note of your disappointment with our service delivery on a few occasions. Kindly allow me to extend my sincere apologies for the inconveniences caused. Namely I am very sorry for the shortfalls in our housekeeping and villa dining departments. We shall spare no effort to make adjustments and improvements in those areas.

Once again, thank you very much for your time and consideration and for providing me with your invaluable feedback.

Maryam M, we would love to have the opportunity to serve you again and provide you with and overall much better experience when you may return to the Seychelles.

In the meantime I would like to wish you a good day and all the best.

Kind regards

Serge Ditesheim

We recently celebrated our 25 wedding anniversary at the Banyan Tree in SW Mahe. Our villa 'on the rocks' had the most superb view and almost total privacy which made our experience unforgettable. Yes, there were minor gripes (eg some of the facilities are looking a little tired), but this was more than compensated by a lovely staff and the perfect location.

Having just returned from 7 nights we are itching to return. The location of the Banyan Tree is absolutely amazing and hard to beat if your looking for a beach holiday. we were initially booked into a hill top villa, but these villas have drawbacks. Although the interior was really good the exterior was not so good. Ours (208) was quite overgrown so we only had the sun on our private pool for just over 1.5 hours a day and when we went to the beach on our first day we found that only the beach villas had sun beds allocated on the beach and as these were all full we were told by the pool/beach staff that there were no sun beds available. After making a fuss at reception they did eventually move some beds from the pool onto the beach for us...OK but not great as the way down to the beach from the pool was over rocks and difficult to access. The pool area was lovely with 2 superb pools, but unfortunately the constant beat of the loud music is not to everyone's taste and after spending 1 hour there on our first afternoon we did not return.

After more problems with sun beds on the beach on our second day we asked if we could be moved into a beach side villa as this is where we wanted to be. The reception staff were great and a couple of days later when a villa became available they moved us into the best accommodation we have stayed in in the Seychelles. These villas are fantastic so much better than our hillside villa and well worth the extra cost.

The staff at the hotel, with the exception of the pool area were exemplary and a credit to the management. Contrary to what I have experienced before in the Seychelles they were extremely attentive and accommodating and looked to be enjoying their work. We were on a half bard tariff which was great as the food was expensive as we expected in a hotel of this nature and location, but the great thing was we were not set a limit on spend and we could have anything from the full menu at any of the 3 restaurants. The food was great, always well prepared and presented and there was a good choice. The was not a lot of evening entertainment, but what they provided was very professional and enjoyable. We particularly enjoyed the singer with his guitar and mouth organ who would do requests.

We both did use the Spa and our treatments were very good, although the gym was unmanned and the equipment a little dated, but hey we don't go on holiday for the gym. The rest and relaxation was fantastic.

To sum up, overall we had a lovely holiday. The beach is simply wonderful with amazing white sand and deep turquoise sea. The hotel is well run and in a stunning location. The food is delicious. But request a beach side villa if you want to get the best from this great hotel.

Room Tip: Private beach villa every time.

The whole setting is spectacular. The villas have an own patio and infinity pool with a gorgeous view and lot of privacy. The main hotel building is stylish and overlooks a wonderful beach. The food is very good but extremely expensive. The overall impression is a bit inconsistent: Some features are quite pretentious (e.g. water bottles come in fabric pouches) but there is a certain lack of attention to basic features that matter (e.g. no constant shower temperature; smell in the room; torn sun beds on the beach). For a five star hotel, I would expect a more consistent quality approach. I enjoyed my stay, but I would not come here again.

We stayed for 5 days at Banyan Tree. Our pool villa on the rocks was everything we could have hoped for. The are outside is amazing...like having your very own yard. It includes a patio, eating area, pool and hot tub. Perfectly private..yet completely open to the Indian Ocean and the sound of the surf pounding on the rocks. The king size bed was comfortable and the villa included a lounge and desk. Bathrooms were large with ample closet space and 2 sinks. Lovely to shower with that gorgeous view!
The staff were friendly and eager to please. The beach was over a kilometer long and virtually empty! Snorkel equipment is available.
One negative and it is a big one for me is food and beverage. Saffron is their Thai restaurant and it was close to the worst Thai food I have had. Breakfast was fine...buffet style with al a carte available. Chez Lamar had theme night while were were there...Creole buffet one night and Champs and sushi another. Wine is very expensive as is the food. Wouldnt mind so much if the quality was there.
The location and villas make this place spectacular, but would love to see improvements in food and beverage before we go back.

Room Tip: Beach Villas are directly on the beach...hill top villas offer amazing views but are far away from amenities. Pool villas on the rocks was our favorite
