“Santorini's best kept romantic secret!”
Reviewed August 26, 2010

I was lucky to have a friend who lives in Santorini who told me to stay at the Grand View as it was near her place. After I looked at the photos on the internet (and trust me the place looks exactly like the photos) I immediately booked it. It's in Megalochori which is perfect as it's about five or six minutes from the main capital Fira and five to six minutes the other way to Perissa Beach with all the beach bars - location PERFECT!

After visiting Fira I am so glad I didn't book anything there as it's too loud and too busy. A Greek family run the Grand View and anything you ask is never a problem. The breakfast is beautiful, Greek cakes, biscuits, eggs, bacon, spreads and honey to DIE FOR! yogurt, cereals, meats, coffee, a good selection, and eating looking over the caldera is just gorgeous!

Up the road you have bus stops, bakeries, take away food (Stathmos has some amazing Greek food) we used to buy and take to our room and have dinner watching the sunset.

If this hotel was in Fira you would be paying at least 250 euro a night but it is very afforable. I have stayed at five star resorts and they are never as clean as this place, they are always cleaning around the pool and the complex. The rooms are cleaned everyday and towels replaced, and not just wiped over the rooms SMELL clean when you arrive to the room.

We hired a moped to get around there's a bus stop close by as well - so it's easy to get around you just need to make time for the bus as it goes to other towns to pick up people but if you have time there's no problem.

The studios are gorgeous, and we also stayed in the honeymoon suite for two nights with the jacuzzi overlooking the caldera - just stunning! The bottom studios and balconies are by the pool which didn't bother us as we just jumped over and were in the pool within seconds, but there are balconies one up that are more private if you like that. The studios without balconies are also fine as you walk outside and there is a table and chair on a common balcony which is just as beautiful, in fact it's quite nice as it's higher than the bottom ones, so wherever you stay at this resort, you will love every room!

They also have free wifi - other hotels i've stayed at have it but the signal isn't strong, the Grand View have a strong signal.

Thanks Argiro, Anna and Sozo, and Valentina see you next year!

We stayed 4 nights in the Grand View Hotel in Megalochori on the island of Santorini in Greece during a longer trip. There were four of us, and we stayed in the Family Loft room of the hotel. No direct views of the caldera from the room, but 10 feet down the hallway leads you to a balcony view that is incredible.

The pool is medium size and great for afternoon breaks from the heat when you have smaller kids, such as our 9 and 10 year old children.

The room had a loft for the kids as advertised. Both kids complained about the bed comfort, and we had to ask for the twin beds provided for the adults to be joined. However, the resulting bed was pretty uncomfortable, and the bedding must be described as the low point of the Grand View. That said, the beds were good enough for us to have rest for 4 active days on Santorini. The bathroom was quite small with a shower in the European style designed to challenge you to leave without soaking the whole bathroom floor.

The breakfast was standard ingredients of cold cuts, boiled eggs, fruit, yogurt, breads, cereals. The food was higher quality than many places, and it was plentiful.

The view from the hotel was the most beautiful we've seen. We selected this hotel in part because of the view, pool, and price point combination. Many of the hotels in Oia or Fira have no real view and are typically more expensive.

The manager was very helpful at answering questions we had, and she provided a helpful list of phone numbers for restaurants and sites throughout the island. She was clearly providing objective info.

Megalochori is a quiet town without a tremendous to see, so you will likely want to move around the island. The bus between Perissa and Fira stops approximately 150 meters from the hotel, making it convenient. We rented a car, which proved to be very convenient for exploring. Santorini has many opportunities to go off the beaten path to find something unique.

Our stay at Grand View Hotel was excellent! The hotel arranged for us to be picked up at the airport and we were met by a very friendly bus driver. Upon arriving at the hotel we were greeted by Anna who was the owner/manager. She spoke very good English and was extremely welcoming and accommodating. Check in was a breeze and she helped us to our room, even offered to lift one of our heavy suitcases. As we walked to the room we were immediately taken aback by the breathtaking view.

The room was spacious and spotless. It was really comfortable and we felt at home. There was a bar fridge available for our use and though it was not stocked there was a large complimentary bottle of water. The air conditioner worked well, as well as the TV. There was a small private patio attached to our room with a little table and two chairs which looked out to the magnificent view. The bathroom was a good size, however the shower stall was on the small side and the shower head was hand held instead of wall mounted. That made it awkward to shampoo your hair, etc. Also, there was a small water heater tank in the bathroom that you had to put on 30 minutes before use. This also meant that the hot water only lasted about 2 minutes. The internet signal left much to be desired. It kept cutting out unless we used it on the patio outside the room.

The breakfast room also took advantage of the great views, with windows all the way around. There was also a large flat screen TV showing the news if you were interested. Breakfast was standard and simple. Hard boiled eggs, fresh bread, ham and cheese, jam, coffee, tea and juice were served every morning. A little more variety would have been nicer to be honest but it was sufficient. Of special note, we were also given a spectacular sponge cake, home made by Anna's mother every morning along with the most divine tasting greek honey. My fiance was immediately wooed.

Grand View hotel is not located in the main town of Fira, so to get around I would suggest renting a car (Anna got us a good price on a rental). However, don't let this deter you from the smaller town of Megalochori. When we visited Fira we noticed that all the hotels were really close together and in some cases practically on top of each other. The serenity of Grand View is what made it stand out for us.

With in walking distance there is a bakery that sells fresh bread every morning and other local treats. They also have a great selection of Gelato which is perfect for a hot Santorini day. The area is very traditional, i'd recommend exploring on foot as there is lots to see.

All in all this hotel was great and we will most definitely be back.

This hotel is situated high on the cliffs on the outskirts of Megalochori. In turn, this provides magnificent views, both towards Fira and also of Akrotiri toward the south. In terms of the island itself, its location is somewhat isolated.

Our double room was cosy, yet spacious, and superb value. The bathroom immaculate. Air-conditioning worked a treat, and we were even surprised with a small balcony and a somewhat obscured view toward the south. The shared balcony on the Caldera afforded the same brilliant views mentioned before.

The pool area and outdoor furniture was looking somewhat tired when we arrived, but the water was warm and clean.

Our interaction with the staff was passable, but no more.

Although we arrived by bus (from Fira), to get the most out of this hotel, it is probably a better idea to utilise taxis or hire a rental car, as it is not well serviced by the Santorini bus network. We payed about 10 Euro to town, and another 10 to get to Perissa beach, by taxi.

The town itself is quaint, and features some stunning architecture and panoramic views. There is a bakery at the bus stop at the north end of town that sells some of the best ice-cream going 'round that is walking distance from Grand View. Definately worth the walk. Also just to the south, a short walk along the road, is a restaurant that makes a grouse pizza.

well where do i start.
just to tell you i booked everything on line by mail and the ppl are very helpful and prompt in replying to ur emails. very good comunication.

it was absolutely amazing. we were there in peak season in agust 2008. the price was very reasonable for what we got. i could not find anything for less than 170 euro for this season and most places were terrible for that price. this on the other hand was extremely reasonable for august season. it has an amazing caldera view.

the hotel is quite a way from fira the main town of santorini but really if u rent a bike or small car which is a must it was only a 10 minute drive. one word of advice its better to stay a little way away from the busy town. town is a littel busy and noisy so if u looking for a quiet relaxing holiday. this is it.
if u go and look at there website the pictures are very acurate. what u see is what you get.

when we arrived at santorini airpor which we were quite late coz our flight was delayed by 2 hours there was some1 waiting for us with a sighn with our names on and drove us streight to the hotel. when we arrive at the hotel we were welcomed by a very nice little old man who was really friendly and helped us emediately he even carried my suitcase to the room. explained how everything works and told us everything we needed to know.
the 1st nite we were there we never had a car as we arrived in the evening. so we walked to this nearby villiage where there were very nice little restaurants but a little pricey as is the whole of greece but very nice food.
our room was a little small but never bothered us at all as we only used it to sleep. but very clean and room service cleans and make the beds everyday. the pool is amazing to u tan while looking at the caldera. what an amazing view.
the breakfast is also great not a huge selection of thing but very nice. the yogurt and honey and nuts did it for us and the yummy little croissants with a selection of cheeses and cold meats. there were other things to.

the staff is very friendly and helpfull and speak english so its easy to comunicate. the hotel rented us a car at our cost obviously. the rental company brought the car to us and then picked it up aferwards and even gave us a map and told us what to do and what not to do. u definatel need a car or bike to get around.

santorini is not a beach holiday as the beaches are black and dull. and when u walk into the water the bottom is hard rock and slimy and very slippery. so didnt enjoy the beach we spent most of the days at the pool which is a must. make sure ur hotel has a pool.

thing to do in santorini which is a must:
do the volcano trip. for me it was the most amazing day of our whole trip.
we booked through a travel agent in the town, there r different options. we did the afroditi trip. it takes you to all the nice beaches like red beach and white beach and take and takes you to all the places that u can only see from a boat. like the indians head, hot springs which u get to swim in a bit smelly coz of all the sulpher but a oe time experience and a hectic hike to the crator of the volcano. so put walking shoes when u go. not flip flops or heels.

another must is a trip to oia to see the sunset. its unbalievable. its almost as if u can touch it. it beautiful then take a walk through oia and see all the little white roofs and pathways. its amazing its like you in a postcard.

and ofcoarse you need to go to the main town fira and shop and walk around and go clubbing.
but santorini is definatel very romantic and everythin they say it is. but you cant stay more than 5 days. u can see a and do everything in just 3 days.

i could go on and on about amazing this place is. and ill definately be back one day.

IT WAS AMAZING.
