“Great Location, Worked Out Better than hotels in Corfu Town”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

I booked my hotel at the last minute so I was not able to get something right in Corfu town as I was hoping, but this actually worked out better. I found Corfu town to be very touristy, noisy, crowded and not always clean. As others have mentioned, this was formerly a Hilton and is in a wonderful location on Kanoni Point, on a cliff overlooking the sea. There is a nice big pool and a funicular down to the private beach. The breakfast buffet was included in the rate and very generous selections of hot and cold items, eggs, bacon, pancakes, as well as meats, cheeses, yorgurt, fruit, cereal and bread. It is worth paying a little extra for a sea view room. Free wifi throughout.
The clientele tends to be older couples on package tours staying 1 or 2 weeks so this is not a real party place. There is a convenient bus every 20 minutes that picks up in front of the hotel for Corfu town and costs about 1.3 euros. There are also mini markets and a couple of restaurants just a few steps outside the front door. A taxi to/from the airport is about 15 euros.
I wasn't bothered by any noise from the airport but I will say the mattresses are firm and some of the decor needs an update. All in all, for the price, a good stay.

Room Tip: Worth it to ask for a room with a sea view, even if it costs a little more. The balconies on the up...

Just got back from spending 2 weeks at this hotel
Spacious hotel good choice food sometimes not too hot but this is fault of folks not covering food after themselves. Found the booze cheaper in the dining room than the bar, really think it should be same throughout hotel. Staff lovely in restaurant.
Room was nice but cleaners not very good, never hoovered or wiped the table for 2 weeks, lovely swimming pool and clean, pool staff very helpful and kept the area tidy , lift to beach was useful, plenty of local buses - go to local mini market for bus tickets 1.10 euro instead of 1.5 on bus and the older man in shop very helpful (sons bit miserable). Lovely views, I could only upgrade to lake view because I had a single room but the sea view rooms were much better and worth the extra. Now onto why I wouldn't go again - metres from airport so noise of planes was so loud and scary for me, hated it and be careful on the causeway scooters and bikes come across. Also no tourist information places on island so look on internet or library for maps, places of interest etc.

Room Tip: Take ear plugs

Located in Kanoni, it gives you an easy access to Corfu city and other points of interest (Pontikonisi, Achilleon palace,...).

Positive points:
- Wonderful view,
- Close to points of interest
- Direct access to a beautiful beach,
- Good pool,
- Friendly service during breakfast and dinner,
- Bus stop at the entrance of the hotel,
- Good selection of wines at good prices.

Negative Points:
- Airport not far, the frequent flights creates a noisy atmosphere,
- Rooms aren't clean very often,
- Reception is not really welcoming nor helpful,
- Basic food for lunch and dinner,
- Pool bar people aren't welcoming,
- The Pool is filled with sea water.

Advice: You ABSOLUTELY have to go to "Captain George" restaurant and bar in front of the hotel. The owner is very friendly and funny, he speaks a lot of langages and offers fresh fishes at very competitive price.

The clue is it used to be a Hilton....that was thirty years ago!!! If you want a hotel by the airport where the planes sound like they are in your bedroom or you are totally deaf, this is the hotel for you! Even with two sets of double glazing closed it makes little difference and flights do go through the night on many days of the week.

Your only option is to upgrade to a sea view on the other side of the hotel which is slightly better. Don't expect the Reception staff or the Reception Manager to be helpful as no doubt they have heard it all before and have every reason why its your fault not theirs! eg the Agent knew

The hotel itself is ok and you can see it was quite something in its day. Food is edible but nothing special. Nice views from the terrace in the restaurant. In the basement which has no windows is a long corridor which leads to a dark bar area and an old style modern bowling alley. Has rather unusual ammonia type odours down there. There is a nice external lift to the beach which is like a cable car with nice views, well worth a go or two!

It gave me a great opportunity to practice my Russian which surprised the many Russian guests as they tried to barge in front of you in the food queues.

The modern safes in the room are three euros a day, but you can use one behind reception with your own individual drawer for free which is great. There is no mini bar in the room as advertised its an empty fridge.

You will find lots of people with their computers in the public areas as internet wifi access is strong. The advertised in room wifi is at best temperamental and at worst doesn't work for large parts of the time. Dont bother complaining as they just say the engineer was here earlier and the Manager when she is called simply tells you its nothing to do with them and you haven't paid for it anyway!

The restaurant at breakfast its best to get there early to ensure you have a table thats set. A later arrival will find vast numbers of used tables littered with crockery with the staff standing around chattering aided by the Restaurant Manager who seems to do little but wander around and not speaking to anybody. The evening service is more on the ball with a different manager.

The advertised Starbucks doesn't exist that we could find!

Just out the escape gate at the end of the drive is the bus stop which has regular busses. You need the number 2 into town., Its a circular route. There is a fantastic bar and restaurant called Captain George if you turn left out of the gate just past the two shops. The food is fantastic coupled with the service and the owner speaks many languages with an excellent sense of humour plus very good assistants. Once you have been you will be back!

The pictures look very nice but please consider carefully the airport where the runway is literally meters away, although miles by road! We cannot share enough with you how this impacts your holiday.

Room Tip: Go for sea view not lake via aka Airport view!

Really enjoyed this holiday. Hotel is handy for Corfu town with buses every 20 mins. Lovely views from the hotel especially from upper floors and sea view a must. Food is more 4 star and is pretty basic. Dreadful soup and out of a packet. Hotel is large and meals are buffet style so a bit of a bun fight.

Room Tip: Best floor 4 and above and request quiet.

Stayed here April 2012 (not 2013), cannot remember the details of room etc think it may have needed updating but certainly the entrance to the hotel and lobby was quite nice and grand but did notice that many elderly people came here I think on organised trips from Germany perhaps? These were people in their 50s and 60s, well dressed and quite sweet really, dancing away with their partners in the evenings to the entertainment clearly designed for them. The pool area was nice so was the view out to sea, quite amazing sunset views, nice private little beach with cool lift that drops down. I believe this hotel is EX Hilton or ex one of the top brands. Restaurant fine, always something to eat, drinks not too expensive as we were Half Board. Local bus into town, not much more to do, went for 3 days, was nice warm weather, locals thought it was still winter walking around in leather jackets. Quite near the beach and hotel is a little old white chapel, lovely to see and walk around, about 5 mins from hotel.. Think there is a restaurant and starbucks too. Nice little break all in all. I just remembered the room had balcony and we could see the runway, it wasnt noisy or disturbing in fact was kind of cool plane watching!

Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking pool and sea as I imagine those would be best views.

The best advice I can give to anyone considering this hotel is to read the previous reviews and look at the photos very carefully. This hotel is not for everyone but does have some good points.

The location is right beside the airport and the noise from aircraft landing and taking off may well interrupt conversations occasionally during the day but we found that the rooms were well insulated. Our room faced the runway but we never found the noise overly disturbing. Those who prize total peace and quiet should steer well clear however. The hotel is 15 mins by bus (which runs every 20 mins) from Corfu town. The cost is €1.50 one way or €10 by taxi.

The hotel offers the usual facilities although many of them are now showing signs of ageing and the hotel would do well to inject some money into upgrading furnishings such as carpets and room TVs. This again didnt upset us too much as the place was clean but definitely dated. With regards to our room, it was big enough with a comfortable bed, the bathroom was clean but the extractor fan didnt work and the towels were clean but worn. The two big room plus points for us were a good wireless signal (we were located towards the centre of the hotel) and excellent air con. The pool area is clean and staff are diligent about keeping it tidy. Public areas of the hotel were kept well including the bar area which was a nice place to have a drink. The Ma Cocotte bar was particularly nice to have a drink in after dinner with great atmosphere and views.

We found the staff extremely pleasant and willing to engage in conversation and this made the stay very enjoyable.

The worst aspect of the hotel is mealtimes which are buffet style. Its not the buffet style per se but the manner in which the hotel handles busy nights and mornings. At these times all semblance of a restaurant disappears and its a crush. In particular staff seemed unable to clear and reset tables efficiently. It is hard to understand why management can't organise this. better as its a recurrent complaint in the hotels reviews. Twice in our weekly stay we opted to eat outside the hotel even though we went half board. However on the quieter nights in the hotel, when staff could cope with the numbers mealtimes could be quite pleasant.

Overall the stay was enjoyable but if we return to Corfu we would opt to stay at a different hotel.

Room Tip: rooms close to centre seem to have a better wireless signal
