“Relaxation in Paradise”
Reviewed April 21, 2014 via mobile

The reviews here are rather off-putting, and based on our experience now somewhat outdated. This hotel is not frequented by many English - we were the only ones there, being surrounded by French, Germans and Italians. That's not a problem because all the staff speak English, but for a more representative view of the hotel look at ratings on the French Tripadvisor website.
We had booked a package so took what was given but our experience was much enhanced by having a Superior room (the standard rooms whilst having a verandah look small and dark) and half board package. Half board is necessary as options to eat elsewhere are limited by the hotel's location.
This is a very relaxing hotel - the isolation (one can only reach the hotel by boat from the main ferry jetty in Praslin) adds to the feeling of being in paradise and the views from the hotel are extremely scenic. Breakfast and dinner are both buffets with good selection and quality. Staff are pleasant if somewhat reserved in providing proactive service - the exception being the extremely attentive, hard-working and friendly barman Anoura (?). Beach is great too.
All in all this is a good value hotel in a great location when compared with other hotel locations we saw on trips round the island.
Hint: Wi-if only available in public areas and a little slow particularly in evening when iPads and iPhones are prominent.

First of all be aware that this hotel is in Praslin but to arrive there is only by boat. The hotel has a boat that goes to and come back from the jetty area each 1 hour and the last time is 18:15h, after this you have the option only at 23h. So you get totally dependent of this boat if you want to go to another beaches. For us was not a problem. In this case we had dinner all days in the hotel. The buffet was good and varied but a little bit expensive (500 rupees). The menu for the lunch was poor, they had few options per day and sandwiches. We always prefered to have lunch out of the hotel. I suggest to buy snacks, drinks and water in the city because in the hotel it was expensive.
The staff in the reception was friendly, specially Katia. In the restaurant all the staff was extremally friendly, specially two waiters from Sri Lanka and a young lady from India.
In the first day we did a snorkelling with the italian lady that receive us in the hotel, they rent the material for snorkelling. After the introduction to the snorkelling in the area we did it by ourselves every day and for me was the best snorkelling in Seychelles. There are a lot of fishes, we saw an array, morei and different fishes. They have kaiaks to use for free. The beach for me was the best thing in the hotel, is a gorgeous beach only for the guests.
The wrost thing was the room cleanliness, the room was small and very dark, everything is made of dark wood and although they had remodeled the room continue old, old locks, old cabinets and old fridge.
There's no tv in the room, it was boring at night. The plates and cups was dirty in the room and the spoon that we used with butter wasn't cleaned properly, was oily and looked like that it was cleaned with a piece of paper.
Every day at night there was many cocoroachs running in the garden and one day i found one inside of the toilet, it was disgusting.
The bathroom was not very well cleaned, there was rest of hair in the cable of hairdry, the exaustor was dirty with dust. The soap was never reset, even being requested by me. The shower cabine was extremally small, not very confortable. The cloth that covered the bad (like a mosquito net) had small holes.
In the restaurant used to have pigeons in the morning trying to get some food in the tabels. The juice machine was clogged and looked like old, pieces of something were falling info the glass, so i gave up to have that juice. One day my husband saw a rat running on the floor at night.
One day before leave the hotel my husband asked if we could leave the bedroom at 12h because the checkout was 10h and they said that was ok but in the next day they wanted to charge 2 extra hours in the room, as we complained they didn't charge.
The pool is very nice, the water is salty. There are 3 giant turtlles.
If you want to do scuba diving they recommend a guy, close to the jetty, we went there but i didn't feltro confident, só we did with Octopus divers, it was very clean and profissional, its in Cote D' Or.
On christmas dinner was nice, they had a nice buffet of dinner, they had a santa claus and gave chocolate for kids, the christmas song was played for the rest of the days.
Considerando the beach, privacy and staff this hotel was good, not a 4 starts but good. They really need to improve the management to look for cleaning and maintenance.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with see view.

The sea in front of the resort is outstanding! Snorkeling is very good: sea turtles, batfish, surgeon fish, trumpet fish, parrot fish, etc. I loved the whole atmosphere: beautiful gardens, nice pool, great food, giant tortoise, lot of birds. They offer a wide range of excursions.
Things you probably won't like: the beach will disappear with high tide, waiters at pool bar are not really quick (15 min for an ice tea), rooms are pretty dark.

Our entire stay at Emerald Cove was abysmal from start to finish. We emailed the hotel three times regarding a shuttle service prior to arriving and we never received any response. We had to rely on a taxi man at the ferry port to direct us on what we needed to do to get to the hotel. On arrival, we were greeted by an Italian lady and after a long winded introduction (which was unwelcome after such a long journey) told us we should pay in full straight away. This is the first time we have ever been asked to pay in full (out of hundreds of hotels worldwide) before ever setting foot in our room. This set the tone for the entire visit as the hotel seemed to pride themselves on finding new and innovative ways to extract money from their unfortunate guests. We were shocked at the dismal, dark and dank room we were shown to, I'd feel guilty leaving animals there not to mind expecting people to holiday in them. The bed linen was old and beyond damp to wet due to the humidity, lighting was non existent, aircon was unbelievably noisy which made it hard to sleep if turned on, mosquito net was torn and stained, we were frequently visited by lizards due to vents not properly closing in numerous locations. One bottle of water to share was the only thing we received complimentary for the whole stay. On one occasion, i needed to print a work document urgently but was informed that there was a charge per sheet which in my opinion is laughable that a hotel would dream of charging for something like this. The hotel treated each guest like a criminal expecting huge deposits for everything from beach towels to adapters. When we asked if reception could organise a ferry for us, we were informed that 'no, they don't do bookings' and handed the ferry timetable. The restaurant/bar area was infested with pigeons and small birds climbing all over tables, cutlery and plates. This is not just one or two but hundreds of birds aggressively looking for food. On one occasion, we were shown to a table that had excrement on it that was never bothered to be cleaned off. As there was no where else to eat while at this isolated hotel, the price of food was extortionate for what was on offer. If wifi is important to you, please don't bother staying at this hotel. There was no TV in any of the rooms but there was a TV room available which is a throwback from the 1960's.

This is a nice hotel for honeymooners but not as much for more practical tourists, since it's quite expensive and there's no road access.
The facilities are nice and well-kept with the sole inconvenience of lack of light because of the venetian blinds. The huts facing the ocean are the nicest. The bathrooms are quite modern, with shower cabins and all amenities (shampoo, shower gel, conditioner and lotion).
There are three giant turtles just wondering around the hotel's gardens. They try to hide under small bushes but don't realize one can spot their big shells from a distance.
The service could be improved. In several occasions we had the feeling that staff in the restaurant couldn't care less about us and our needs. On the contrary we were always impeccably treated at the reception desk and one of the staff here even had the kind gesture of holding the shuttle boat at the pier for us to be able to return to the hotel from the jetty.
There's a lot of Italian tourists, since the owners are Italian. The furniture, the appliances and even yogurts are imported from Italy!
Breakfast is buffet style and very continental (oat meal, crepes, sandwich loaf, yogurts ). Apart from the local fruits, everything else feels too much international or even just Italian.
They serve complementary coffee/tea and cakes between 5 and 6pm. One is also entitled to a complementary bottle of water, which we never got.
The shuttle boat respects the schedule but it's not enough. One is obliged to have dinner at the hotel, since the last boat is at 23h15 but upon request. The last regular boat is at 18h15.
Transfer from the airport costs 30EUR. A taxi will cost half that price.

Room Tip: The huts facing the ocean are the nicest
