Description: Xasomeri means “a waste of time” in Greek. It is in the heart of the old neighbourhood of Vamos,a small but exceptional venue, full of surprises! The cuisine is plentiful and one of the tastiest in all of Apokoronas. The menu is often changing, but it’s based on the Mediterranean cuisine. The sweets are handmade, and the raki is made from the elegant grape varietals “malvazia” and “moschato".

We have just returned from a family holiday to Vamos & ate at this restaurant 4 times during our week as it was the best in the village. The owner & his wife are so hospitable & the food was the best weve eaten in Greece (and weve eaten lots in Greece!!). The menu is fairly concise, and during our visits we tried most things on the menu & it was all tasty.
Before the main meal, some tasty appetisers are provided - which were all lovely. Then we had starters such as stuffed onions, spicy cheese (the best), grilled prawns & camel pie (dont worry - it doesnt contain camel - just beef - but its delicious). For main courses we tried the beef kebabs with yoghurt, the cod with garlic sauce, the pork with plums, the rabbit stifado, the baked aubergine & all were delicious. The portions are just right & the plate doesnt come loaded with side veggies that you dont want - just tasty main course. There is no dessert menu but some creamy lemon pie & fruit with the usual bottle of raki are offered on the house. The food was reasonably priced & a litre of wine was 6 euros - bargain. Would recommend to anybody in the area.

Visited here last night and will be going back regularly. Received a warm welcome on arrival followed by the most superb food we've tasted in the area. Lovely laid back atmosphere, friendly service and (for us) literally round the corner.....couldn't wish for more.

We were in Vamos staying at the Arosmari Village re-treat and the Chasomeri was the first Taverna we visited they were so helpful and friendly that we immediately felt at home. We in fact went back 5 times during our stay and the food and service just got better and better with very reasonable prices. We did try other local places but kept being drawn back to the Chasomeri. The lemon tart was something to die for as was the Pork with Plums. The only problem we had was ordering too much and even then we were asked are you sure you really want two starters.
We plan to return next year and enjoy the area and hopefully this recently opened Taverna (Oct2013) will have gone from strength to strength. On average our evening meal for two came to 30 -35 euros including drinks and tip.

Enjoyed 2 meals here during a week in Vamos at the end of May....wish we had gone more often. The rabbit I had was the best dish I had in 2 weeks in Crete, and the lemon tart could have been my mums.High praise indeed.

During a week in Vamos in early May we went to Chasomeri (which means 'a waste of time ' in Greek ) several times. It only opened in October 2013 in the old neighbourhood. it looks nothing from outside but the food is excellent . Its menu is short and different to the usual taverna menu. Pork with Plums, lamb with aubergine sauce, and imam bayaldi, were all delicious. Even the green salad with walnuts and sesame crunch was special. best of all was Evgania's lemon tart which was made daily and given to all diners with a glass of raki. Dimitris is an attentive and friendly host who made us very welcome.Dinners cost less than 30 euros for 2 including drinks and lunch was around 16 euros for 2.
