“Perfect Holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

We stayed for 11 nights. The rooms are beautiful, the food was excellent, the bus stop is just outside and will take you all over the island for next to nothing. If you go just round the corner you can eat at one of the best places on the island: the Telisila. This is another hotel which we visited to eat and had some of the best food we have ever had abroad. I would stay in kontokali though and just visit this hotel to eat. Kontokali has it all: Watersports, private beach, infinity pool, and it is just a beautiful resort.

We went as a family of four and can not fault the hotel. We were very lucky as we had booked two adjoining rooms but were upgraded to a suite at no extra cost. This was a very generous gesture by staff for which we thank them. The beach is really nice with clear warm water and an extraordinary view. Sun loungers are provided and there are fish swimming around the rocks, great fun for all to watch. There are water sports facilities at the end of the jetty for residents. We went B & B as we enjoyed evening meals at either the Marina 9 ten minute walk) or Corfu Town ( a hair raising taxi ride, pretty much unregulated). Lunches at the beach restaurant were excellent. Spa was fun and not busy. Staff were extremley helpful and friendly and we had a really great holiday. Highly recommended.

All great facilities can be seen in photos and can be read in descriptions, the warm hospitality of the staff, however, you can only sense when you are closed to Kontokali people, including the friendly restaurant staff.

Our vacation in Kontokali was a success from beginning to end which seriously makes us consider returning next year or sometime in the future again. Extremely fantastic location, overlooking to harbour, truly great people offering quality service; we had initially booked a family bungalow garden view room but when we got there we were pleasantly surprised to see that we had been upgraded to a sea view - definitely worth doing that from the beginning next time. It offered spacious rooms, terrace overlooking to garden, 2 rooms with 1 matrimonial bed and 2 twin beds, perfect for a family with children.

Friendly personnel who speaks to you every time they meet you; plenty of sun beds on the beach; sandy beach perfect for children; courteous maids who clean up the room spotless every day; the place is really tidy and the gardens are kept clean and beautifully decorated with flowers.

The food is impeccable; so varied, so nicely layout, so good. We were slightly concerned that we would be feeding our 2 year old food which was not made by us - turns out she didn't have any problems, more so she enjoyed every single piece of it. We made friends and were surprised by the quality of few people during our stay there: Nikos, Yannis were just a couple of friends waiters - my daughter really had a crush on Nikos, by the way.

The place is great for both families with children and for couples who want to enjoy relaxing time. It's so big and well thought that some don't bother the others. We never went to the spa, as we could not leave our daughter, but that seemed like a great place. We actually went instead to the children's playground (oh, well!) which is small but nice (one suggestion I could make the Kontokali management is to rethink the opening hours for the playground; 10 - 12 and 15 - 17 is not so suitable for a child's sleeping/ eating hours).

The hotel also has evening entertainment (different each day) which is worth attending. Overall, it truly shows the management and the staff are committed to making the experience a perfect one.

One more thing that mattered in choosing Kontokali in the first place. When starting to plan our vacation, we were provided by our travel agency hotels in various islands. We came down to just 2 hotels on 2 different islands to pick from. I looked up Trip Advisor and saw that the manager of Kontokali was actually taking the time to answer to good and bad reviews. Which I found really nice. But what really made the difference was the fact that I wrote him telling him that we were planning our vacation and had couple of questions about his hotel, as we had to select out of the 2. Not only that his reply was quick and providing honest response, but he never once bad mouthed the other island or hotel; on the contrary, he gave us advice about both. Not something you see every day.

Fully recommend the hotel and the island at large. We've now spent our vacation in about 5 Greek Islands and we have to say that Corfu is the best we've seen so far.

We had a fantastic holiday, 3 couples for 10 days and have to say we could not fault the accommodation , very comfortable and very clean. Maids changed the sheets and the towels everyday. It was nice to receive complimentary water and bottle of wine especially as we arrived at 5am. All the staff from the night porter and receptionists, the waiting on staff and maids were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The pool was lovely and spotlessly clean, we used the free sun beds on the beach most days and it was nice having complimentary beach towels. The sea was lovely with just a few rocks at the edge.
We used the curtesy bus twice into Corfu town this is a great service.
The a la carte restaurant is a lovely treat and it was nice to be waited on so attentively , the food was really worth the extra cost. We would like to thank the customer relations lady for looking after us so well it was much appreciated.
The only suggestion we could make is to make the drinks in the bar slightly cheaper and then the lovely bar area would be buzzing we did find it to be a tad expensive and soon discovered cheaper bars in the village. Also just to the left of the beach is a little beach bar drinks a lot cheaper especially early evening pre getting ready to go out drinks.
We had 3 rooms all on 2 floor and had a lovely view of the harbour and we got the afternoon / evening sun on the balcony.

Room Tip: Room 209 was lovely with harbour view .

We were in a group of three couples and arrived in the early hours of the morning and were greeted with a smile. One of the couples room had not been cleaned and they were quickley shown to another room and offered a free meal for six in the a la carte restaurant even though thet didn't complain which was very generous. Our room (201) was right by reception which worried us at first but no problem in fact it was very handy, it was a garden room with a pretty view. There are always plenty of sunbeds to be found and the pool area and beach are perfect. Beach towels are always on offer so no real need to pack your own. They are returned at the end of the day and laundered fresh for the next day. Also towels in the room and bedding are changed everyday. The al la carte restaurant was very special staff were excellent we returned at the end of the holiday as we were treated do well. We were bed and breakfast and the breakfast was amazing, buffet style but so much to choose from, cooked breakfast , cereal, cheeses greek yog, honey, nuts the list id endless. We ate out most nights but there aren't many places to choose from but if you turn left at the end of the drive and walk for ten mins you will come to a handful of tavernas and the tellesella is superb. The bar was very quiet at night and drinks quite pricey but push the boat out and habe a champagne cocktail, very refreshing. Nothing is too much trouble for the stagg at kontakali bay and I now understand why people return, fabulous holiday.

Here’s an honest review of our 2013 stay at Kontokali.

Like many guests we have enjoyed Kontokali before, and rate it very high. Why? Many reasons including but not limited to its proximity to the airport (no long transfers here), the ease of getting to Corfu Town, the hotel food, the beach, the Spa, the views from the room and the best staff of any hotel I have ever been to for a summer holiday, and we are no spring chickens I can tell you.

This was our fourth stay here (but please note - not in as many years) and we met up with many fellow tourists we had met before from Germany, Russia and England. Having visited four times you would think we might be considered veterans – but no - not a bit of it, one German couple were making their THIRTEENTH trip and an English couple had treated the rest of their family to join them on their TWELVTH visit. At four visits we are mere tyros….

Nearly all reviews are influenced by the weather, so let me come clean. This year the first week was a bit too hot but that just meant we went to cool off in the Spa a bit earlier than usual and had the air conditioning up a notch or two from the normal as we got ready for dinner. Our second week was much more typical for the last fortnight in June, each morning the sun rose above Albania warming the morning air which by eight o’clock would be full of the promise of coming heat later in the day, the evenings were pleasantly warm with one exception as funnily enough we had one rather chilly evening (a little fresh was the waiter’s comment) – unfortunately this was the night that the hotel very kindly stood us dinner in their A la Carte Restaurant outdoors under a stunning awning with the glistening lights of Corfu Town in the distance, I should have packed a sweater.

I’ve already mentioned the location of the hotel being superb, it lies just twenty minutes from the airport and Corfu town and while we only took the bus into the town once this year we found the taxi service cheap (16 Euro), safe and reliable, we used our trusty hired moped for other trips into town – it really is not far at all. We really rate the Aegli restaurant in the Liston Building which claims to the oldest restaurant in Corfu town, I do not know whether that is true but it has to be one of the best value restaurants I know and while we only had dinner there a couple of times we popped in for coffee whenever we were in town, it’s a lovely place Corfu Town, lovely.

We were on half-board but took lunch quite a lot instead of the evening meal which meant we could get out and about. The hotel restaurant is where you do most of your interacting with the staff and as usual they were fabulous. Both my wife and I would like to make a special mention of the staff at Kontokali, they must see tens of thousands of people each year and yet we were amazed when we were recognized.

As for the food well, to be honest breakfast is a bit too much of a temptation but whatever your heart’s desire may be you can heap it on your plate. Dinner is a bit more cosmopolitan or pedestrian, but they do try very hard and mostly succeed catering to people from many many lands. Very unhelpfully each hotel room has a pair of highly inaccurate bathroom scales that seemed to get more and more wonky as your holiday progresses, it’s the funniest thing.

I could mention the Spa (good as ever), the new furnishings in the communal area, the welcome pack of wine and fruit, fabulous nights out at a restaurant perched high above Kommeno overlooking the magnificent bay only ten minutes form the hotel, late night drinks at the Gouvia Marina, shoals of fish seen while snorkelling, hiring a moped from Mr Spiros and Mr Spiros’s ever present wife in Kontokali Village, the wee restaurant at the end of the road which does a lovely lunch at reasonable rates; the Taverna Kerkyra I believe it is called, the wee shop next door which had been done up beautifully, the ever present Kontakali cats and their kittens hiding from the heat of the day under the boardwalk and coming out at night.

We thoroughly enjoyed our fourth stay at Kontokali, and while we may not return for a few years – we will return - please god do not let it change too much.
