“OK for What It Is”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2012

Though the proprietor was friendly and the food adequate, this is a tea shop/lunch spot and nothing more. In a town as charming as Ansouis, we'd hoped it might be a standout but we were disappointed. We had a Croque Monsieur and a wedge of quiche, each presented with a small green salad, and two glasses of local wine, for 26 euro. Be forewarned that no credit cards are accepted, only cash.

“A highlight of our idyllic week in Provence”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2011

We stayed in Ansouis for six days and ate lunch at Les Moissines twice. If only we had discovered this charming restaurant earlier in the week! The menu is simple and traditional: quiches, omelettes, gratins and croque monsieur, served with fresh salad and ripe fruit. Everything was beautifully plated and absolutely delicious! We were completely bowled over by the moelleux au chocolat, with lavender ice cream and strawberry compote on the side -- FABULOUS!! My mouth waters, just thinking about the sheer perfection of that dessert. Mr. Jean-Jacques was our friendly host/server (whose English is quite good), and his wife Karin is the brilliant chef. The two-level patio has gorgeous views of the valley. My picky teen and tween would have happily eaten at Les Moissines every day. If you are anywhere near Ansouis, do not miss Les Moissines!

“A delightful little find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2011

Ansouis is a small, pretty village in the South Luberon. It has winding, flower filled streets and a castle offering spectacular views over the Durance valley.

It was a bonus to find Les Moissines on the way up to the top of the village. The restaurant only opens from 11 until 5 serving drinks and especially delightful lunches. The terrace has lovely views - you can only eat outside. This is not fast food. Meals are prepared to order but enjoy the experience. You won't be disappointed. Food is locally sourced and seasonal. The plat du jour is always popular.

We went twice. Once it was very busy and we spent two hours lazing in the sun. The next time it was quiet. Whatever you do, leave room for a dessert - scrumptious!
