Creta Suites

If you want to have your holidays in a traditional Cretan village (but with a swimming pool & bars) and to explore the authentic Crete, then this place is aboslutely what you are looking for!

Situated in the south of Crete you may experience the authenticity of the island and enjoy great food and local wines in very good quality and cheap prices (even cheaper than spain!). If you are spoiled and looking for 5 star luxury do not visit this place. It is for original Cretan life style only.

It was the second time we visit Crete my husband and I, (1st it was for our honeymoon) so we wanted something more traditional and more '"Cretan"' this time. So we chose Creta Suites and stayed in a suite apartment named Socrates, (All apartments in Creta Suites are named after ancient Greek personalities).

lovely people, good food , nice hospitality and we will go back again.

Interesting that the review before last (good) came from the next town.

If you want a quiet, out of the way place away from tourist areas – this is for you. Not for those who do not have a hire car or have difficulties with steps or hills.

Creta Suites Resort is set up on a mountainside. All face south and have a view overlooking the sea. We were in a one bedroomed apartment supposedly suitable for 4 people. The bedroom was a good size and the bed very comfortable. The lounge was small and it would be difficult to use the settee for an extra two people. The kitchen was dark, and you will need to bring a dish cloth, tea towel and sink plug as none are provided – neither is any washing up liquid or other cleaning materials! Bathroom is dark. Shower area basic and there is not a plentiful supply of hot water. It took us 3 days to try and get a lime scaled head changed so as we could have a shower rather than use the tap.

There is no information on the area either in the apartments or in the reception. You can pay for an hour on the internet or use your own computer to find where to go. Otherwise get prepared before your visit.

Can I suggest Mirtos (petty village east of Ierapetra) For a day out, start out by visiting Agios Nicholaos. Park down at the Marina for 3 euros a day. Look around the town. Go onto Elounda and then to Plakas where you can take the ferry to Spinalonga (Immortalised in Victoria Hislop’s “The Island” when it was a leper colony). Chrissi Island is also a place to visit. A boat taking about an hour from Ierapetra. Best to take some food supplies with you in case they run out over there. The best beach we found was at Istros on the road to Agios Nickolaos. Take a turning right just before or after the eucalyptus trees in the village.
The pool is good with a small pool for children. There are sunbeds around the pool though not much shade.

The restaurant has good food although far more expensive than the Tavernas around. There are three Tavernas outside the resort, We found the best one was Rodos, just a few metres down the road, where you are taken in to the kitchens to see what is on offer that day, Good service – a three course meal for 2 including wine about 23 euros

The information on the suites, I think, as well as many others who we talked to, must have been incorrectly translated or have poetic licence, Firstly it cannot be a 4 star resort, it is more like 2 stars. The village had only one stone lined street and certainly not "plumed with basil and other flowers". The restaurant although good is certainly not luxurious, The beach may be long but certainly not beautiful.

We couldn’t find the guests laundry, gym, children’s playground or club for "little friends"

More could be made of the resort. It is as though the management has lost interest

I believe RCI uses it as an "emergency" resort.

Creta Suites is a small complex that has great customer service. We started our honeymoon here and plan to move onto Santorini and Rhodes shortly but could not have asked for a better start to our honeymoon. If you are seeking modern facilities and HD Tv's, this may not be the place for you....however if you want to feel like you are in Greece and away from the typical US resort, this is the right place. Very simple, friendly staff....A special mention to the cook Emanuel......he made the trip!!! Felt like family with everyone around. This is definitely a place to return to if you enjoy the quiet getaway, the beach is not in walking distance however, it is not a far drive and there are options of private beaches if you're looking for a romantic break away! Loved Creta Suites. An earllier review stated you need to pay for internet, but there is wifi available....currently using it right now:)

Room Tip: they gave us the option of two different rooms upon our arrival, we chose the best view, a few stair...

This is a small village with many apartments and perfect especially for families. I stayed there with my 12 years old daughter and my friends with 4 children. The apartments had all the facilities for cooking, making cofee, ironing etc. Big balconies-we asked for connected ones- most of them with good view. The staff was polite and so was the manager. You can order Manolis at the restaurant what you want to eat in the evening or next day -he cooks great! You can also make everything on your own,if you are low budget....We found it at very good price on booking and my friends negotiated the price with the manager and we all got perfect prices, although the days were public holidays. The rooms were really clean. Do not expect the super modern furniture or high defination TV, equipment is perfect for its price and everything worked perfect. The internet is charged, but we found free wi-fi.The vilage is on mountain and you need a car to go to the sea,but the beach nearby is very clean and 5 minutes by car. Go to KAKUS BAY beach(turn left after koutsounari)-there is no wind even when it is windy

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near the piscine, there is noice.

Not very friendly service, poorly stocked pool bar, dirty apartment> The toilet has never seen bleach it was disgusting, Scum around the bath I could scrape with my nail. No hot water in the morning had to have a cold shower every day. Cockroach in the kitchen not what I would call a 4* at all. The bed was very very hard.

ATHENS - GREECE

We are from ATHENS - GREECE and we travel to CRETA SUITES in the june 2005. It was the first time we visit the south Crete.
The town of Ierapetra and the areas have many thinks to offer.
There is first of all a nice organized town, with a beautiful boulevard and some ancient places.
The city have a descent shopping center. Plenty of taverns. We visit Spinalonga on the north coast, Vai palm beach, Sitia town in the east and Agios Nikolaos in the north. Also we visit Monastery Toplou, Zakros, the ancient Minoan site and the valley of the deads, a super gorge. We reccomend the beach at Koutsounari and Makrygialos. Then we have a cruise to Chrissi Island, the best but most forgotten island of Greece. Golden sand beaches here. There's so much more but do you have enough days.
Creta Suites Hotel is nice and clean. Spacy rooms with a lot of facilities. The best view i had in my life and the air is very clean and healthy their. It was good for my asthma problem. The stuff was very friendly and the food was excellent. We reccomend the hotel for young people, couples, honeymooners, families with kids, active or adventure travelers.
We will go back again for sure.
