I have written before of our visits to Crete (have been visiting for 20 years). This was our first visit to a different hotel in all that time; and our first all inclusive. What a difference to our "usual hotel"! We found the staff excellent, Nickos [barman];Annamarie;Valitine;Martin;Yarrick & Anya [restaurant], the cleaning staff and management were more than helpful, no matter what they were asked for. The food was first class, offering at least 4/5 choices at each meal (I'm such a fussy eater too!). I've read some other reviews and can honestly say from my personal experience it is UNTRUE for one review to say that "AI stops at 1200hrs when you are leaving, even if you leave at 1900hrs (we were picked up at 1830hrs and were able to partake of everything until then). We have absolutely NO hesitation recommending this hotel! The ONLY down side,as I am concerned, is the very rocky beach and I recommend that any visitors ensure they purchase adequate footwear proir to their visit. This was a very enjoyable holiday and we shall return. To everyone at the Dias Solimar Hotel thank you!

Room Tip: For the extra few pounds/euros go superior room.

My girlfriend and I simply loved it! For the kind of money we paid it was more than we expected! The hotel itself was newly renovated and it was simple but beautifully and stylishly done!

SERVICE
For a 3* plus hotel the service was 5 STAR! extremely helpful and caring staff! service with a GENUINE smile! from the girls in the reception, the waiting staff in the dining room, Niko and the girls in the pool bar and everyone else!
ROOMS
Simple but SUPER CLEAN! fridge, wardrobe, aircondition, lights next to bed, flat screen tv, quite powerful shower.... We found the matress a bit hard for our taste but probably because it was a new one. Cleaners came everyday, changed towels etc on a daily basis
FOOD
that was the most pleasant surprise!!! for the money we paid, we though we will eat pizza and pasta everyday... On the contrary, the majority of the food was SUPERB! a very satisfactory choice of dishes, vegetarian choices, fish, salads, a variety of breads, dips, sauces etc! the majority of food is made from scratch, and there is something for everyone....! I really loved the fact that there was an emphasis on greek food rather than cheap and nasty burgers or frozen pizzas.of course the buffet included pasta, pizza and international dishes but almost everything was more than satisfying... another impressive thing was that most deserts were homemade!!! Snacks on swimming pool not my cup of tea but to be honest after 3 HUUUUUGE meals i couldnt possibly stuff my face more!!

LOCATION
hotel is literally 100 metres from the beach! if you want water sports its 5 mins walk ( rithymna beach) taxi to rethymno is 10 euros but when we got there the taxi drivers were on strike so we took the bus ( every 15 mins or so theres bus to rethymno 1,20 euro. there are plenty of shops and bars within walkin distance.

HOTEL
minimalistic and tasteful, without tacky decorations ( less is more) nice balconies, a good size swimming pool with a pool bar. the music in the bar is at right levels, adequate number of sunbeds, grass, a canopy where you can sit and drink something, a table tennis , tennis court, showers and clean toilets. Dining room clean , you can eat inside or outside. you can tell that the people behind the hotel put love in their effort!

There was a nice mixture of German, Russian , Polish French Swis and English people, mainly families with very well behaved childrean and couples and during our 7 night stay we had extremely plesant times in the swimming pool! No big groups of drunk young guys which was perfect for relaxed holidays!

Overall our stay was a very pleasant experience, we thoroughly enjoyed it and it was a real value for money! The kind of hotel i d recommend to anyone that wants a relaxed holiday with his gfriend or his family! 5* for you guys, keep up the good work!

Ok for a cheapie but beware all inclusive stops a 12 noon day of your departure you will have to pay for meals and drinks. Stop serving at 22:45 for drinks. Staff very pleasant. Not ideal for more than a week.

Overall Crete was a disappointment for me travelling from Chania airport I thought we had arrived in the middle of a shanty town! It is a very run down area, lots of half finished buildings, scrapped cars lying in fields, so when we reached our hotel I was very gratified to see a very attractive white building that proved to be spotless with daily cleaning in room and clean towels provided. Although rooms are relatively small they do have nice bathroom, 2 beds, air conditioning (which only operates when balcony doors are shut ) and fridge. No hair dryer provided. Also more provision for storage needed, no draws for clothes although small wardrobe available. There was also a up to date flat screen TV provided but no English channels available apart from BBC news. TV was not a priority on holiday but did miss end of Wimbledon. WiFi available at an extra cost of 2 euro's per hour and a log in code must be obtained from reception
The reception area is nicely appointed with a bar area which unfortunately was never used and there was no entertainment provided throughout the 2 weeks we were there so we had to venture out.
Across the road there is an entrance to the beach and if you follow this track and turn left you can enter the beach club of the hotel Rethymon Palace which is welcoming, providing superb cocktails and entertainment (only takes 5 minutes to get there)
Our aim on holiday was to relax, take time to read and get a suntan and the temperature certainly gave us chance to do that being between 34 - 38 degrees daily however spending time round the pool was regularly spoiled by the music that rang out from the pool bar throughout the day. Relaxing music would have been welcome however Rap music was played constantly, the "boom boom boom" rang out, the bass could be heard over my MP3 earphones and despite repeated complaints this didn't change until the day before we left. The pool area was clean with sunbeds provided, hotel towels could be obtained for a deposit of 10 euro's each.
I would caution anyone who has previously visited a "all inclusive" hotel to read the small print carefully when staying at the Dias. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were provided but only between strict time zones (7.30am - 9.30am /13.00 - 14.00/ 19.00 - 21.00) which meant that we had to plan our day around the times of food availability, often we were not up in time for breakfast, on days that we would be out at lunch time we were able to ask for a lunch box at an extra cost of 2 euro's which frankly I felt should of been provided free of charge given that we weren't there for lunch and consisted of a sandwich, orange and bottle of water. "Snacks" at the bar were brought out in the afternoon and consisted of a tray of pizza or cheese rolls so for those expecting a menu forget it. Ice creams and cocktails were available but these had to be paid for separately. There was an uproar amongst the guests when they found that provision of free drinks of wine and beer ended at 10.45pm and that drinks such as whisky, brandy that was imported had to be paid for (although this is stated) and this was down to the interpretation of the "fully inclusive" terminology and the general expectation of the same services provided on their previous "fully inclusive" holidays
There is no waiter service in the dining room although staff are there to clear and set tables however a number of guests had cause to complain about the attitude of certain staff members who were very abrupt in how they approached guests and ruled the dining room with a rod of iron! Apparently there is a "dress code" but very few of us were aware of this or the perimeters as shorts and T-shirts were often worn. On one occasion a young couple came to dinner wearing clothes over pool wear ,having plated their food from the buffet bar as they sat down they were told quite aggressively (in front of the whole restaurant) to go and change and their meal was taken from them although they were permitted to obtain a further plate of food after they changed and returned to the restaurant, personally I would have died with embarrassment and not bothered.
The food was well cooked and quite good but by the second week it became tedious as there is little variation and so towards the end of the holiday we found it preferable to eat out for breakfast and lunch.
I would recommend the trips as being interesting costing between 28/30 Euro's but again add in lunch costs and if it involves a boat this will be a further additional cost of between 9 - 11 euro's.
This is an hotel striving to improve and further refurbishment is planned to take place to transform the pool area later in the year and although the manager is approachable he is simply not visible enough, there is no deputy in his absence and this leaves an very young and inexperienced workforce managing the hotel many of whom really struggle with languages given that the guests are made up of Russian/ German/ French and English contingent and it was evident that staff performance changed the minute he became visible. More emphasis needs to be put on talking to guests and making himself known as I am sure this would provide him with constructive feedback.
There is a road that passes in front of the hotel but this is the same for all the hotels in the area and probably could be thought of as a B road in England.
In conclusion in my own opinion this can be seen as a 3 star hotel that does provide most of the facilities it advertises but often with hidden costs, the management need to consider carefully on what their guests expect from a "fully inclusive" holiday in comparison with that provided from other holiday destinations and to send the staff on customer relations training as this is often the determinative factor on the willingness to return.

Room Tip: The hotel is separated into 2 buildings make sure you get a room between the numbers 100 - 300 as th...

arrived at hotel and thought it was very nice been totally refurbished in 2011 décor furnishing good standard, staff friendly and helpful .the downside,it appears the hotel wasn't quite ready in as much as food was spoilt due to incorrect temperature all brand new equipment but not working correctly staff tried there best and introduced a microwave in order to warm the food up. shame as the food would have been good.
be careful using plastic chairs on balconies as mine split and the leg came off whilst i was sat on it .wifi advertised as free in their on line brochure also on olympics advert this is not so as there is a charge.i queried this at the reception and was told the advert was incorrect and they would remove it as to date it as not been removed drinks not good for all inclusive unrecognizable ,coffee always cold drinks only half full and they are not pint glasses, finished serving at 10-45pm.pool bar and indoor bar only one bar person so pool bar opened closed when raining then inside bar used but was not fully stocked so barman had to go in restaurant to get beer .only english speaking tv channel bbc world news.no entertainment at evenings in hotel as advertised.if it rains the steps up to the reception very slippy.no diagrams on bedroom doors of where fire exits are.hotel clean.got a lot to sort out opened to soon .
near beach .flat area.walking up to shops .if you go on trips you have to try the yellow .train. the.coach trips with klados travel excellent .went to chania city and the little south round trip scenery beautiful the tour guide name [lazarus] absolutely fabulous

Room Tip: we were upgraded at extra cost.saw better room 316

The Hotel itself has been updated so all was very nice and clean , I thought the pool was lovely and clean too so no worries there,The food would have been lovely had they been able to keep it hot , but the trolleys just didnt work so I was very concerned that this could become a problem as the hot weather approaches, I did express my concernens as it sat on the trolleys almost cold most days... the salads however were lovely and loads of choice
If they just got the heat right the food itself was nice and meat was very tender.
This is not a 4 star hotel and dont be fooled by fully inclusive, we were quite annoyed that the only drinks available were Brandy Ouzo Raki, and the gun cokes and soft drinks, everything else had to be paid for even Ice Coffee .. and it wasnt cheap !! also they tend to give you half measure and no pints so the men had to keeep refilling, although the bar man was obviously told not to hurry, the bar closed at midnight but we couldnt get our fully inclusive drinks after 10.45 STRANGE .. and we found the bar man not very willing to give over any drinks you could only have one drink at a time each so if u think you can have a good time on free drinks thin k again !! was very annoying...even the coffe had to be the cheap stuff not even a milky one, also we were not allowed any larger during our meal,(read the package_ no free internet either
the lunch basked was rubbish orange apple and 2 sliceds of dry bread with cheese and ham, good for the birds though..
The manager has been told and he is educated in UK so he knows the rules on health and safty, but nice chap as he is, there are no fire warnings on any doors., most people wouldnt look untill needed, the snacks at the bar were few and far between didnt seem to be anything nice to eat around 3 ish and the ice cream consisted on 3 tubs of rock hard and I didnt see any cones for kids,
apart from that staff very nice but I think the boss rules !!!They are letting what would be a very nice hotel down by being tight with drinks and goodies, happy holidays Carole from Horsham Sussex
ps let me know if the poor dog tied under a tree all day opposite the hotel is still there.

Room Tip: a car would be a good option on this location
