“A high point of our trip”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

We got to the Rain Forest Discovery Center at 6 am. We got there at. 6 am and had the jungle to ourselves. The guide did not get there until 8:20.. He was a Embera Indian who knows the forest like the back of his hand. The Discovery Center is quite a way from Gamboa so one needs a ride. Allow yourself at least 4 hours. The fee for the Discovery Center is a bargain compared to the expensive tours from the Canopy Tower. The view from the Tower is wonderful. Get up there early.

“The Tower is a Great Place to Watch Birds”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

If you are a bird watcher, make sure that you get to the Tower early in the morning to catch the early activity of the birds. You can see Toucans, Puffbirds, Raptors, and much more from the tower. In addition, they have hummingbird feeders at the visitor center and you can sit there for hours just watching different kinds of hummingbirds come to the feeders. Great place....highly recommended for those interested in birds. If you want to see other types of animals, we didn't see much else other than squirrels, agoti and one wild pig.

“Wonderful, but out of the way”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

The hummingbirds and butterflies are fantastic. So is the view over the trees from the Tower. Knowledgable and friendly staff too.

Just a bit hard to get to. Took a shuttle from the Gamboa Rainforest Resort, and had to rely on them remembering to pick me up (which they did, thankfully).

Well worth the effort!

“See the REAL JUNGLE”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

Walk up the canopy tower and enjoy the view of the bush! Look for creatures! Trails are safe and easy to follow without a guide. There is a lagoon in which you can view water fowl and birds of prey. Also look for sloth in the trees. The center has water, pop, and snacks with hummingbird feeders buzzing with the little units! See them close up and personal! Make sure to wear long pants and bring bug spray!

“Rainy season”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

We really wanted to see animals and didn't have any luck in the metropolitan park. So we went to the discovery center. I had though I could get a one way cab from Casco Viejo, but didn't realize how remote the place is. Our cab driver was kind enough to stay for the day with us for $50 so we'd have a ride back. You should probably make arrangements ahead of time for this unlike us. It was unfortunately raining in the morning until about 9:30, after the rain let up, the canopy came to life. We weren't birders, but fortunately there was a tour from Canopy Tours and they were able to help us identify all the birds were seeing. We saw 4 toucans in the distance throughout the day and they were incredibly beautiful. We also saw a large iguana in the tree top. We then headed to the lake to see more birds as well as a 12 foot crocodile. The hummingbirds are also incredible to watch, I think we saw about 5-6 different varieties. Be sure to come early and try to avoid the rain. Bring binoculars or rent them for $5.
