This hotel comes highly recommended by me. Very clean, modern and quite impressive in terms of style, decor and finishes, compared to others in the area, from what I could gather. Very good pool, overlooking Turkey (5km away) and the sea. Hotels right in Molyvos tend to have either no pool or smaller ones. Very nice rooms, good bar/ terrace areas, brilliant staff, (especially reception and bar staff) friendly, courteous, helpful and respectful. We were in a large apartment/room overlooking the mountains and the sea and looking over to Turkey. Idyllic location - although some rooms lower down the hill (the hotel rooms/apartments are spread over a beautifully landscaped hillside) were smaller and might not have had such a great view as ours, nearly all I think had a similar view.

Rooms cleaned to a high standard every day, and towels changed, etc. Don't let the notice in the rooms stating "no food or beverages in room" put you off, there is a well stocked fridge bar (quite reasonably priced), a coffee machine, plates, cups, knives, forks, etc., and a small hob so they are sending a bit of a mixed message there but may be just down to translation - we had food and drink we brought in ourselves and no-one challenged us about that.

The only possible downsides for some I can think of were that it is a bit of a walk into Molyvos/Mithinma (they are the same place - so check out the reviews for the Sun Rise hotel in Mithinma too as they are reviews of the same hotel!). But the walk is interesting and pleasant (about 15-20 minutes) (you can go around the headland or along the road but beware the headland route is much longer, plus you might encounter the odd guard dog if you go off the beaten track but they are usually just a bit lonely and soft as anything if you stop to make a fuss of them) and there are buses (either paid or the hotel freebie) that go from just outside the hotel. Plus a taxi is fixed rate of 4 euros so thats really not bad and the hotel will ring one for you and it will be there in 2 minutes. The hotel bus and the local bus were not so frequent when we were there but that was because the season was winding down. Lesvos is very "greek" and tourism is strictly an April-October affair and Oct-April the olive harvesting and other local trades take over.

We stayed in October so at night the hotel bar/restaurant lacked atmosphere a bit as it was pretty quiet. Also that is just the luck of the draw a bit as many of the other guests were older due to a walking holiday party staying at the time, I am sure at other times the bar areas would be livelier, but who cares when you listen to sound of the trees, birds and the cicadas on your balcony? I wouldn't personally opt for half board or all inclusive as I prefer to have the variety of eating out in different places. We ate at the hotel on the first night (we chose the set buffet style menu which was laid on for half board guests) - food was fine, but slightly expensive at 18 euros a head, we thought. It's called he Sun Rise hotel for a reason - so if you want to see a fantastic sunset in all it's glory go to Molyvos in the evening- and the sun sets are beautiful there.

Molyvos and Lesvos themselves are beautiful and I really hope to return one day - if you are thinking of booking the Sun Rise or going to Lesvos, I urge you to go, I do not think you will regret it.

Great hotel, great weather, great pool, really friendly and helpfull staff, especially the young girl in pool bar. The room was on the top level of the complex which is built into the hillside, the balcony was a good size and what a view. only draw back watch out for the ants( they bite) Molyvos which has to be one of the most beutiful places in Greece is about 25 minutes walk and the most amazing harbour a further half mile or so. excellent restaurants, try the Octopus, great fresh fish? the Giros shops are great value and very tasty. Also really different was the open air cinema. Bus service handy only 1.40 Euros to anywhere, Petra only 15 minutes away which has a beach and more wonderful bars and eating places the best has to be teh Womens co-operative above the canteena, or up the street towards the church is the best giros shop in the world. Third time on Lesvos, we will be back. Hope mass tourism never gets a grip or am I just being selfish.

Our 17 days at Sunrise was fantastc.

Theofilis and his staff were more than accomodating.

We had a room at he top and yes on day one we thought -" how wll we cope with this climb" but let me tell you the view was more than worth te climb.

Waking up in the morning and walking out onto our balcony looking over the Aegean Sea towards Turkey was amazing. Our room was very comfortable, but yes the bed was firm.

We are not fans of buffets, so did not try this for dinner. The breakfast buffet was ok and the pool snack bar was wonderful - shame that couldn't be offered in the dining room.

Manilo was a fantastic Cocktail waiter, 17 days meant 17 dfferent cocktails all gladly photographed ( don't worry Manilo a copy is in the makng for you and I will post it soon)

We had a fantastic in house dining experience suggested by Charles - what a night, the food was out of this world and the staff could not do enough. it was a very pleasant experience - make sure you ask about this fine dining experience :)

We would not hestitate to recommend Sunrise and hope to one day return - we miss the relaxed atmosphere ad the wonderfully friendly staff..

Just back from a cloudless week in this great hotel – fantastic peaceful location for a week of unwinding in a real authentic Greek setting. Well appointed rooms with modern décor, maintained spotlessly clean all week and perhaps the best balcony view I’ve ever had. Mountains to the west meet the perfect azure Aegean with Turkey off in the distance. Given the hillside setting there are a number of steps so possibly not for the infirm, but otherwise not an issue. Achingly pretty Molyvos is a brisk 25 minute walk, the harbour another 10 minutes on from there which does wear a little thin, so made use of the shuttle bus for the return trip. There is no shuttle early evening time (hotel wants you to eat there!) but a local bus runs past the hotel.

Breakfast was plentiful and the elevated location overlooking the neighbouring olive field and Aegean absolutely perfect.

Only drawback is a phase of building works nearing completion directly above the pool – could’ve done without the noise and general interruption to the otherwise very relaxed pool ambience last week but it wouldn’t put me off visiting this year. The sprawling development of the hotel will however put the available facilities under real pressure next year, particularly the pool which isn’t big enough to sustain yet more rooms. Real shame, as the hotel is at risk of losing the essence of its medium sized appeal.

We stayed at Sunrise Hotel for the second time this July. The hotel had been refurbised over the winter and the rooms were of excellent quality. The staff were so attentive and friendly (without being in your face).

We would recommend Sunrise Hotel for its excellent views over te gulf towards Turkey, the only downside being it is 2.5km out of Molyvos, however the local buses are excellent and good value (1.40 euro July 2009, but for this you can go as far as Petra and beyond..)

The pool is superb and safe, again with fabulous views across the gulf. Pool snacks are good value and tasty.

Overall this is a quality 4* hotel, quiet and most relaxing.
