“Great early deals.”
Reviewed May 31, 2009

I thought the deal we got was unmissable ( we used dealchecker.com)
The hotel looked clean and fresh.
Service on arrival is very slow.
The business of hotel stars now, I have worked in five star accomodation, I have work in the tourist industry for many years as a chef and rep, this hotel is not a five star hotel.
The location is amazing and the hotel facillities are good, but they do not offer the service of a five star, getting your own water and wine is not five star belive me!
At dinner if you are not careful you will find waitresses clearing away you drinks and table while you get up for more food from the buffet, whch again is not five star stanard.
The food at the buffet is well prepared and caters for a western european palet, but simply isnt greek enough for my taste while on a greek island. The only bad part of the buffet food standards was dessert, always a disapointment, its seems as it was thrown in as a last minute thought.
The al la carte resturant ,its great they give one free night for all inclusive packages ( i was all in) But how they can call this al la carte i dont know, I have eaten al la carte many times and this simply is no where near the mark, 1 all meat and fish on the menu is froozen, the food is simply not good, the food in the buffet is actually to a higher stanard.
If only the hotrel would let you choose a free nmeal in the sushi resturant instead.
The sushi resturant is great.
The pool area and bar is the best part of the hotel, its great for chilling out during the day and for drinks at night easyliy the best part of the hotel. ( be prepaered for usual sun worshipers nicking the sun beds at 7 in the morning)
I adivise anyone to go as long as they only pay three star prices and dont expect wonders from the staff.
Summary three star everything apart from the views and location which are spectacular.
You must walk the donkey trail to the far left side of the beach.

Aquis, Marketing Manager at Mayor La Grotta Verde Grand Resort, responded to this review, June 3, 2009
Thank you for reviewing Aquis Agios Gordios Beach Hotel. We are very glad to be rated by experienced travellers and find our hotel clean, fresh and the location of our property and views spectacular. Please feel free to visit our website (since we are not allowed to post our url here please search our name and you will definitely find it), to check yourself that we are a 4* property but several tour operators have given us five out of their own rating, and although we are very happy about it, we believe that apparently confuses the guest. We would like to apologize for slow check in procedure; we always try to do our best and it seems that we missed something that day. Since you have been working in the tourism industry for so long, we are sure you know all the factors associated with check in and occasions that might cause delays in procedures sometimes.

It is not very clear to me why you had to bring your own water and wine since both are offered on our all inclusive, I assume you mean in your room. We do provide mini fridge on all rooms for guest’s comfort, however we do not advertise mini bar since our all inclusive bars are offering beverages, wine and spirits all day long. We are very proud about the pool area offering comfort and relaxation while enjoy the sun or sunset and this is a major part of what our guests are looking for. The comments you have raised about the food will be certainly looked at and assure you that all issues are thoroughly addressed internally with our F&B Manager. We are constantly monitoring our performance against the high service and standards indicative of Aquis Hotels and Resorts and we will insure these areas are restored to approve upon these concerns for future guests. We have already introduced a ten Euros allowance per person for visitors enjoying Sushi and we believe this will be a motivation as well for those that have never try it before. Frozen meat on the a la carte is only where indicated by an asterisk on the menu and not all meat and fish are frozen, we will work on making this note more explanatory.

We thank you for your detailed review and we will be glad to see you again in any Aquis property.

If you are looking for a restful location in a beautiful part of Corfu, this is for you. Recently refurbished to a very high standard, the hotel is kept in a very clean condition. However, watch out for the showers which have replaced the bath, no curtain or screen so water goes absolutely everywhere! All of the front line staff were excellent, look out especialy for Tonia round the pool bar, great worker and very helpful to all guests. However, managers appear to swan around looking important [with clip board] but doing nothing!

We were visiting this hotel for a second time (first time was last July 2008 and we were not satisified totally with it) and it was totally renovated, although a lot of staff is the same (and it makes a big adventage of this hotel, as all Greeks working there are extremely sympathetic). Also, as coming guests, we were offered a special treatment (extra massage treatment in very good hotel spa which we highly recommend!).

The hotel has stunning view and beautifully situated pool, but a little small. Next to the pool there is a pool bar with sympathetic Polish and Greek staff - drinks are expensive, so we would recommend the all inclusive package which covers 6 different kind of drinks including tequilla sunrice and cuba libre, as well as wine and beer.

The restaurant is nice, with pastell coloured walls, although breakfasts are the same all days, as well as lunches and dinners are quite similar but very tasty!
We would recommend to try Greek dishes there!

The a la carte resto is fine, but prices extremely high! Try the prawn toast if you have all inclusive package!

The village of Agios Gordios is very sympathetic, with nice sandy (with small pebbles) beach and some good tavernas by the sea!

We highly recommend this hotel, as a quiet and comfortable to stay in and relax!

Disadventages:
- steep stairs to the beach,
- all day long the same music by the pool and in restos!

My husband and I recently spent a week at the Aquis, originally having booked for Half Board. As soon as we saw the prices for drinks, Pool Bar lunches etc. we quickly upgraded to All Inclusive. This should really be called 'Part Inclusive' as not all drinks, cocktails or Pool Bar food are included. The refurb of the Hotel is very evident - everything is bright. modern and spotlessly clean, and the beds were very comfortable. When we arrived we were given a Suite in one of the blocks outside of the main building, for which I believe the rates are higher, although we specifically requested a high room in the main hotel. The walk to our suite - it being one of those furthest away - was really hilly and arduous, particularly for my 71 years old husband and in the 30 degrees heat. If you forget anything when you go down to breakfast it has to stay forgotten! After 3 days of asking we were finally moved to the main block, and were perfectly happy with our room, except for the lack of drawer space. There was more than enough space to include a small chest of drawers - what do most people take on holiday but shorts, tee shirts etc., but there wasn't any specific place to keep them. Like most of the other Reviewers we were rarely able to bag a sunbed during our stay. The Hotel need to do something about this as because of the location and the long downhill walks to anywhere, most people tended to stay around the pool all day. The buffet food was of reasonable standard, but pretty samey every day, and didn't offer anything very awe- inspiring. Whoever dreamed up the idea of having a Sushi Bar ? We did not see one person in there during the whole week of our stay. Surely it would have been much nicer to have a really authentic Greek restaurant or is that too obvious? All in all we enjoyed our stay, the hotel position is superb, but a shuttle bus down to the the Village would have been much appreciated. The Staff were all very pleasant, friendly and hard working, but don't expect much in the way of evening entertainment as this is rather thin on the ground. I would recommend this Hotel for a peaceful break (nice not to have children running around), but be prepared to do some serious walking if you want to get down to the village. ps.....who decided to put telephones in the Bathrooms ?!?!

We had stayed at the Agios Gordios Hotel 15, 8 and 3 years ago respectively and had found it improved each time, the latter twice being under the Thomson Gold brand.
We had booked a year ago for May 2009, in the knowledge it was no longer a “Gold” , but otherwise expecting a similar, half-board experience.
Only days before travelling, we saw a new brochure edition, in which the hotel had changed ownership (now Aquis) and become all-inclusive. More worryingly, the customer food score had plummeted from 80%+ to 60%. Thomson had not advised any change, but, on calling them, offered a complimentary upgrade to all-inclusive. They would not comment upon the landslide in customer ratings, but review sites painted an awful picture of September/October 2008, although there were a couple of positive reviews for early 2009.
Imagine our delight on finding a totally refurbished, thoroughly modern and stylish hotel, completely unrecognizable from the comfortable, traditional décor of three years ago.
Everything is new, from top to bottom and it works very well. Many of the old staff have been retained, and supplemented by new faces, all of whom were friendly and attentive.
Our room was perfect and incorporated our requests of double bed and high floor. I think we were the first guests to use it. The individually-controlled air-con was efficient and almost silent (often a problem). We had a fridge, safe, fruit, flowers and wine and a perfect view of Agios Gordios bay from a completely non-overlooked balcony.
The buffet-style food was excellent and included some local specialities among the international cuisine. The air-conditioned dining room was well-spaced and airy, with an outside terrace. Wine by the carafe, beer and soft drinks were available, unlimited. Free choice seating worked well and tables were efficiently cleared.
The pool area has an extended decking for extra space and the sunbeds are quality hardwood types with good brollies. Although there were lots of them, “reserving” was a problem, with a dawn race for favoured spots, often, annoyingly, then not used all day.
The pool bar has been made a real focal point, open 10 am to 1.00 am. Each guest gets one complimentary visit to the a la carte per week and this was excellent nouvelle cuisine style with a personal touch.
A recently-constructed beach bar (not open but imminent) looks attractive, but will not be covered by the all-inclusive. There were a few guests, mainly traveling independently, who were not all-inclusive, who must really have been stung by the incredibly high list prices of drinks and food – our “Extras” total, written off to all-inclusive, for two of us for two weeks, was 1700 euros – and we are only modest drinkers! Even the local tavernas were very much pricier than three years ago, at about 60% of hotel prices for drinks and 30% for food.
I feel guilty to make any criticism at all, because all the hotel staff worked so hard to please us, but the entertainment was lacking. I think the animation team had only just formed and their offerings for both daytime activities and evening entertainment were Butlins’ stuff – perhaps they will improve. It didn’t bother us, but it should be better for an hotel of this class. The Greek dancing was entertaining & participative, and the Keyboard/Sax duo were good, but there was no encouragement to get guests up and dancing. The hotel also now has a Sushi Bar, but we never saw anybody in it.
The village of Agios Gordios has not changed in 15 years, and offers a good selection of restaurants, bars, small supermarkets, etc. The usually-perfect sandy beach had a lot of weed this year, but we are assured this is a freak seasonal thing and it mostly cleared whilst we were there. There are some beautiful walks, although they all start uphill!
There are three buses a day into Corfu town at 2 euros each way – about a 40 minute scenic trip. Good value against a taxi fare of 50 Euros each way (30 to the airport)
All in all, we had a brilliant holiday and will definitely go back to the “Ag Gord” in another 2-3 years.

this hotel is far superior to any i have stayed in. from the minute you walk into reception you are instantly impressed. the quality and finish of the hotel is luxury. the sunbeds around the pool area are luxury and the decking prevents and potential slips. the view is stunning and so are the sunsets.

food... excellent choice, excellent quality, breakfast has so much choice no one could possibly complain. you are entitled to one a la carte meal and i must say its impressive. I am very fussy when it comes to food as in it must be quality, and believe me it was.
A must is a visit to the sushi restaurant. the chefs are from japan and are fantastic. i had never tried sushi before and wasn't keen but wow, i am now addicted. the staff are amazing and so friendly, lovely people.

Rooms... beautiful, huge comfy bed, with lcd tv and a dvd player. the bathroom is luxury with some top quality lotions and potions. Mini fridge, plenty of storage and spectacular views.

The all inclusive is fantastic as they even offer an international branded spirit whatever you drink which no where in greece does. the bar staff are wonderful. everything with an asterix on the menu is included in the all inclusive.

Free Wi Fi throughout the whole hotel ...!!!!
All in all i would recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys excellent food, fantastic views and a 5* service. I cannot fault this hotel in any way and anyone who does needs to go and see someone!

This hotel really does live up to the high expectations we had before arriving! We have never gone all-inclusive before & I am vegetarian so was a little anxious. We booked for one week in may 2009 for our honeymoon & got a great deal too! We booked back in February & I emailed the hotel direct before booking, to ensure all the work would be finished as we knew it had been taken over & was having a big renovation. They got straight back to me & assured me, so we had no worries from then on.
On arrival, we had a bottle of chilled fizz, beautiful flowers, & a fruit platter in our room, which the hotel had arranged as a surprise as we were on honeymoon. A really lovely touch, which I'm sure you wouldn't get just anywhere. The view from our balcony was breath-taking & bought a tear to my eye! The room was absolutely stunning, extremely clean & well decorated etc. The hotel itself is very quiet & although we were one of the youngest couples there (mid-20's), we anticipated this when booking & is exactly why we booked for our honeymoon as we just wanted a quiet week to relax! It was perfect.
Every member of staff we came across was friendly & cheery, and really couldn't do enough for you. The all-inclusive package was fab, and the food was homemade & really delicious, there was a large selection for the 3 meals a day (even for a vegetarian!) & we didn't experience any queuing at mealtimes, even though the hotel was busy. All the food was always hot when we visited, and the staff were constantly bringing more out of anything running low. Drinks at both the lobby & pool bar was excellent too, with a large variety. I cannot understand why anyone would complain about not having tea/coffee in rooms - it is so easily available throughout the hotel! Take a travel kettle if it means that much......!
The evening entertainment was great, light-hearted & not too 'cheesy' is you know what I mean! The entertainment team were really good. The gym was fantastic & the guy there very helpful & attentive too.
There are steps down to the beach, but you can see from the photo of the hotel that it is set it steep mountain area, & it also does say on their website & with most tour operators.
We had the most perfect honeymoon, with truly no negatives at all! We have stayed in various 5* resorts before with business & this one definately deserves it's rating in our opinion. We have already recommended to others & my parents have booked for october! The best bits were the gorgeous food, the stunning views & sunsets, and the hotel & staff themselves - all in all a perfect week!!
We are looking forward to returning next May for our 1st wedding anniversary :))
