“Don't pass this one by”

We visited this restaurant for lunch as a result of a Groupon deal. The weather was not great and on approaching the premises the first impressions were not great, just a regular seafront cafe and even though we had prepaid we discussed giving it a miss. ON a 'what the hell' basis we parked up and went in. First impressions were very good - the decor was modern and smart and we received a warm welcome. What followed was two hours of excellent and creative food and mainly sourced from the surrounding area (including sea). The staff whilst young were nevertheless efficient and courteous which is not always easy to pull off for teenagers. Retiring to the bar/lounge for coffee the remaining time was spent watching the sea, passing ships and the sun trying to break through. Externally is an outside seating area and we resolved to come back the instant the weather will support to it to have another lunch with an afternoon enjoying the sea air - not a bad plan !! Prices were very reasonable given the quality that was on offer - Well done, we now have a good reason to visit Birchington

“Verged on the ridiculous”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

New to the area we accepted at face value good reviews we had heard and booked for Valentines. Sad to say that management have not invested in getting the customer safely from a dark and wet car park to the restaurant - not a light in sight and even more worrying they have invested little or no time in the training of a young staff - they have no idea - an expensive bottle of wine was just plonked on the table in front of my husband with a very tired and small wine glass and the waitress just left. When we asked what meats were included in the second course we were simply told "I don't know" - absolutely no attempt to check even though she told us that a couple of other people had asked the same question!!!! Felt like we were in a Little Britain sketch..."computer says no". Food was awful. A 5 course menu put together by amatuers - I'm sorry to say it but I could not recommend the minis, in fact I have told friends not to go there. Poor Show on all counts I'm afraid - they really do need to rethink.

“unbelievable - so bad it was comical”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

supposed to be a 76th birthday dinner, not a welcoming light in sight, car park and pathway to the restaurant pitch black. we ended up parking at the sea front and proceeded to stumble up the path to the restaurant ( I have visual problems). Once inside it was clean, light. sparse and cold, no tablecloths on the tables. We were handed the menus and subsequently tried to place our order, l lamb dish, 1 steak, 1 chicken to be told, -sorry no lamb, no steak, yes we can do the chicken. An expensive bottle of wine (opened) and two glasses was dumped unceremoniously on the table and we were left to do the honours. Our dinners arrived and they looked as if the Chef had tried to hide his mistakes by artistically arranging the meal around the plate. The child wanted a second fruit juice but they did not have any - now this is a café, mini bar and restaurant and they only had 1 fruit juice in the establishment. I wish I could say this was the finish but my daughter/son in law had booked for Valentine's night and as I found out later was worse than the first night. They will put a review on this place and we will certainly not be visiting the place again except on weekdays and afternoons w/ends for coffee/hot chocolate etc.that is if they have ny.

“Very Dissapointing”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

We were looking forward to the Tasting Menu but it all went down hill as soon as we walked in the resturant it was so COLD in there it was like siberia not a cosy resturant, next they brought the wrong wine and we do like the wine to be opened at the table not already opened, two of the five dishes of the tasting menu were practically the same, their saving grace was they changed my dessert for cheese although taken straight from the fridge, also i had to ask the names of all the English cheeses was not explained at the time of serving, even at a travel zoo deal we felt this was not good value for money we have had much better. Oh forgot to say that the sausage in the meat dish was like chewing on a bit of rubber.

“Sadly going down hill”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

Weve been to the minnis tens of time over the past few years - always enjoyed the freindly ambience and excellent food weekdays , weekends and evenings , sadly the last few times has really gone down hill .. a 40 minute wait for food seems to be a normal occurrence lately and little excuse as staff seem to be waiting at the serving hatch for food , slow roasted duck was massecared too overcooked to eat ... another occasion the goasts cheese starter was missing the goats cheese ..somethings gone amiss seems like service and front of house are poor and no one is acting on the quality of food .. very sad , wont be returning for a while and many people we speak to say the same
