We have just stayed a couple of nights at the Anchorage, what a lovely surprise,I was told that it had been run down and not very good but I gave I took a gamble and we couldn't fault it, the room was clean, bright and airy, the bathroom albeit just a tad tired was clean. The room was nicely decorated and the bed was comfortable and best of all was the attentive staff, one of the best service experiences of all our 40 years of traveling in 5 star establishments...and with the place being totally renovated and finished by the end of the year, it will then be amazing! We are already planning a return visit.

This place is lovely on the outside but tired and in need of renovation.

Large comfortable rooms, great service, awesome breakfast buffet, lovely location with peaceful marina and views.

Just needs a renovation to bring rooms up to standard.

Externally it looked lovely and then we entered our room. 411. Big room, first impression was great. Walked to open door onto balcony and carpet was saturated. Bath badly stained. All night long you can hear people using their bathroom. Noise in corridors and adjoining rooms was unbelievable. Curtains had holes in them so light pours into room early morning. Our bed was comfortable. We enjoyed buffet breakfast two mornings, and had room service one night. Delicious. Staff we're very friendly in Merretts. Reception staff didn't want to hear our complaints! We hope the current improvements include sound proofing!

My wife and I were booked in to stay 2 nights in a loft suite over the long weekend. However The Anchorage was so disappointing we left after the first night. I understand that renovations have commenced however I think they are quite a few years overdue.

The room was very worn and tired looking. The carpet is well past it's used by date and although it seems to be cleaned well it gives you that dirty feeling due to years of wear, same goes for the lounge in the downstairs area. The shower screen leaked very badly so at the end of a short shower the bathroom looked like a lake and the upstairs heating didn't work. It certainly wasn't worth the money.

The next morning we asked reception if there were any alternative rooms and not surprisingly on a long weekend there were not, probably for the best as I was so underwhelmed that I was happy to drive back to Sydney after only one night. We weren't offered a refund for the unused night but it was given when we asked. What we weren't offered in any shape or form was an apology or any effort to repair the poor experience we had.

I certainly hope the renovations are completed a quick as possible and provides a comprehensive transformation to The Anchorage because the waterfront location offers great potential.

We recently had two nights at Anchorage which is ideally located on the picturesque water’s edge of Corlette Point.

Our room was on the ground floor with its own outdoor patio and looked out over both the waters of Port Stephens and the Anchorage Marina.

The room itself was very spacious (with a king bed), although some of the furnishings were a bit tired and the bathroom was in need of a makeover, although shower pressure was excellent. Having said that, the room was very clean and it is also worth mentioning that the owners are currently in the process of working through the refurbishment of all rooms within the complex in various stages.

A couple of issues that management should consider addressing are the fact that there were no instructions in the room on how to use the TV & internet (had to contact reception) and there was also no TV channel listing. Also, whilst Wi-Fi is available in the rooms, the cost is totally exhorbitant (minimum half day $15; 1 day $30) with not even an hourly rate available. In this day and age, most progressive places around the world are now offering such a service at no cost.

Within the complex, there is the Captains Bar lounge area which overlooks the marina and water and is ideal for relaxation and / or a night cap, whilst the restaurant (Merretts Restaurant) offers superb fine dining. My wife and I enjoyed an absolutely wonderful three course meal, however it should be noted that bookings are essential.

Staff service throughout our stay could not be faulted, whilst parking is readily available.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and once all rooms have been renovated, would strongly recommend. It is also hoped Management address the TV and Wi-Fi matters mentioned above.

Room Tip: Suggest request a newly refurbished room with water views

Helpful staff when allocating a room to suit my elderly traveling companion heralded
a very enjoyable stay at The Anchorage. Large, well appointed room with wonderful
little garden space overlooking the stunning marina. Parking virtually at the door made
access easy. Dinner at "Merretts" restaurant was delicious as was the included breakfast
next morning. All in all, a highly recommended hotel, quietly undergoing a $6 million
refurbishment with all rooms expected to be completed by Christmas 2014 - I will
be back!!

My daughter and her now husband selected The Anchorage to hold their wedding.
This was a fantastic choice.
Location, scenery and accommodation was wonderful.
All the staff were fantastic.
This place is more of a resort then a motel.
Many guests at the wedding stayed for the weekend or longer and all were very pleased and complimentary regarding their accommodation.
The room was quiet, very clean and comfortable. Nice bar and breakfast was good.
Plenty of (free)parking.
For a peaceful weekend away or for a special function this is a great place.

Room Tip: Take your pick. Upstairs rooms have balconies, ground floor units have nice outdoors areas.
