The museum at Quex House is well worth a visit. We were particularly interested as we had been to Africa in the summer. The rooms are well laid out and there is plenty to interest everyone, even children. The gardens are lovely, but we had to cut our walk short as it rained heavily. Unfortunately there was a private party in the restaurant, so we had to go to Quex Barn for lunch - but the food there was great, so we didn't mind that at all.

Each year Powell-Cotton Museum host a superb Christmas Craft Fair with over 70 stalls throughout this fascinating museum and even utilising the beautiful gardens too, with heated marquees :-)
This is brilliant family day out. While the grown ups browse through the wonderful craft stalls stocking up on those special and unique Christmas goodies, the children are kept busy by quiz trail, for which they win a prize for each completed entry.
Plus there is festive entertainment too in the form of carol singing.
And the amazing Santa's Grotto, which is situated in the sumptuous dining room of Quex House complete with roaring open fire, traditional decorations, a huge tree, and many period pieces including a vintage rocking-horse. This is how we all imagine Christmas should be. What a wonderful experience for children of all ages.
The dining room is carefully prepared and decorated for this event by Major Powell-Cotton's great granddaughter and his great great grandchildren .... A truly wonderful family Christmas experience NOT TO BE MISSED

This is a very strange and bizzer museum. You and your children will learn from this experience. There is a lot of stuffed animals. The garden's attached to the house and museum are s must see too. A great afternoon out and doesn't cost much.

We visited this place on rather a wet day. The gardens were lovely but would have been better in sunshine. The big attraction is the museum which has amazingly large dioramas with all the African animals. Children were well catered for and this could be a great learning experience. The wonder to me was how the animals, tiny and huge, were transported and then stuffed in England. It was a fantastic collection. The house was interesting but we did not see many rooms for instance the kitchen. One word of warning, phone on a Saturday to see if there is a wedding, as the restaurant is shut down, and the day we were there was only coffee and a biscuit to be eaten in the corridor outside the shop.

this museum at first glance is shocking as it hold thousand of dead animals which young children may find shocking but in historical context the museum is fascinating but really warrants a few days to look at all the artefacts. The bell tower is also worth a visit.
