“Not for a family with kids”
Reviewed February 20, 2012

We stayed at the Sea Breeze Apartments and for the price we paid for to stay in Aruba, it was cheap for a family of 5 so we weren't expecting it to be all glamous and all but the place didn't have hot water or even warm water. Apparently, the pipes are warmed up by the sun, so it was raining season so the pipes don't get warm much as this time. For someone staying with kids, I thought it was hard because I had to boil hot water and bath them in the sink.

The sheets were extremely filthy and worn out and it looks like they used old curtains as sheets. Also, the bathroom smelled like urine eventhough it was cleaned every 3rd day. Also, there was huge roaches, I understand they got to be a few bugs but these guys were gigantic.

I wouldn't recommend for a family with young kids but if you're single or a couple and just want a place to stay in Aruba, this place is ok. It's near a beach for snokling but not swimming as there are rocks, a supermarket like 1 block down the road and a restaurant/bar in the same place. A car is highly recommended as you are 20 minute drive from downtown where all the action is. This place is far out in a local neighbourhood. We rented a car for a week for about $280 and it costs about $100 for gas for the week, we drove everyday and explore the island. What's good about this place is we were not far from baby beach which was our favorite. As it was shallow for the kids, had snack place on the beach, a great place for snokling, and you can rent chairs and canopies, the water was crystal clear turkois blue, white sand, no seaweed. It was breathtaking. The owner was nice but we had to pay in full when we checked in which I thought was different because when you stay in a hotel in Canada, you pay when you checked out. Once he got our payment, he didn't care and ignored us and walked away when I asked about the hot water.

Overall, we would pay more to stay in the downtown area and pay the extra costs for a comfortable stay. It was good to get home and sleep in our clean and comfortable beds.

I stayed here with my sister for a little over a week in mid August and it was a great experience. It's a very quite area with a variety of places to eat (the food ranged from cheap to pretty pricey). There's a huge Melicoccus bijugatu tree right behind the fence of the apartments. They are cozy, with strong air conditioning. The small pool is pleasant though we didn't use it much, with the ocean less than one block away. There are about 4 different ocean entrances you can use and all of them offer absolutely amazing snorkelling. A super market is within a minutes walk of seabreeze. Having a full kitchen was awesome and the small table on our patio was ideal for eating our meals. There was enough space for me and my sister to practice yoga and the general aesthetic of Seabreaze apartments is calm and pleasant. Having a car is very convenient, though we didn't rent one. We ended up taking busses if we wanted to go out. This becomes problematic if you want to come back later than 12am. All the people staying there were friendly and Phillip (owner) was extremely helpful. I also found a mango tree a block down.

I stayed at Sea Breeze Apartments during 16th July until July 19th. It was an awesome trip. The owner picked me up at the airport giving me some explanation of the apartments. It's a quiet environment to stay. Also in a quiet neighborhood. I will definitely recommend this apartment!!

Perfect alternative to a hotel and very friendly. We like being able to use the barbecue, hanging out with friends on the terrace and the absolute best is the sea which is so near. Although Seabreeze is now a little old, it has its own atmosphere. Loads of books and great for a casual easygoing holiday. We are planning to go back... next week, if we can get away from Europe at all (volcanic cloud!!)

Sea-breeze apartments is not for people who want nightlife at their doorstep, or luxury hotels with large pools. Having said that, it suited us to a T. We had a small family reunion, and Sea-breeze apartments allowed us to feel at home. We all had our own apartment/studio, each with a kitchenette. We gathered at one place for breakfast (there is a small grocery store just half a block away where we could get the basic necessities and some extras), had lunch together and we were only 5 minutes walking from a great swimming and snorkeling area. A slightly longer walk to the right brought us to Marina Pirata, a very nice restaurant, and to the left to Mangel Halto, a sandy beach with umbrellas and a lagoon, much in demand by snorkeling enthusiasts and diving schools.
The rooms were certainly adequate - well equipped with ironing board and iron, safe, hair-dryer and LOTS of books! We had a very nice barbeque meal with friends in the large common outdoor seating area, the owner, Philip, was more than helpful. A car is certainly useful, we reserved one prior to our arrival. The place was quiet, air-conditioned, simple but comfortable. The pool was not very deep, not a place to swim, but great to relax in after a few hours in the sea. Nice to sit on our private patio and look at the birds and plants, or gather at the seating area for drinks. Yes, there is the "one temperature suits all" shower and water, which was on the cool side, but I heard no screams from anyone when they hit the shower! One word of caution: if you go, do bring a beach towel with you. I am sure we could have gotten more towels, but we had our own for the beach and that was handy. Would we go back? Definitely!! The stress just melted off.......

Everything is close in Aruba, just so you dont think far means very far from town. The Island is only 30 km and around 15 km wide, in other words, what we thought would take us several days to explore the Island, took us indeed only 2 days with car.

If you want to stay at Seabreeze you WILL need a car, rental or from anybody else. We rented from Amigo Car, the recommended one by Seabreeze. Staff was friendly and they, well the owner, picks you up from the airport that is only 5 km away from the apartments. In case you want to rent a car, you could already ask around outside the airport, there you have AVIS, BUDGET, Amigo Car etc etc. Also have a look at the info desk for flyers with offers, you will find good offers there already.

For us getting to Orangestad, Eagle Beach and the California lighthouse up north was no problem. Very easy and calm driving. 80kmh is the maximum allowed speed on the island, otherwise you travel around 50-60kmh the whole time.

Now back to the aparthotel, as you can see in the other review, warm water is missing. This isnt really a must, as it was very hot outside, in November. What we didnt like though is that only a courtain is set up as door for the toilet, a bit annoying. Otherwise you have AC and WiFi in the rooms, very practical. Make sure to clean to kitchen stuff once more when you come as we found it a bit dirty when arriving, but this is done in a few minutes, so it was no problem for us.

The most annoying thing was the cat outside. Dont feed him in case you dont want him outside your door at 5 am in the morning making noise. We were sorry for him so we did that, and well, was hard to get rid of him. He looks a bit weird and sick I must say.

So well, was just some thoughts, all in all, was a pleasant stay. Its a romantic and beautiful Island with marvelous water and beaches. With a car you will get everywhere on the island within minutes. We travel around the world so this was the economical option, do it yourself place we choose d due to our long time away from home.

If your purpose of going to Auruba is luxury and beaches, the Sea-Breeze Apartments is probably not your best option. But if it is to get away from it all on a budget, this is the spot. The Sea-Breeze is located in the quietest affordable area on the populated side of the island (in the opposite direction from the airport from where most tourists stay, but well before industrialized San Nicolas and it's population spread). In addition, there is an enclosed tropical garden behind the walls that surround the apartment for even more peace and quiet. The garden is meticulously created and very beautiful.

There are a few caveats such as no hot water (while the normal temperature of the water is warm, it is slightly cooler than most people from the US prefer to shower in), the bathroom sink has a spring loaded faucet making it harder for shaving, and the bathroom door is a curtain instead of a hard door. But there are also nice touches such as the homey decorations, in-room safe, air conditioning, full size kitchen with everything I needed, a DVD player and stereo, friendly staff, etc.

The map on their website is slightly wrong at the time of this writing. The apartments are actually 1/2 block past the Chinese restaurant and mini-market toward the sea. You need to do a slight zig-zag to get there.
