“What an amazing island!”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

The island of Patmos is so beautiful, that it makes it hard to focus on a specific hotel, when you stay on this holly place. Anyway, if I had to write about the hotel, I would describe its location as its strongest point. Groikos bay is astonishing. And now about the hotel itself...
The property is new and probably the best on the island, as the only five star. There are actually three wings, the central building with restaurant, bar and lobby, one wing with standard rooms and another with suites and villas. The rooms are large and there is daylight in the bathrooms. The decoration is modern and rather minimal in the lobby area. The restaurant, breakfast-dinner, is very good and prices in both restaurant and bar are normal. I liked the live saxophone music every night at the bar, steps from the tranquil sea. The hotel grounds are built up and the only free places are the parking area and the beach. At the end of the day, facilities are very good and equipment is adequate and gets improved day by day: there was not safe box in the room, but they placed one after requested, there were no umbrellas in the pool area, but they were placed later, there were not enough towels for the beach and we had to wait for a long till we get one, but at the end they ordered and received more etc.
What I really did not like was the service. Beach boy was kind but inadequate, most cleaning staff was rude, some waiters seemed to get really bored with their job and one of the receptionist pretended to smile and help but she never did actually. The worst of all is that when I asked the manager for late check out (because of inconvenient ferry schedules) I was requested to pay extra 50,00 euros. I had stayed in the hotel 9 nights and had paid about 2000 euros....I was really frustrated to hear that I had to pay for late heck out. I would prefer to hear that the hotel is full...

Patmos is your next stop to paradise if you like. A pilgrimage not to miss. My emotions mixed undescribed, visiting the apocalypse. Very difficult to express. To accompany the experience a perfect place to relax and love Patmos one of the only places on earth.

Grikos is a village in the most beautiful bay surrounded by wonderful scenery. The beach is sandy and it has a small harbor which is popular with the yachting community and you will often see super yachts moored in the bay. Grikos itself has a handful of tavernas but no village life or community as the village is primarily small hotels and studios.
Patmos Aktis dominates the beach as there is no space for any other buildings. I agree that in many respects it is a beautiful place to stay but (and there is a big but) it is not a 5 star hotel in the fullest sense and yet it can charge anything from Euro300 to Euro2,000 per night for a room. At the right price this is a brilliant place to stay and probably one of the best on Patmos but not at their standard rates, I paid between Euro80 and Euro100 including breakfast for 7 nights and I would be happy up to Euro200.
So where are the issues?, in many respects it seem to be poorly designed, whilst the beach is the signature feature they have a pool which is tucked out back and whilst it has sunbeds it does not offer any shade (no umbrellas) so it was never used in all the time I was there. In fact rooms on the ground floor surrounding the pool have absolutely no privacy from the swimmers in the pool. The buildings themselves are rather non descript concrete blocks, when you approach from the road its hard to believe its a hotel. The rooms have some silly design faults such as cupboards you cannot open because there is a hanging light in the way or wardrobes that cannot accommodate long items to the fact that in a so called 5 star hotel there was no room safe!. The staff whilst in many cases very willing appeared to be seasonal workers and not fully trained in their roles and particularly the bar staff were very publicly bickering with one another over what they should be doing. I was particularly disappointed with the hotel manager who was very anonymous and despite this being a people business not once acknowledged my existence nor that of any of the other clients that I saw in my 7 nights. The restaurant manager was excellent. There are many positives though, the rooms were very large, light and airy and well furnished with huge beds, excellent bed linen and pillows. The bathrooms were well fitted and had quality toweling and bathroom products. The breakfast and restaurant food was very good and the chef is very committed and has a lot of flair.
Its tough to put my finger on it because the hotel has many positives but also some contradictions, its in a great position and it has many of the necessary 5 star attributes but because of the deficiencies I experienced I would not be paying at the levels they demand though at the right price I would definitely return.

This was one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever been to. The position is idyllic, the service is second to none. I have never felt so valued as a guest, these people seriously want you to come back and we most certainly will.
The restaurant Apocalipsis is one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at. Modern Greek cuisine at it's best. We ate there the first night we arrived and were blown away! I actually said to our waiter that I did not expect to find such a restaurant in a resort on a Greek island!
Breakfast was fantastic. The orange juice was freshly sqeezed. Tea was loose leaf in a pot ! I can't get that in London! The variety of bread rolls that came out of the oven was amazing. One problem though, we ate too much!

We were there in May which was so quiet and relaxing and still warm enough to swim and lie on the beach. I have never been so pampered lying on a beach! An ice bucket with bottles of cold water next to you, and bowls of cold sliced up fruit appear just when you re feeling like something refreshing.
