“Beautiful hotel”
Reviewed November 18, 2011

Situated in beautiful gardens and surroundings , the Hotel Pasiphae is an ideal hotel for a quiet relaxing holiday. Within easy walking distance of the beach and the village of Skala Kallonis. The hotel was advertised by Thompsons as a child free hotel, but beware !! It is not. The swimming pool is large and clean and the grounds are well kept. The breakfast was adequate for a greek breakfast. Nothing fancy but good enough. The rooms are basic but very clean and comfortable with a fridge which is a nice touch. The drinks at the hotel bar were quite expensive so after the first night did`nt use the bar much. We hired bikes to see the surrounding area as it is quite flat. They can be hired in the village for a small fee. We also hired a car to go further afield and to see the rest of Lesvos. It is such a beautiful, diverse island very different on west side and east side. The island is as Greece used to be 20 years ago. Un- commercialised and unspoiled. A very quiet and relaxing type of holiday.

Lovely hotel in a rural setting and spacious gardens. It was super and our only problems, because of immobility as oldies, were minor. The three steps without rails inside the hotel; the full 300 metres, flat walk (from all the hotels) to the nearest shops, cafes etc; there is no bus service after 15 September, but the hotel will get taxis, and, when our tour operator could not fix car hire for us as over 75s, thanks to the hotel we got it from a good local firm.
Our room (203) was spacious and very well equipped and cleaned; good storage, masses of hot water, regular clean linen and the bonus of fly screens on the windows. Our balcony was completely private, at the back, north facing so cool; it overlooked fields and mountains through eucalyptus trees; we could hear sheep/goat bells, and cocks crowed in the distance.
Bathing at flat Skala Beach was, though blue flag, not for us, but the beautiful hotel pool had plenty of upright chairs as well as loungers, and a very well run bar through the day into the evening. Breakfast suited us fine and although unfortunately from 15 September dinner was no longer available, lunches were excellent, as was the barbecue they served one evening.
Skala Kalloni is a working fishing village with a few shops and mini markets (NB no bank or pharmacy) but plenty of tavernas and cafes. Almost always the food and wine ('open' red, drunk cold) was excellent, and very fairly priced. The dogs and cats don't pester if you don't feed them and, if you hate to think of them starving come the winter subscribe, as most of the locals do, to the animal hospital and their project to bring in vets to neuter them.
We loved Lesbos, and their approach to tourism, and in particular the Pasiphae Hotel, to which you will be able to get in 2012 with Cooks.

Room Tip: Rooms face in various directions, so say whether you want sun or shade.

Lovely hotel. Came here on the basis that there were no children but that was probably just another lie by Thomson rather than the hotel. They are pulling out of Levos 2012 good riddance. Really helpful people who run this place. The village itself has not really got its mind round tourism which is in line with the island's half hearted approach. Listen to birds singing all day but dogs barking all night and in many if the eating places you can compete with the dogs and cats over your food. Its a shame but thats Greece for you. Anyway do not be put off by this review. This place will only be visited by twitchers in a few years and if I was a twitcher there is no better place to stay.

We stayed here for two weeks. The hotel is very well run, Vassilis, the owner sets a friendly and relaxed tone. The staff were helpful and considerate nothing was too much trouble for them. The rooms are well kept and give exactly what you would expect.
The pool is also very well managed and run. Agreed, the loungers are uncomfortable but the good news is that they are being replaced and are already on order. The owners listen to the responses of their clients and want holidaymakers to have an enjoyable and stress free break. It certainly worked for us. There are dogs on the island, taverna owners were responsive to their customers in keeping them away from tables if you wanted it. Some people wanted to feed the animals. (Something we did not and would not do!)
Great holiday, brilliant island, marvellous hotel. We had a very good holiday at this hotel.

Nothing was too much trouble for the hotel staff, we had a problem with the power (a fuse had blown) at 11.30pm and it was fixed within minutes. Pity that Thompson/First Choice are not revisiting the Island next year. The resort is very unspoilt and all the local people are very friendly.

This hotel is NOT adult only as advertised in the Thomson brochure and also on the booking confirmation. At the time we needed a quiet, chill out 2 weeks and one of the main attractions for us booking this hotel was "this accommodation is exclusively for adults and does not allow bookings with children under 16". Do not be fooled into thinking this is the case. On our first day around the pool there was agroup of approx. eight 9 - 14 year olds and at least one other family with 2 young children. The Thomson holiday rep Paula failed to turn for the welcome meeting on at least 3 occasions so we eventually managed to contact another rep ( James) whose only concern was reading the small terms & conditions and pointed out that " Thomson do not take bookings from people with children under 16 but other tour operators who use this hotel may do so "

By enlarge the hotel and holiday in general was good. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Considering the price we paid the room was adequate and clean.

The resort is small and quiet but there are enough restaurants to eat somewhere different each night.

To start with our reservations, we didn't appreciate the number of dogs roaming freely in and out of the tavernas. Is this because Lesbos is so close to the Turkish mainland, were this is more common. Our other major reservation, and this time about the hotel pasiphae, is the swimming pool. As others have said the sunloungers must be about the most uncomfortable in Greece as well as now suffering from plastic fatigue so that most days one or more would break. But more important (and dangerous) is that one of the ladders into the pool is broken and the other only has two steps, the top of which is too low down into the water for those with stiff knees to safely exit from the pool. I see that some of these complaints have been mentioned over the previous years and wonder why nothing has been done to rectify them. Small wonder, I feel, that the pool bar was unvisited in our time there.

Now to the good stuff. The hotel is lovely, clean, surrounded by very pretty peaceful gardens, the staff are all friendly and helpful, and the food is good and plentiful. The showers were the usual Greek version of a wet room but the water was always hot.

Skala Kalloni itself is like Greece was 30 years ago, with virtually no touristic tat, very good food and really friendly and helpful local residents. Plus a simply wonderful beach which more than made up for the poor hotel pool.

Go now if you want to see some Real Greece before it all becomes uniform.
