“All Crete has to offer in one place, peacefull bliss.”
Reviewed September 18, 2009

We arrived 1st September to beautiful sunshine, the hire car already and waiting for us at Chania and the drive to Arosmari via the INKA supermarket, which is a really good place to stop and get your gin and tonics!!!! oh and of course any food you may need. The drive was good no problems as Simpson travel had given us superb directions. We arrived to a lovely warm welcome from Nikos and a very welcome glass of fresh orange juice. Nikos showed us around the wonderful grounds and then our cottage which was a beautifully renovated Cretan cottage with all we needed and a welcome pack which consisted of wine and other things but the wine was the important thing!! Our first week was wonderful, brilliant sunshine everyday, with Ruby 's beautiful display of breakfast goodies setting us up for the day.Our first week consisted of us doing nothing more than lounging by the pool walking into Vamos for our evening meal and then relaxing on one of our two balconies at night to watch the sun go down behind the White mountains. Our second week the weather changed somewhat, the locals told us it was unheard of to get so much rain in September but this didnot spoil our holiday. We decided to explore some nearby villages, Kalyves was a nice place, Georgeopolis also a lovely village and Chania's old town and harbour lovely. We had great days, food, and "liquid" stops in all three. The weather did improve and we once again did no more than lounge around the pool. The whole idea of us choosing Arosmari was for much needed R&R and we got this in heaps. In summary Arosmari and Vamos, apart from beaches, had everything you could wish for to experience the real Crete.

I totally agree with the other description on trip advisor, nothing was too much trouble. If you need to de-stress completely this is the place to do it. The idyllic rural setting is completed by the daily goat run pass the cottages and you don’t need a watch or clock as the local church bell chimes the hour and half hour.
The Taverna’s are about a five minute walk away and one in the square In the middle on the right was really inexpensive and the food all freshly made and delicious, but it’s advisable to tell the owner Pano if you are eating there and he will make sure he saves his specials. They have a local co-operative where they sell all locally made produce and wines, it is well worth a visit and it is situated next to the art cafe.
Another must is a visit to the local bakery where they have the most wonderful selection of bread and pies.
We drove to Falasarna which had the most beautiful sandy beach and very safe bathing and we ate a delicious lunch at a taverna overlooking the bay.
I wanted a traditional Greek holiday and I certainly got this at Arosmari Village Retreat.
This holiday totally exceeded my expectations and I shall certainly be going back.

Arosmari is a small collection collection of one and two bedroomed restored cottages in Vamos, Crete, about ten minutes from the coast.
The shared grounds are beautiful with a small church, reading room, pool and plenty of trees, shrubs and greenery. There are plenty of sunbeds and chairs and always shade available from unbrellas and linen awnings.
The owner, Nikos, is very friendly and helpful and is rightfully proud of his resort. Ruby, who helps and prepares wonderful breakfasts, is delightful.
The cottages have private patios and gardens and the two bedroomed properties have large first floor balconies with wonderful views of the white mountains.
A very relaxing place to stay.
