I visited Santorini again this year and stayed at the Grand View. I just love this place. The location, the tranqulity, the views, the peace and quiet. It's located close to Fira and the beaches and the rooms are not on top of each other like in Fira, Firostifani, and Imerovigli. It's also a bonus you don't have to climb many stairs. There is a bakery, shops and restaurants in the village and up the road at Stathmos Chris cooks some lovely home made Greek food I used to take home and watch the sunset. The staff are friendly and loved having breakfast over looking the caldera each morning. I could just lay by the pool and admire the view each day. The staff are friendly and inviting and the wifi is also a bonus. The rooms are so clean and unlike other places on the caldera you can open your doors and see the view. Other places I've stayed at on the caldera you can't see the view from your room. It's fantastic value for money. I will be back!

Room Tip: All rooms have lovely views!

This place is great value for money with a fantastic view of the caldera from the rooms, pool and breakfast room. You can walk into the historic village of Megalochori for dinner or just to see an older picturesque type of Santorini. An excellent bakery an mini mart are also within 10 minutes walk.

And when you want to be more touristy, it's only a 10 minute taxi ride to Thira or the red beach. All in all a great place especially if you want to mix a relaxing pool side holiday with some more touristy activity.

Reception and all staff were pleasant and helpful. The rooms are clean, if a little basic. But for that view, it doesn't matter! Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for a caldera view

My husband and I stayed here in May 2010, along with some friends, and enjoyed the exceptional views of the Santorini caldera. The rooms are by no means lush (hard beds and bare furnishings), but the hotel is perched right on the edge of the caldera and has amazing views that you could sit and drink in. The hotel sits on the outskirts of Megalochori, a charming village with fantastic restaurants and classic Santorini architecture. It's a taxi ride into Fira and the bus stop is just up the road from the hotel.

The owner was also so helpful. She helped us and our friends arrange scooters, a private catamaran ride, taxis when we needed to get to the airport, and was available to help us with any questions we had or recommendations for what to do. She provided recommendations on where to eat, things to do around the island and had personal contacts with vendors around the island that she trusted and could recommend. I was so grateful for her help with organizing outings and just to get her opinion on things.

The hotel also serves a breakfast every morning, including cereal, toast, traditional Greek yogurt and honey (to die for!), hard boiled eggs, cold cuts and more. I ate very well every morning and was so glad to start the day with a full (free) breakfast in my stomach before going out to explore the island,

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony

We stayed in Grand View for 3 nights and we had a lovely stay. The view is INCREDIBLE, the swimming pool is very cold and small. The room is the only that doesn't fits the hotel because is quite old and bad decorated. Anyway, we would stay in this hotel if we returned to Santorini, all because of the view. Megalochori is a little bit far from Parikia and Oia but you've to rent a car in Santorini so... that's not a problem. The breakfast is pretty good with a small selection of food. They could have better prices, I think is a little expensive. The staff is a family not very comunicative but always smiling. Thanks for all, we had an incredible holidays in the Greek Islands.

I was lucky to have a friend who lives in Santorini who told me to stay at the Grand View as it was near her place. After I looked at the photos on the internet (and trust me the place looks exactly like the photos) I immediately booked it. It's in Megalochori which is perfect as it's about five or six minutes from the main capital Fira and five to six minutes the other way to Perissa Beach with all the beach bars - location PERFECT!

After visiting Fira I am so glad I didn't book anything there as it's too loud and too busy. A Greek family run the Grand View and anything you ask is never a problem. The breakfast is beautiful, Greek cakes, biscuits, eggs, bacon, spreads and honey to DIE FOR! yogurt, cereals, meats, coffee, a good selection, and eating looking over the caldera is just gorgeous!

Up the road you have bus stops, bakeries, take away food (Stathmos has some amazing Greek food) we used to buy and take to our room and have dinner watching the sunset.

If this hotel was in Fira you would be paying at least 250 euro a night but it is very afforable. I have stayed at five star resorts and they are never as clean as this place, they are always cleaning around the pool and the complex. The rooms are cleaned everyday and towels replaced, and not just wiped over the rooms SMELL clean when you arrive to the room.

We hired a moped to get around there's a bus stop close by as well - so it's easy to get around you just need to make time for the bus as it goes to other towns to pick up people but if you have time there's no problem.

The studios are gorgeous, and we also stayed in the honeymoon suite for two nights with the jacuzzi overlooking the caldera - just stunning! The bottom studios and balconies are by the pool which didn't bother us as we just jumped over and were in the pool within seconds, but there are balconies one up that are more private if you like that. The studios without balconies are also fine as you walk outside and there is a table and chair on a common balcony which is just as beautiful, in fact it's quite nice as it's higher than the bottom ones, so wherever you stay at this resort, you will love every room!

They also have free wifi - other hotels i've stayed at have it but the signal isn't strong, the Grand View have a strong signal.

Thanks Argiro, Anna and Sozo, and Valentina see you next year!

We stayed 4 nights in the Grand View Hotel in Megalochori on the island of Santorini in Greece during a longer trip. There were four of us, and we stayed in the Family Loft room of the hotel. No direct views of the caldera from the room, but 10 feet down the hallway leads you to a balcony view that is incredible.

The pool is medium size and great for afternoon breaks from the heat when you have smaller kids, such as our 9 and 10 year old children.

The room had a loft for the kids as advertised. Both kids complained about the bed comfort, and we had to ask for the twin beds provided for the adults to be joined. However, the resulting bed was pretty uncomfortable, and the bedding must be described as the low point of the Grand View. That said, the beds were good enough for us to have rest for 4 active days on Santorini. The bathroom was quite small with a shower in the European style designed to challenge you to leave without soaking the whole bathroom floor.

The breakfast was standard ingredients of cold cuts, boiled eggs, fruit, yogurt, breads, cereals. The food was higher quality than many places, and it was plentiful.

The view from the hotel was the most beautiful we've seen. We selected this hotel in part because of the view, pool, and price point combination. Many of the hotels in Oia or Fira have no real view and are typically more expensive.

The manager was very helpful at answering questions we had, and she provided a helpful list of phone numbers for restaurants and sites throughout the island. She was clearly providing objective info.

Megalochori is a quiet town without a tremendous to see, so you will likely want to move around the island. The bus between Perissa and Fira stops approximately 150 meters from the hotel, making it convenient. We rented a car, which proved to be very convenient for exploring. Santorini has many opportunities to go off the beaten path to find something unique.
