We very much enjoyed our stay in Koutsounari on Crete, thanks to an outstanding stay at the Aroma Creta Hotel. Set on a hill facing the sea, among olive trees, the ideal location and excellent care by the staff -- tasty food every night and morning -- was the perfect way to experience the southeastern side of this Greek island.

We stayed at aroma end of August and enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and the super romantic scenery. The hotel is beautifully decorated and the staff is very friendly and interested to make your stay a pleasant experience. The pool is clean and refreshing, the view amazing and the food satisfactory. We really enjoyed the wine, too. The rooms are clean and the beds comfortable. Just the bathrooms need a bit of renovating, but they are fully functional. You can reach many beautiful beaches located in the area and go to Ierapetra for dinner or drinks, the main city of the district. You do need a car or motorbike though to move around.

The bad--TV was useless-no English news even. Bathroom was old, tub was peeling. In photos there were other rooms with modern showers--not ours. Also the back of the toilet seat kept falling down--annoying.

The good--Authentic Greek feel, lovely grounds and INCREDIBLE view! Patio on first floor and roof balcony off of upstairs/loft bedroom. Nice pool, but cold jacuzzi, so didn't ask for them to turn it on. Helpful girls at reception.

My family and I have just returned from the Aroma Creta Hotel and have nothing but good things to say. The hotel itself is in a quiet area so perfect if you want peace and quiet and a relaxing holiday. The hotel is up a steep slope but not too bad once you get used to it - it is not a long walk. The local beach is pebbly but nice and you don't get sand in your bits! The water is very clear and there are free sunbeds in front of one of the tavernas, not sure about the others, but there were always sunbeds available. There are a couple of supermarkets at the bottom of the slope so you can buy bottles of water very cheaply and anything else you might need. The hotel itself is very clean, and a bit like a mini village with rooms and apartments set out very prettily. Our apartment had a bedroom downstairs and a double bedroom upstairs, with a kitchen and large terrace area which was lovely to sit out in, with two bathrooms. The room is cleaned every couple of days - sometimes every day. Air-conditioning is good. We took a mini iron and hairdryer as these are not available in the room, as well as beach towels.
The food in the hotel is fantastic. I would stress that with two teenagers and an original desire on our part to eat in tavernas, we took the collective view that the food in the hotel was better than the tavernas and enabled us to experience real Greek cooking which was fresh and delicious. The dining area looks over the pool and is not crowded at all. The breakfast is the same - lots of fresh fruit, bacon, eggs, pastries and so on. All you could wish for. I am surprised this is only a 3* hotel as it is lovely. The staff were brilliant - all very friendly and can't do enough to make your stay a great one. A good example was when one guest took a huge plate of fresh figs and left none for anyone else - we asked for some more and a new plate was brought out to our table. Excellent service.
The pool area and gardens are beautiful and it is always easy to get a sunbed round the pool. My only slight warning would be that at the weekend and on our last day there was a large family - think they may have been locals - descended on the pool and took over - we didn't feel able to leave our sunbeds for fear we would lose them! this was only on one occasion so I would stress not something to worry about but something to note.
Overall a fabulous hotel and we hope to go back!

”It was a perfect vacation - beautiful family run hotel , located on a hill overlooking the sea , about 150 m from the beach . Excellent staff - kind and attentive . the swimming pool is a gem . Every corner in this hotel is well designed and well kept . Our room was clean and nice and comfortable with a balcony .Rich and fresh breakfast buffet . The area , Kousounari , is exciting and full of good tavernas - don't miss Pelagos- and the sea water are crystal clear
