“Quaint - Oldy worldy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2014

We had not been to this venue before but had been recommend by several friends. So this was a recon, visit. A small well kept garden at the front. Quite a tall step down at the entrance with a small bar on the left. To the right is a type of lounge area all nicely furnished throughout. At the rear there is a large restaurant/function area. The food is pricy, in the 4* range but we have been told excellent quality. A downside? for a large venue there only seems to be 3 toilets. Might be a long wait if its a busy day

“More than a trifle disappointment”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2014

This is a relatively expensive venue but rarely comes near the anticipated standard.
The night we were there the mainly women waiting and bar staff treated the venue like a roadside cafe. No sense of style or presentation. The starter and mains were fine but they should be. But the desserts were woeful. When did a trifle turn into custard and jelly? No fruit, no alcohol and no style. As for my partners creme brulee, it appeared to have been ill-prepared
Lets finish the meal with a coffee? Nice coffee pot, something special, some style. All missing. Just a cup, milk sparingly added at table and taken away and sugar fit fir the bin.
This has been a good venue in the past but is now living on a legend long since gone.

“Excellent restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2014

We have eaten here many times over many years and as usual we were not disappointed. The food is wonderful. They recommended what wine we should have and it was a great choice. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. We were not rushed and the atmosphere is very relaxed. So good food, good wine and wonderful staff, what more could you want.

“Overpriced pub grub..awlful!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2014 via mobile

I had beef stroganoff and the rice was like an uncle bens sachet with dried herb seasoning. My partner had the lamb shank at well over and above price any where else. Just boring food u could get for under half the price anywhere else. Shameful that a gorgeous venue should serve what they get from bookers or similar and dress it up with attentive service and venue to admire.

“Wedding Day and Reception”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2014

We have just held my daughters wedding ceremony and reception at the Smugglers, the day was amazing. The Hog Roast was fantastic, thoroughly recommended. The garden setting for the wedding ceremony was magical. I cannot praise the staff enough. They were attentive to our every need and made the day flow effortless. The owners, Bob and Lisa, were on hand at all times and nothing was to much trouble. If you are thinking of a wedding venue, the smugglers is the place.
