“Lovely hotel, if you request a sea view!”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

We stayed here for our honeymoon in June 2011 and were devastated to find when we arrived that they had double booked the luxury suite! We were lucky that they at least had a room with a sea view available for us as the views from the balcony were stunning. We knew Kalymnos well so knew that we were going to see some beautiful sunsets behind Telendos, and we weren't disappointed! The "sea" side of the hotel is very peaceful - you can go to sleep at night listening to the waves lapping up the beach. The "land" side is awful, unless you intend spending all night clubbing! It is noisey from all the bars and the constant beeping from mopeds travelling along the road. On the plus side, the location of the hotel is perfect for nights out and Kalymnos never seems to sleep so there is always plenty of entertainment and shops open. Breakfast at the hotel was pretty poor. You can probably survive it for a week, but we got sick of it during our 2 week stay. Bread, yoghurt, cereal and some very strange looking scrambled egg! The hotel is really clean and the staff are all very kind. The rooms all have air conditioning units, although there is an additional charge to hire the remote to actually turn the units on. The pool is pleasant and it's great to be able to lay by the pool but also only be a few metres away from the beach. There is also an onsite bar, although as with the rest of Kalymnos the prices are quite expensive for beer or cocktails. If you are coming to Kalymnos to climb then the Hotel is perfect. It's just below the (only?) via ferrata. You can see many of the crags from the hotel and there's plenty of parking for mopeds. The nearest crag is only about 20-30 minutes walk and there are a few cafes on the way where you can pick up a preordered roll. I think the Plaza is worth a visit but I personally would never want to rent a land view room. Have a good trip and take a printout of the booking confirmation in case you get double booked.

We stayed at the Plaza Hotel for two weeks in September 2012. We had a sea view room which was spacious and was kept very clean by the friendly staff. The view was superb and the sunsets spectacular. The pool and beach are on the doorstep. The pool area was cleaned every day and in fact had a deep clean one day involving moving all the sunbeds and setting up numerous tables to accommodate a big Greek wedding! Breakfasts were OK bread, cheese, yogurt, tinned peaches, honey, cereals etc but could have been organised much more efficiently as you frequently had to wait for crockery, cutlery and food to be refilled. One downside was that the hotel plumbing system caused foul fumes to regularly contaminate the air in the bathroom. The location is ideal in the centre of Massouri with shops, bars and restaurants and a ferry to the island of Telendos runs every 30 minutes until midnight from nearby Myrties. Overall the pros outweigh the cons. I would consider staying at the Plaza again but Olympics flight times are horrendous!

Room Tip: Sea view room on a high floor

I stayed here whilst on a climbing trip to Kalymnos and was very impressed by the hotel. The rooms were great, breakfast was perfect start to a big day out and the staff were extremely helpful. And having the option of a pool or the beach for a few steps further was fantastic.

It's in the heart of Massouri, so plenty of options for eating out (Aegean Tavern is excellent). I would stay here again for certain.

Room Tip: Sea view is probably a safer bet as the otherside of the hotel is opposite some bars which might dis...

A reasonably new hotel which by September had apparently hired more staff for the low season as there were three ladies doing the rooms. Sure breakfast is boring but covers the normal range of three or four different varieies of bread, several cheeses including feta, eggs scrambled or hard boiled, yoghourt, cereal etc - everything you would expect in a greek hotel. True the ambience is a little modern international hotel but in keeping are clean rooms, clean linen, ample hot water, a good pressure shower and working TV, WiFi and air conditioning (5 euros per day if not in package). The beach sadly is not part of the hotel and charges but the poolside sunbeds are free. The views are spectacular and whilst Telendos is amazing in the mornings rooms facing the road offer equally stunning views of the mountains so many people want to climb and the road noise is not disturbing whilst the "Rock Bar" across the road plays 60 - 70s music at a more pleasant volume than most shopping malls.
Most of the Tavernas offer good food at reasonable prices but we could not comment on the snack bars.
A good comfortable clean hotel with helpful staff and good access to the rest of the island - not ideal if you want quirky Greek rooms but if you are lookiing for a comfortable base ideal.

Room Tip: Roadside rooms are comfortable and not noisy with views of the hills, seaview rooms are premium pric...

We've just had a great fortnight at the Plaza, the room was kept very clean, the staff we're always helpful and pleasant. The pool and surrounding area was kept as clean as possible with people coming up from the beach with sandy feet and the view from our balcony over the sea to Telendos was second to none.Breakfast was fairly basic but quite a good choice and replenished frequently. We would stay at the Plaza again but would not travel with Olympic.

Room Tip: Always ask for a sea view room

We loved staying at Plaza for 2 weeks.
The room was nice, the view of Telendos was even better!
There was two weddings under our stay, and it was a great experience for us.
I see some complaines over the breakfast, but we thougth it was ok, and the greek youghurt with local honey was very good!

Room Tip: Room with seaview.

We were relieved to find the hotel was open at 3 am after ferry arrived at Pothia port and a taxi was available but crowded. Our seaview room was basic with minimal furniture. Hotel fixtures were poorly maintained generally. Breakfasts were basic with little variety. On one Saturday night guests had to endure a noisy wedding in the pool area, overlooking sea, which started at 10 pm and finished at 3.45 am. Also rooms not facing the sea would be noisy with road noise and early morning bars. There is a local bus from Massouri to Pothia port but a scooter or small car is a good option to get around island. There are some great places to eat at Massouri and the area has a nice vibe. The views from hotel to Telendos are wonderful. The tap water is hard and smelly on the island so bottled water is necessary.
