Coco de Mer - Black Parrot Suites

it has taken us a while to write this review, however this awesome hotel and its kind and gentle hospitality will remain in our memories forever.
From the generous welcome - with refreshing cold towels, a nice thirst quencher of a tall drink and warm and friendly smiles of welcome, to a heavy hearted departure, as we did not want to leave this place. The warm hospitality and vibrance of the staff, looking after your every whim, taking care of your daily needs - the cleanliness of our accommodation and each perfect day we spent here, was perfect indeed. Walking into our spacious room, we were amazed to find a beautiful oval bath in the corner of our room, perfect to wash away the heat of the day, the terrace we sat out on - with the view of the sea - was so calming and peaceful. We had hammocks strung on the terrace between the palm trees right in front of our room which was awesome to lie in and read or sleep - directly under the swaying palms that shielded you from the sun. the comfort of the rooms were amazing - much to our expectation and surprise - as we did not expect to have such a large, airy well furnished and appointed room with all the amenities at ones fingertip. the colours of the decoration and style was beautiful in this split level room - all in various shades of blue and blending so nicely together gave us the impression that this was so well thought out - for the comfort of the guests. The simplicity and style matching one another to perfection made our accommodation feel like home.
We were booked on a half board basis which included breakfast and dinner. Dinner was served in their main restaurant every evening and what was so special about this - is that it was varied everyday - with different meals and themes. Most of all, the food was delicious and the kitchen team did their very best to accommodate to our tastes - which if I may add is not easy - as we are fussy diners. The friendliness of the entire team - from Philip, one of the managers - to the big guy Owen at the reception as well as well as lovely Edwina on the bar, so friendly and helpful all the time, really polite and accommodating. Nothing was an effort for them to arrange for us. Our only regret is that we did not stay here longer. The peace and nature of the resort is overwhelming and you really need to pinch yourself to make sure it is real. The evenings are dark and balmy - creating a mood of relaxation and freedom, away from the big city one really feels at peace. The gardens are beautifully lit at night.... in a very subtle Iight making it so romantic.
I believe they will be adding a spa to this hotel in the future and we would certainly like to travel back here one day to experience that. My ultimate favorite was lying snuggled up on a cosy day bed on the Fishermans Jetty - which lies over the ocean, reading a book or just gazing out to sea.
Very conveniently our representative was based at the hotel and she arranged trips to other islands by boat and we even visited La Digue on our own, which the hotel reception booked for us. It was so easy. The hotel also offers a free shuttle bus service to one of the most beautiful beaches on Praslin called Anse Lazio - which is awesome and a must to visit.
This hotel is a must to stay in if you are travelling to Praslin, it is so calm, peaceful and friendly that it really makes you want to come back. Even though we have left a while ago, as well as visited other islands and hotels in the Seychelles, the Coco de mer, by far has captured our hearts and the memory of our stay here we have taken with us forever. I have a very strong feeling that we will return here again some day.

We visited Coco de Mer in May 2011. Upon arrival we were greated with an exotic cocktail and Richie ( I am not sure about his position) explained everything to us. Then we checked in to out lovely room. It was clean and comfortable. We had a little balcony too with ocean view. (But I believe all the rooms have ocean view.) The property itself is very nice and we loved to sit on the little beach left from the Fisherman's Wharf and also to be on the Fisherman's Wharf and just look away into the nothing. It's really dark out there, something a city person never sees. The hotel has a small gym, a library as well. Didn't have time for that, but I peeked inside and it seemed they have a big selection of book on different languages (english, german, russian and french at least). They have some hammocks as well and you can take a walk to another beach. Also the hillside is so beautiful. The hotel itself is not so far away from the jetty, 10 minutes and 15 euros usually. The airport is also not too far away. Breakfast is good enough, I loved their coconut spread. Dinner is also good, although the selection is not very big. Staff were all very kind, especially the night receptionist guy, unfortunately I don't know his name. Pool is good, coco de mer shaped, bar serves some basic food, which is also delicious. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and I would come again!

Room Tip: If you stay longer, rent a car (50 euros a day)!

Me&my wife celebrated our honeymoon in coco de mer from 1 to 5 May'11, and what a jaw-dropping experience it was! Much better than the photos! We had a warm welcome with cocktails and a manager personally informing us about the to-do's.
Dinner always was a fantastic experience, with tasty food, friendly chefs, friendly waiterz and local entertainment. One night in the restaurant, my wife&I and a couple of other people even started dancing on a few of the local guitarist's tunes!
The swimmingpool was always the right temperature, and chilling in the hammocks between palmtrees was dreamy. The private beach on the put-put's side is also nice!
We took a "2-island tour" through Creole travel at the hotel, $226 (for both), and was well worth it, as our friendly, what-a-character tourguide, entertained us with learning the local langauge and intresting facts of our visits. La dique's beach was unbelievable (and also the BIIIIIG tortoises). We would also recommend taking your own tour by using the local bus service -its cheap.
Seychelles is VERY humid, so hydrating drinks was a life saver. Drinks at the hotel is expensive, make sure you budget enough! A coke= +- $5. . . A tip: Buy your water in local shops. Cost half the price of the hotel's.
We would strongly recommend coco de mer for honeymooners, especially a relaxed one. What a way to start a marriage!

Stayed for two weeks in March. Wonderful time with the staff absolutely excellent. It would be invidious to single any one out as they were all first class. It has a laid back approach but coupled with a very attentive but not intrusive service. We stayed at the Black Parrot suites, room 505 which had a lovely view out across the ocean. It was very discrete with a small pool which was never busy, lovely large and soft loungers and bar service. Food in restaurant was wonderful with plenty of variety, again with friendly and helpful chefs and waiters/waitresses. Private beach was good too with water relatively clear and very inviting (warm!). Beware Joseph's two hour walk up and down the hill. Well worth it once you get to the top but you must be fit - it nearly killed me! Saw three black parrots though, so we were lucky. Take the free hotel bus to Anzio Lazio Beach which runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday. No need to take lunch as the bus picks you back up around 1.00pm. Go to La Digue for the day, hire a bike (10 euros at the quayside but walk down the road for five minutes and you'll get one for 5 euros) and explore. You'll come across a couple of beaches which are truly breathtaking. Back to the hotel - we tried hard to find a fault but couldn't so if you're thinking of visiting, choose Coco de Mer (Black Parrot Suites if you can stretch it a little) and enjoy a wonderful holiday. Main hotel will be closed for 6 weeks around June so look out for that.

We spent our honeymoon in Seychelles, and stayed at Coco de Mer for 3 days. We also stayed at the Labriz Silhouette for other 5 days. This review is about Coco de Mer.

The hotel is a 4 star hotel and is located very well on the Praslin island. It has 2 beaches that the guests can use. We stayed in the standard room, which had a great view of the ocean, but not a direct access to the beach. The room was large, complete with with sofas and a nice bathroom.

The hotel has an upscale feeling to it, but seems like it is careful about not being extravagant. There weren't too many facilities (no internet, no moisturizers, no iron etc.) when compared to a 5-star hotel, espcially one like Labriz, but if you want to have a quite, relaxing time, this is a good property to be at.

The staff is quiet and non-intrusive, though a little bit laid back we thought. For our special requests for vegetarian food, we thought they were a bit slow in understanding our needs (no language problem). The maid who was taking care of our room was definitely cheerful and did a good job, especially with the romantic decoration on one of the nights.

The hotel has a swimming pool and a couple of restaurants. The breakfast was lavish with a plenty of choice. The a-la carte menu was also potent but the chef agreed to prepare dishes especially for us a couple of times, which was great!

The hotel has a point called the Fisherman's Wharf, which is a jetty a little out into the ocean. We spent hours lazing around here, thanks to the comfortable chairs and the sounds of the surrounding ocean. We also went on one of the treks organized by the hotel and got to see Coco de Mer plants and Black Parrots for real. We suggest finding out the schedule of such activities from the hotel when you plan to stay there.

Overall, we thought the hotel had laid-back feeling to it, even the Black Parrot Suites part of the property. Maybe we thought so because most of the guests were above our age group and the staff looked too relaxed sometimes. :)

While in Praslin, we strongly suggest hiring a local car and going around to see places, rather than being a part of an organized trip. The cost comes out to be about the same as an organized trip for two people, but you get immense flexibility in staying back at the points of your interest (say Anse Lazio) or just going around exploring the island! We had much more fun that way, as we could enjoy the many road side joints and have local drinks, stop at any beach we liked, clicked photographs at whichever point we liked and left early when one of the places didn't interest us that much. Renting a car is absolutely the way to go, if you ask us, in Praslin.

The Coco the Mer is in the "just allright" category, the
first impression is a bit depressing it looks in need of some cosmetic work, particularly around the pool.
On the other hand the staff is so nice, helpful and friendly that in a couple of days you see things on a different perspective.
Just sit at the "mango" bar built around an enormous 150 years old mango tree ... with luck you'll hear a loud bang on top of you ... then the little friendly local old girl in charge of the bar, might (if she likes you...) collect the ma
ngo from the floor and prepare it for you, nice and fresh... quite funny!!
We found the "A la carte restaurant" by the pool rather good... it also saves you wearing long trousers as requested for the buffet restaurant!

We were told that renovation work is scheduled for the coming June.

The hotel offers excellent standards of care and service with particular emphasis on the quality of its food. The staff are friendly and are always on hand to give that little extra which cumulatively makes this hotel outstanding.
The island setting with its azure blue, warm waters, palm fringed white beach and mostly cloudless sky make this the perfect place to get away from the snows of a British winter.
The least liked aspect was the fact that only one traditional key is given per room. This could make room access trying particularly if you are accompanied by peripatetic children! However, as on our penultimate night our room was burgled as we slept in it and though the room was locked, 'security' was something we latterly came to appreciate.
