The sloths are adorable, the guides are knowledgable. They place a bright pink hyacinth about a foot away from the sloths so that they are motivated to move to it and munch on it. They have a section for the rehabilitating sloths, and then a separate section for the sloths who are preparing to be released back into the wild. You will see many sloths in the wild, but these are very close for great pictures. Attached to the sanctuary is also a butterfly farm where the guides explain the life cycle of the butterflies, an orchid farm, and a poison dart frog exhibit where you will get very close to the green poison dart frog and the "blue jeans" variety. The guides will dispense information about these exhibits and you will leave with a greater understanding of what you see in the wild. I was able to spot wild orchids growing out of a dead tree's branch the next day on the Rainforest tram, and was very quickly able to identify sloths in the trees since I had been educated about what to look for. The sanctuary also has many lovely birds that visit, and lizards wandering through as well. Great place to visit! We traveled as a family with grandparents, young children, and a teenager and everybody loved it.

The tour starts at the hotel lobby where a truck painted in a cheetah pattern picks up the group to take you to a secondary tour desk closer to the Gamboa Rainforest area. Once you pay for your tour there, we headed to the gift shop and then to the sloth sanctuary next door. There is an indoor area where more recently rescued sloths are kept and also an outdoor area you visit on the way to the butterfly sanctuary. We saw 4 indoors and 5 outdoors. The indoor area had some signage with explanations and the tour guide answered questions but we didn’t get to learn specifics about the sloths that were there other than what type they were. The butterfly enclosure was interesting & the tour guide gave a good overview of their lifecycle. I even had a few butterflies land on my leg. Next we moved on to the orchid garden and then finally the frog enclosure. There were two different frogs we could see (each about 1” or less) and learned about their eating habits etc. The whole tour was about an hour.

Saw a lot of sloths in the sanctuary, which was very cool. Then saw beautiful orchids native to the country. The butterflies were also native and in varying states. This was a great quick tour. The guide also spoke English.

I booked this for my family in case we were not able to see sloths in the wild during our stay. Our guide Rosie was really nice and did a wonderful job. This is something that nature lovers of all ages would enjoy. I appreciate that the resort is giving space for sloth refugees. The butterfly garden was also very nice and rosie made sure we saw butterfly eggs, pupae, caterpillars and of course many varieties of beautiful butterflies! If you don't have much time to spend in the jungle I recommend making the trip to the gamboa rainforest resort for a nice sampling of what the gamboa rainforest has to offer!

This was one of my favorite tours. Natalia was amazing! We went through the sloth sanctuary and then to the butterflies, orchids, and frogs. We definitely learned a lot!
