“Beautiful place, excellent staff & hotel, well organised & good food.”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

After booking this hotel through an agent I was slightly worried about some of the negative reviews I'd read on here about the unfriendly staff and run down rooms. They couldn't have been more wrong!

My husband and I spend two nights in Panama City and joined Gamboa tours for the 1/2 day Canal Tour and the full day Emberra Indian Village visit, then we transferred to Gamboa Resort Hotel for 3 nights where we did Kayaking, the ariel tram and relaxed at the resort.

The guides and staff at the hotel were excellent and the planning of the excursions was brilliant, the hotel even sent two cars the day we transferred hotels so we could maximise our time on the trip and our luggage was waiting at the next hotel.

The place must have been refurbished since some of the previous reviews, everything was clean and modern and the views from the balcony's are all spectacular with views over the river and the banks where a herd of wild Capybara were always grazing.

The hotel has a bar, pool bar and restaurant, you can get the buffet or a la carte menu or even room service and we found all the food to be good.

I'd certainly recommend anyone to stay here and do as many of the trips as you can fit it

Panama has so much to offer from modern city, beautiful historic old town, rain forest, the wonders of the canal - we had such a great time!

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are river facing with balcony's and hammocks - the building is designed so...

The Gamboa is located in the middle of the rain forest and is simply spectacular. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The humidity is extreme and the dehumidifier in the room never shut off. There is small patio overlooking the jungle and you can't get enough of the views. The hotel is a little thread bare and needs some TLC but the location and the views are worth ii. The staff was English challenged but they did try to communicate. We have been on many trips abroad and usually hotel staff are normally bilingual. However in Panama that is not the usual practice This is really a magnificent resort

This resort is everything all reviews state here on TripAdvisor read every last one of them. Over all this resort is breathtaking upon arrival and it gets a five star rating for that.

I am giving my review an average rating as we had complications upon check in. There are many reviews that state do no get a room on a lower level, well they appear to be accurate. We were given a room that had a strong smell of mildew and actually had mold spores growing on the wall. I was told there was no other room that I could be moved into unless I would pay an extra $180US to upgrade. I was very disappointed, even more so when it took roughly six hours to get the walls all wiped down. We were even trying to get the bar staff to give us some of their cleaning supplies so we could go and wipe everything down ourselves as the location of the room was satisfactory. This issue with the room was no more than say, leaking plumbing at your lazy friends cottage. Very easy to remedy with some cleaning chemicals. Two other small issues not worth wasting time on throughout the rest of the week. In particular, our picture tube television was replaced the second day with a modern flat screen television that "did not work". We were not in Panama to watch TV so I only tweeted this to @GamboaResortPma. I am sure they would have taken care of this issue as well, bit I did not waste anymore time on it.

Getting past these issues with the room, everything about this place was fascinating and exciting. We were a group of two couples staying in separate rooms. We had an all inclusive package booked thru Sunwing. This package was very beneficial as the price of drinks ranged from $4-$8US, along with a meal package included. Three meals a day and two nights dinner in the Chagres River View. All food and drink served at this resort was above average in my opinion for being situated in a rain forest.

I would recommend this resort to anyone wondering whether they should go or not.

The Gamboa rainforest retreat, is Located
in Gamboa Panama on the Chagres River, a 30 minute drive from Panama City. The resort has a tour desk to book a canal boat ride to see monkeys , sloth, Iguanas. You can also take the hike behind the hotel to see the monkeys in the rainforest. They also have a gondola ride to view the Toucans & most beautiful birds of Panama. The hotel has a most spectacular view over the pool area towards the Chagres River. The area also has an orchid garden & village of Embera Indians. There are 2 restaurants, one serves international cuisine, also a bar which overlooks the river. We always visit this hotel on our Panama adventures. The rooms feature a balcony complete with a Beautiful hammock to view the rainforest, a flat screen tv, & marble bathrooms with necessities. There is also a gift shop on the premisses & a sensory spa.

Room Tip: Ask for the river view, it is truly the best.

I stayed here one night as part of an organized tour. The arrangements were made by the tour company. I enjoyed the stay. The staff was pleasant, the rooms spacious, clean and comfortable. The scenery was fantastic. Several mini-tours from the hotel were part of my overall tour, but several were optional. I felt that the prices for the optional tours were on the high side, as were the charges for use of the business center. The food was OK, though in my opinion not excellent. The facility is quite isolated, therefore, you should be sure to have available transportation. I wouldn't hesitate to return here again.

I want to start off by saying this is the first time I've felt compelled to write a hotel review, but I just think that Gamboa Resort online presents itself as far more elegant and high-end than it is. My boyfriend and I were booked in for 3 nights here. The first night was okay, yes views are AMAZING!!! The food was very so-so and everything dies out at about 9 pm with only reception on 3 TV channels and no movies to watch. The hotel pool and pool bar is very run down and in desperate need of a renovation. just didn't see the value in the place. We heard there was a golf course a few miles away at a newly built Radisson and we were anxious to check it out. The staff was very unhelpful as we tried to call a taxi to get check out this course 10 minutes away and they told us it's be close to $50 US charge, and then told us to take the public bus instead which was only 50 cents. The public transporatation was very sketchy but wemanaged to make it to the Radissson where not only did they beat Gamboa's price, they have a BRAND NEW MODERN BEAUTIFUL hotel set amongst the rolling hills in the rain forest. Their shuttle service even drove us back to Gamboa so we could pack our stuff and go back to the Radisson. If you golf you will be floored by the Radisson golf course as well- it was stunning. Stay at the Radisson Summit- do not be fooled by the Gamboa Resort.
