We are a young couple and we thought this hotel was fantastic value for an AI. The food was lovely and we eat out a lot at good restaurants. They swapped the buffet every second night to a speciality night. The best thing about this place is the staff... the bar staff, the reception and the gym staff were so lovely.
There is a few steps down to the beach but they are very low and this was very easy... the views are amazing. We hired a car and discovered corfu and the car hire guy was a great laugh and did a good deal.

Clientle is 95% over 50 so meant it was pretty pedestrian for entertainment but great for relaxing. Defnitely go down to the local tavernas in the town as they were lovely too.
There is some bagging of loungers, but to be honest there are plenty and there is no other solution to this problem... ps if there is a Q for the bar there is a roof bar open untill 11pm... not many people seemed to realise this... I got drinks without q'ing every time upstairs

If they wish to improve the hotel I would make these points.

1) open the gym before 10am... people who go would want to go before breakfast!

2) Change the supplier of fruit juice. Even concentrate orange juice tastes fine but this stuff is orange cordial... makes cocktails taste horrible.

3) Sushi pretty much is a young persons food (a generalisation but TRUE).... I know nobody over 50 that eats sushi with any regularity. So the sushi restaurant is empty... which in turn makes people like me who would have gone to the sushi restaurant not go... as I am dubious that the turnover of the fish is so low that the fish therefore isnt fresh daily. You simply dont eat at an empty sushi restaurant!

Turn it into a steakhouse... buy 100 different steaks and you would have a packed restaurant constantly!

overall... if you are thinking of booking you wont be dissapointed.

Just come back from a week in Agios Gordios, staying at the Aquis! lovely hotel, nice and peaceful and served a good variety of nice food! Rooms were clean and tidy so no complaints there. If you are looking for a lively hotel then this is not really the place to go, bit if you are looking for a nice relaxing getaway in beautiful surroundings then this is the place to go! We went prior to the peak season but can imagine the tavernas on the beach and in the town get quite lively in the summer months. Would definitely recommend this hotel and location.

Couldn't believe what i was reading in the previous review about it being only for Germans. Totally untrue, it was a good mix of a few european nations.
The welcome was very warm from Anneca and the other reception staff.
The rooms were clean and well maintained as was the pool area.
The food choices were excellent and well signed as to what you were being offered although presented in different ways to what you would get iin the UK.
That said I have to mention the excellent service from the staff and would like to say a big thanks to Tasos, Soula, Ioanna from the restaraunt, Sophia and Mixanʌs from the lounge bar. Yes It is very hilly there, but says this in the broucher, the beach was very clean compared to the uk beaches and the water was so, so clear. I would recommend this resort to anyone who is seeking a "child free" holiday. If you don't wish to meet other nationalities whilst in another European country can I suggest stay at home or maybe Benidorm would suit you, that's full of ignorant Brits.

Room Tip: Hotel room not bungalow, steep walks to later.

We stayed at the Aquis Agios Gordios Beach hotel for the first two weeks of May, travelling with Thomsons. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. In terms of value for money and considering the price we paid it is impossible to find fault with this hotel. It is well run, with friendly, hardworking staff. Our room was very comfortable, and had beautiful views. As advertised. the location of the hotel (it is basically built into a cliff) is not suitable for people with walking difficulties and as the lifts do not go to all floors you do need to be able to cope with stairs and with some quite steep slopes to be able to enjoy the location properly, especially if you are accommodated in the hotel bungalows, most of which are quite a distance from the main hotel. The walk to the village from the hotel entrance involves a couple of quite steep slopes but the walk via the beach is apart from the steps down to the beach, an easy one level walk, much of which can be done via a boardwalk. The majority of the guests at the hotel when we were there were in their 50s or 60s but there were guests of all ages. During the first week of our stay the guests were mainly British but during the second week the guests were about 50/50 British and German. The hotel is a Sensimar hotel which I believe is pretty much the German equivalent of a Thomson Gold hotel and the entertainment team and guest relations team are employed by Sensimar and therefore the entertainment is perhaps more to German holidaymaker taste than British. It is definitely aimed at the older guest. During our stay there was live music several times a week and Greek Dancing once a week. The best entertainment during our stay however was provided by the 21 fun filled ladies who were on a Hen Weekend!
Food – The food was typical 4* AI “International Cuisine” and there were themed nights several times a week. The food was always hot, and there was always plenty of it and plenty of choice. We enjoyed the food but we were disappointed that very little of the food served was traditional Greek food (other than on the once a week Greek Night). Overall though the food was good, we have had better but the food was above average for a 4* AI. When we booked the hotel website and also the Thomson website stated that guests could eat free at the Al a Carte restaurant one night per week of their stay but this was not the case. This change was clearly very recent as our Thomson Rep told us how to go about booking the Al a Carte during the welcome meeting and the hotel guide in our room also advertised it - but at some time during our stay the relevant paragraph in the hotel guide was tippexed out! We were slightly disappointed about this but as the menu for the Al a Carte was very limited didn’t bother to complain but some people who did complain were allowed the free upgrade. I imagine this change applies not just to this hotel but to all of the Aquis Group.
Drinks – Again the drinks were pretty much standard for a 4* AI in Europe. Bottled water was not included in the AI but was available in the hotel shop or if you wished you could refill bottles from the water machines in the bar or the restaurant. We found the drinks fine, other than there was not any decent fruit juice available at any time, not even at breakfast. All cocktails which contained orange juice simply tasted like undiluted orange squash but other cocktails were of a reasonable standard.
Room – Comfortable beds, clean and the air conditioning worked well. Limited TV channels in English and unexciting choice of DVDs in reception – if you want to watch TV take a couple of DVDs with you. Hairdryer in bathroom was very good (1200 watts) and basic toiletries (soap, shampoo, shower cap etc) were provided. Tea and Coffee making supplies were replenished in room. There was a bottle of water in fridge on arrival. Plenty of coat hangers and ample storage space for a two week holiday for two, if three to a room then both space and storage space would be a little cramped.
There is free WLAN in the hotel which also worked in our room, by the pool and even on the beach which I found very useful.
Staff – this hotel has exceptional staff. Service was, without fail, always with a smile, nothing was too much trouble. Even when treated very rudely by guests (there was a group of 6 British guests staying during our stay who were consistently shockingly rude) the staff kept smiling and tried their best to satisfy every guests needs. So hardworking, - excellent.
Sunbeds/Beach – There are not enough sun beds around the pool and the terraces and there is not sufficient space to add more, therefore there is the usual reserving of sun beds. Staff did make an effort to remove towels from reserved sun beds but this was haphazard and didn’t really work. The main problem is that the hotel has to charge for sun beds on the beach and people don’t want to pay, if the sun beds on the beach were free then there would likely be plenty available in the pool/terrace area. The beach was clean and there was no sign of any seaweed at all during our stay.
Village – Agios Gordios is very small, with just a few streets. It has a few supermarkets and souvenir shops and a good choice of tavernas/restaurants (some along the beach front) and a few bars. It was very quiet during our visit but I would imagine it gets a bit livelier in peak season. There is a very large, and very pink, backpackers hotel above the village. Buses to Corfu town were only 3 times a day during the first two weeks of May but get more frequent as the season progresses. You buy your tickets in the supermarket "GBs" next to the bus stop, 2.20 euro per person each way and the journey takes about 45 minutes.
Overall, I recommend this hotel if you are looking for a relaxing, chill out break with low key entertainment, nice food and beautiful surroundings and don’t mind a few stairs and slopes. This hotel definitely deserves its 4* status. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday but would be unlikely to return to this hotel as we have never yet returned anywhere – too many places to visit – but we would certainly consider another hotel in the Aquis Group if we could get a similar deal. In fact we have an Aquis hotel in Crete on our shortlist for next year!

Stayed 9th -16th May 2011.

Lovely clean and friendly hotel.....Would definitely come here again.
Staff very helpful and the hotel rooms are top class as is the choice of food.
The only slightly negative points are the usual early morning tussle for the sunbeds and the limited "entertainment" in the hotel.
The views from the hotel are fabulous, which everyone can enjoy, as all the rooms face the sea.
I would recommend hiring a car to see this beautiful island as we did.
Try Paleokastritsa for the cliffs & coves views and try a boat trip into the caves.

Room Tip: Try a top floor to get the best view.

This hotel has lovely hard working staff, fantastic sunsets and plenty of food. I would recommend it if you want a get away from it all holiday as we did. Having read approximately 6 books each in a week, we didnt do much other than relax on the sunbeds. Please do not be offended if you put towels on sunbeds early in the morning and still expect them to be there when you have had your leisurely breakfast. Rightly so, staff will remove them as it is simply NOT FAIR especially when they are empty until after lunch! Get a sunbed when you need it.
