Only spent one afternoon at the center, more to check it out for the future and feel its well worth the cost. Great guides that speak english and really know the wildlife in the area and there is a lot. The tower is worth the visit alone. Lots of hummers at the feeders and check out the crocodiles in the lago. Mario is a great guide.

Whenever we have a few hours time from Panama we (family with small children) drive up to the Rainforest Discovery center. You can also hike there from Canal-side Gamboa village.
The center is in the middle of the rainforest. For the small fee you get consumption (water, granola bars, chocolate) and a small map. Then off you go. The canopy tower leads you up to over 30mts to the crown of the great rainforest and you can practically see the layers of vegetation and fauna from the bottom to the top.
A 10min hike takes you to the lake, and we were always lucky to see some baby crocs there. They of course have also big ones. If like bird-watching, bring your binoculars and a book and try to identify them all from Snail Kite to Kingfisher. And beware of the monkeys, they've been fed by tourists and are not afraid of humans.
We also saw hundreds of Humming Birds and two sloths hanging out chewing. Bring a good camera lens, it's dark down on the jungle ground and your flash wont help you.
All in all, every time a wonderful trip for us and our kid, with lots of exercise at the fresh air and friendly competent staff.

My group of students and I had a great time hiking Pipeline Road and visiting the Rainforest Discovery Center. The hike was great for many reasons. We had an amazing and knowledgeable guide by the name of Beny Wilson (highly recommend) and we saw many different bird species, howler monkeys, cutter ants (of course), two and three toed sloths, blue morpho butterflies, etc. Beny kept the hike interesting and had an incredible eye to see obscure birds and wildlife of all kinds. I have been taking students to Central America for 12 years and this is one of the top hikes and guides I have ever had. The discovery canopy tower is not to be missed. It is quite a climb with 160 steps but oh so worth the effort.

Loved walking through the forest, and particularly the climb up the tower. NOT TO BE MISSED. If the stairs are a challenge, just take your time, it will be worth it.

Wonderful hummingbird feeders and very friendly staff not to mention forty minutes of watching a rufous-vented ground-cuckoo and army ant swarm 50 yards from the parking lot.
