“Beautiful house in a fantastic location that is perfect for a family holiday.”

Our family (two adults, three children aged 16, 13 and 10) spent a week at this extremely lovely house. We could not have asked for it to have been better in any way. The house has been beautifully put together with so much care and attention to detail. The interior of the house is so comfortable, light and airy, with absolutely everything you might need during your stay. The garden is stunning with a number of different areas for sitting, eating and BBQ-ing. Best of all is the fact that the beach is just across from the garden and never too crowded. It makes the holiday so much easier not to have to plan before going to the beach or spend ages making sure you have everything you need with you. My children loved this particular beach best (good snorkelling, very calm in the morning with bigger waves in the afternoon) even though we went to others that would probably be considered more beautiful. The location is so convenient being near the airport and brilliantly placed for exploring the many many attractions of the region. And finally, I have to mention the house's wonderful owners, Chris and Sofia, who were so welcoming, friendly and generous. We all very much hope we will have the opportunity to return to Villa Sofia one day.

“Lovely villa, on beach, with beautiful garden”

We had a fantastic holiday staying this this gorgeous house. Christos and Sofia were excellent and friendly hosts, meeting us at the beginning to show us round and it was easy to get in touch with queries during our stay. The house is comfortable and spacious with lovely bedrooms and living area. The kitchen is well-appointed with lots of kitchen equipment such as dishwasher, toaster, plenty of plates and pans etc. What really stands out is the stunning garden. It is enormous, and beautifully designed with areas to eat and relax at different times of day. Christos and Sofia generously offer guests the opportunity to pick fruit and vegetables from their garden so we made meals with fresh aubergine, peppers and tomatoes and picked grapes straight from the vine! The house is less than a minute from the beach - incredible! One thing to note: the sea is calm in the morning but the waves get big in the afternoon so it's definitely good to get to the beach early. We had a wonderful, relaxing holiday and would recommend this lovely property. We didn't have a car but we could walk or cycle to Kanali village (30 minute walk or 10 minute cycle). The shops and restaurants are all good. There was also a pharmacy in the centre of the village. It would have been easier to get to sights and boat trips if we'd rented a car, but on this trip a week lazing on the beach and in the garden worked perfectly!

We have spent 2 wonderful unforgettable weeks at villa Sofia and would come back any time. The villa has a perfect position right by the sea, so we went fishing almost every evening to my son's delight. The property has a generous patio shaded by old, tall trees, an outdoor barbecue and sitting area and a back garden with fruits and vegetables. Chris and Sofia, the owners, graciously invited us to use anything we wanted from the garden, so we always had fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, green beans, strawberries, plums. The house has a shabby chic charm and is equipped with everything one might need: dishwasher, clothes washer, cutlery and beautiful ceramic dishes, frying pans etc.
The region is extremely beautiful, only 15’ by car you can reach Ammoudia – an amazing beach with clear blue waters right near Acheron river delta. You can take a boat trip along the river in the most amazing scenery. Only 30’ by car you can reach Acheron river springs in the mountains, go horseback riding, explore the river by foot, learn about the role the river played in Greek mythology and even have a family friendly rafting experience.
5 minutes by car from the property is Ioannis tavern, recommended by the owner, we went there daily and enjoyed the most amazing fresh food from fresh fish, grilled octopus, lamb, souvlaki, tzatziki etc.
We hope we’ll have a chance to revisit some day soon.

This house is a little paradise ...amazing gardens ...outdoor sitiing places each one for a different time of the day...decoration and architecture with special characteristics...
We felt like at home, relaxed and got rest....

“A beautiful villa with lush garden made for a perfect week”
Reviewed August 28, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We stayed in Villa Sofia mid-August and had a wonderful experience. We have been to Greece twice before, both times in Halkidiki, and this was our first time on the Ionian coast.

Chris (the owner of the property) was very friendly and welcoming. Prior to our arrival, he was very responsive to communications and gave us detailed instructions to the villa. We arrived in the evening, later than expected, and he was there to meet us and show us the place. He came back to see us off before we left.

The villa is small but functional. There is one closed master bedroom and an open loft that has a double bed. There is no third bedroom per say, but for us being a family of four, this was just right. The interior of the villa is decorated very beautifully and has a cozy feel. We loved the kitchen which was small, but extremely functional and equipped with everything a chef might need, including beautiful hand-crafted dishes and serving platters. We dined in most days so cooking in the kitchen was more than fun. It was also a real treat to be able to pick vegetables from the garden and almost everything was in season when we were there - tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant, basil, peppers, okra. But the best of all was the fig tree and the fruit was just perfectly ripe and incredibly sweet. The BBQ area is awesome and we enjoyed grilling fresh fish or souvlaki almost every night. Dinner outside was a must, and surprisingly there were no mosquitos to bother us.

The best thing about the property are the lush gardens which are beautifully set up and maintained. The grounds - which are huge - are surrounded by old trees which naturally isolate the place from its neighbours and the road in front of it. There is a huge lawn in the front, and beautiful plants in the areas around the house where we spent a lot of time reading, having coffee and eating our meals under the shade of the vines. The garden is so wonderful that we would be perfectly happy spending our time at the villa all day and going to the beach for a swim a couple of times a day. One great convenience was the cold water shower in the lawn area, so we could just have a quick rinse outside after swimming in the sea. The sea is of course great, but we found that it was serene and flat before lunch, and there were waves the second part of the day (which didn't prevent us from swimming in the afternoons). The sunsets over the sea are another unforgettable experience.

Chris was very helpful in providing suggestions for places to visit in the vicinity - we went to Lefkada, Preveza, the Nicopolis, Odyssey's bay (some 25 km to the North) and some of the neighbouring villages. The water park was also a lot of fun for the kids. The Kanali village where the villa is located is quite small and there isn't too much to do, but it has a couple of good tavernas and a supermarket, and we were so happy at the villa that we didn't need much more.

We are very thankful to have had the absolute pleasure of staying at Villa Sofia and we would go back at the first opportunity. Strongly recommend this place to families and to those looking to spend serene and quiet time on the Ionian coast.
