Just back from a lovely week in Crete Simpson Travel excellent We stayed in Arugula the biggest villa....excellent accomm everything has been thought of hair dryer, safe ,bath robe slippers, beach towels umbrellas. Quiet stunning location lovely views of the White Mountains Super pool and wonderful gardens...... Nico the owner friendly and welcoming Trish the rep has lived there for 10 years so friendly, kind and helpful Ruby and Lena serve breakfast lovely preserves, bread, cakes, pancakes and any type of egg.............would have liked more fresh fruit. The bacon and sausage should be ditched not something they do well in Crete. Two good tavernas in village, excellent cake shop and bakery Good kind friendly people.
Road signs are rubbish in Crete but roads are quiet as petrol is 25p a litre more there. Visit the wonderful Botanical Gardens and Lake Kounass and go shopping in the leather lanes in Chania good leather goods and sandals

Don't ask directions in local villages as little English is spoken and many seem unaware of the monastries and Venetian ruins on the doorstep Will go back a week wasn't long enough!

Room Tip: Book Arugula

Wonderful and breathtaking, feelings that came to both my wife and myself on seeing Arosmari Village Retreat on our arrival.
The beautiful garden walk together with the rest areas and poolside cannot easily be described in words but have to be seen to appreciated in full.
The cottage we stayed in complemented the overall feeling of staying in a beautiful hotel set within an authentic Cretan village. The staff were very pleasantly welcoming and helpful which which added to our overall enjoyment of our stay.
Vamos is a quiet village but has many tavernas where you can experiance lovely local food and entertainment.
My wife and I would easily recommend this retreat for a wonderful holiday experience.

Booked this last minute (4 days prior to travelling) with Simpsons. Have never used them before but came highly recommended. We felt confident from the moment we came off the phone with Belinda who managed the booking.
Met by Ray the local Simpsons rep as we walked out of customs at Chania. Effortless arrangements for the included hire car (huge queues at the other rental offices) and we were on our way within 15 mins of arrival.
Beautiful apartment over 3 floors with great views to the white mountains. excellent welcome pack waiting for us. Communal area perfect - relaxed pool - simple honesty bar and great breakfasts courtesy of Ruby.
Vamos is a lovely traditional village with a superb tourist office - use it if you go here. great bakery, deli and tavernas. We did the cooking course which was a great evening with lovely people. hire car meant we could explore - drove over 600km in the week - the views and villages on the way were stunning as were the destinations esp on the south coast - Swimming in Loutro or Elephonisis a must.
Stunning service from Trish the local rep to Vamos and from Simpsons overall. Great apartment and service from Nicos and his team. Very personal but never intrusive. Would highly recommend.

We stayed in the largest property, Arugula, which was somewhat self-indulgent as it was just the two of us, but still, the view from the terrace justified the slightly higher cost - well, and the three bathrooms too. Very pleasant pool, never overcrowded while we were there, and a thoroughly pleasant atmosphere. We were a little more critical of the village itself than other reviewers: authentic it certainly is, but as they are aiming to develop tourism as a revenue earner, maybe a few concessions to northern European sensibilities over street cleaning etc. This is a bit of a quibble though, the people are hugely welcoming, and the taverna Bloumosfi, the first you come to walking from Arosmari, is really very good. Full marks to the Simpson travel rep, very knowledgeable, and his directions for easy parking in Chania (we've been before, it's a nightmare if you don't know where you're going) were spot on.

Stayed at the Arosmari Village Retreat in August and had a thoroughly good time Nicos and his mum make everyone extremely welcome and the facilities are second to none. The retreat has a lovely atmosphere although it should be noted that during school holidays children will be present around the pool they are usually well behaved but can be very noisy.
Ruby always put on a delicious breakfast which is served Buffy style and consists of lots of local produce including Figs and assorted fruits there is also eggs bacon sausage and toast ,so something for everyone I’d say .
The rep is possibly the best we have ever had she has a good knowledge of the island and can save you loads of time by recommending beaches and other interesting excursions. She also makes you feel that she really cares whether or not you enjoye your holiday and sorted out one minor problem that we had in a jiffy and with a smile!
All in all we had a great time and would definitely recommend Arosmari Village Retreat to friends and family

Our second time at the Village Retreat, as expected, met all our expectations. Comfortable and tastefully furnished cottage - great breakfasts - lovely pool and surrounds. Simpson rep. was very knowledgeable and informative. Nicos (the owner) and his mother were extraordinarily hospitable - nothing was to much trouble.

We arrived at Arosmari Retreat for the first time 2 weeks ago, first time in Crete and on holiday with our son of 20 who has special needs. We were unsure what to expect with so many brochures taking photos that are not quite what you find but happily Simpsons had shown it just as it is.
Beautiful village stone houses restored with real character, wonderful balcony with a view of the pool and the mountains, but secluded so that you could sit up there with out being overlooked. We stayed in Rosemary cottage and it truly was just as it was described.
Nikos met us on arrival and Ruby gave us wonderful fresh orange juice to sit and relax in the reading room looking out on the beautiful pool.
The surrounding of the retreat is wonderful and tranquil. We had times where we shared the pool with toddlers and young children and couples and always people were considerate of each other.
Most people made us feel welcome and there was always a polite good morning each day at Breakfast. Ruby produced an amazing breakfast each day with so much choice that our son did not know quite when to stop.
Each day we had our beds made and the rooms cleaned and bedding changed every 3/4 days.
The houses were well equipped for self catering which we did at times but there were so many wonderful tavernas to choose that were not expensive that we did not cook very often.
I would recommend the boat trip from Kissomos to Balos, the drive to Hors Skafion and the boat to Loutra, the drive to Elifonisi is definitely worth it, go the mountain way one way and the coastal route back, stop off at the cave on the mountain route as it is worth it.
Nikos made us very welcome and arranged a village festival at the retreat for Assumption Day which we were all welcome to attend which was amazing to see.
I would fully recommend this accomodation for families and couples.

Room Tip: Rosemary and Thyme cottage are very good as they are detached and have a lovely large balcony which...
