We have just returned from a 3 night break at the Marriott Meon Valley and had a great time and thought it was really good value for money. We travelled with 2 small children, mainly to visit the nearby peppa pig world and had a great stay. The room was large and comfortable, with lovely comfy beds and pillows. The bathroom, whilst maybe a little dated was perfectly adequate and clean and well stocked with towells. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the buffet breakfast fantastic. Despite being a golfers hotel, they are very well geared up for families with a separate and spacious breakfast room with plenty of high chairs and a play area to keep the little ones happy while you enjoy your breakfast. We dined in the informal restaurant for 2 nights and whilst it is a little on the pricey side, the food arrived quickly and it was on the whole, good value for money. The staff were excellent and very helpful to us and our party of 8 (two families of 4).
We had rooms 316 and 318 at the side of the hotel, which were quiet. We used the pool twice which the kids loved and towels for the pool were provided at no charge which is a real bonus and saves you having to pack extra which takes up a lot of room in your bag for a family of 4 We didn't really explore the grounds though they were vast and well kept from what we could see. I would definitely come again if visiting the area, especially if we could get a good advanced paying deal as we did for this trip. My little girl of 4 had such a great time she was in tears all the way home! If you are staying with small children, a trip to the nearby one hundred acre wood with its adventure play area is a must. For a good value, comfortable stay, close to all amenities, I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We had rooms 316 and 318 on the 3rd floor to the side. They were quiet and at the end of the corrid...

Found a deal on the internet for a family room for less than £100.

It does feel like a four star hotel, the condition of the facilities, pool, gym, restaurant and rooms were all excellent.

On arrival after a 'busy' day at Poulton's Park (Peppa Pig World)!.. There was friendly welcome and a very simple check in, no hassle at all, just the ticket! The cot bed was already made (a stipulation made online and was observed without the need of a prompt).

Did not get to use all the facilities, but he girls loved the pool. I forgot my shorts but the £25 for a new pair even if it was for Speedos was more than double a Sports Direct equivalent, hence a 4 and not 5 star rating on the value. It would help if there were family rooms as i was not overly comfortable with taking my 4 and 5 year old girls to change in the Mens changing rooms (no cubicles). I found out later that there was a disabled toilet that would have sufficed, although suspect were he pool in any way busy that room may not be as easily accessible. The gym looked modern but did not use it.

They did have room service and pay per view movies with a modest choice.. The £6 or £7 price tag was worth the 90 minutes peace :-) It did have a good kids choice of meals that were priced very reasonably. Had we not chosen to eat beforehand on the misguided pre-conception, we would have ordered of that menu. Breakfast was included and the modern open plan restaurant with a nice view was spacious and well appointed. The Full English was excellent, although the scrambled eggs did taste out of a packet.. Although not strictly true i did over hear the waiter advising another guest the 'special' formula was as a result of health & safety gone mad? That said they will cook you an omelette, or fresh scrambled eggs.

Not sure there is a Spa, and so have marked it average (i accidentally hit the star button but could not undo - probably me? rather than a glitch with Trip-advisor).

As for kids, the hotel does look geared towards a certain target market as even the pool did not really have much of a shallow end (they still loved it!). No kids area that i could see and so again this got a three star.

Overall the experience was highly enjoyable and memorable for all the right reasons.. When your kids say when we visit PPW again lets stay here again you know it was a good choice and so comes Recommended from me!

The staff at this hotel are delightful and if only they would just go that tiny little bit extra, or have a little bit more supervision and training the the hotel would be excellent. Examples; tea pot only 2/3 full of hot water, table wiped beautifully but placemats not touched, staff hoovering in busy bar at 10.30pm ( explanation - we have to do it ourselves?? ) breakfast buffet lukewarm.
Our main disappointment was the (one) AA rosette restaurant. One rosette standard is simple good food well cooked and served. A surprise amuse bouche ( parsnip puree) was unseasoned and lukewarm. The starter of tomato soup was just that, also lukewarm and barely seasoned. My Moules mariniere were sent back. (uncharged) They arrived on a soup plate with no spoon or second plate for the shells. The lukewarm sauce in the bottom of the plate was made with thick cream, with tiny diced but almost raw shallots. The mussels had clearly never had previous acquaintance with the sauce as they were dry, each one with a large lukewarm and barely cooked mussel inside. The chef disagreed ( via waitress) and said if the shells were open they were cooked. ( were they microwaved?? )
The main course was also not worthy of an AA rosette. Misleadingly described as Wild mushrooms and leek tart with cauliflower cheese. The 'tart' was nothing of the sort - just a separate pillow of puff pastry on the side, with a glutinous greyish sauce with about 95% normal button mushrooms and a few thin slices of shiitake mushrooms and barely a leek to be seen. Also lukewarm and underseasoned. The cauliflower cheese was delicious but so hot it was only cool enough to be eaten well after the rest of the plate was finished. The food prices were very reasonable (mains around £12-14) but the wine list was very overpriced cheapest ,very average, bottle was £24.
We didn't risk dessert. We asked if the head chef was present - he was not. Surprising when the hotel was full on a busy holiday weekend.

Room Tip: Hotel has strange layout you may end up walking quite long distances to restaurants, spa etc.

Stayed for 2 days on a sales conference so had a chance to use most of the facilities apart from the golf course. The hotel is generally comfortable, the food good and the spa and health centre facilities very good. The thing that lifts the hotel above the ordinary and almost to being excellent is the staff who are all well trained, friendly and helpful. Lisa Short and Gonzalo Hamdan were outstanding.

I would have rated the Hotel as excellent but the room let the rest down. The radiator in my room was off and only with that back on and a supplementary oil filled radiator was it made warm, the toilet seat needed renewing and there was mould on the bathroom ceiling.

Room Tip: 4th Floor is best for all the facilities.

What a lovely hotel. The staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble and everything is none with a smile! So impressed!
Food is superb, I'll be back!
We were late arriving on the first day for treatments at the spa and the girls were so understanding and fitted us in later in our stay. They could not have been more helpful!

Resort style hotel close to Southampton/Portsmouth.

Great 18 hole and 9 hole golf courses - scenic, and some challenging holes (signature par 3 12th on the Meon course is great!), with very friendly clubhouse staff and driving range/academy.

Hotel is one of Marriotts better offerings, with spacious rooms, very comfortable beds, flat screen TV's etc. Walls bewteen rooms, especially in connecting rooms are not sound proof - young family in room next to us were quite noisy......

Good gym and pool/sauna/steam facilities

Very good buffet breakfast in pleasant room

Dinner for this group of 16 golfers was served in a private room - food quality and service were very good.

Zest bar is spacious and welcoming but oh dear - the drinks prices are exorbitant! 15 mins walk from the hotel is the Wheatsheaf pub - great real ale/locals pub and slightly further afield in Whickham is a very nice hostely (Kings Head?)

Hotel average. Some rooms not to the standard expected at a Marriott. Very few vacancies for treatments unless booked weeks before. Restaurant evening meal for 16 terrible. Not enough staff provided - the few waitresses on duty however were good. 45 mins before order taken. Up to an hour between courses and food below average and complaints were made. We were served dessert at 11.15 p.m - over 3 hours after sitting down. Not once did a member of the management team come to apologise for delay. Our organiser made a formal complaint and we were compensated but that did not make up for a really disappointing evening spoilt by poor organisation of the management who knew in advance how many they needed to cater for on this particular evening. Cost cutting no doubt! Watch out for the charge for internal calls to spa or golf shop!! The Wifi is not free - they charge!
