Disappointing food venues. Long wait times. Not able to adequately deal with number of guests. Not a convenient location. Luggage arrived almost 6 hours after our arrival. We visited in July 2017. Our transfer from train arrived too late for an excursion that we had booked.

This was our first trip to Alaska and we did it through Princess Cruises which booked this hotel as part of our tour. We were very pleased with the hotel and with the tour arranged for us. At the end of our trip, we marveled at the promptness and efficiency that this tour consisted of.

Room tip: Our room was a little far from the main hotel so if you are not capable of walking far, I would ask to be closer to the lodge.

While the lodge is very nice and located directly opposite town, it is its proximity to Denali National Park that is its main point. From here we did a bus tour of the park which is amazing. The amount of wildlife that we saw in our seven odd hours was nothing short of spectacular, Grizzlies, deer, moose, caribou, sheep, Eagles etc etc. Put this on your bucket list.

Stayed at this lodge while traveling through Alaska. Very nice resort. Like living in a little village. Enjoyed dinner show offered at the resort one evening with friends. Lots of little shops to enjoy. No hot tub which wS disappointing.

If you want something akin to a Motel 6, go elsewhere.

We began our cruise here, whereas most people end the cruise at this motel. Being cramped in cabins on a ship must have made people used to the basic rooms and bland food. We did not enjoy ourselves.

As suite passengers, we wanted to upgrade our room to something larger or nicer. We were told there are no other rooms and that the differentiator was the number and size of the bed. That meant living in a small room with no amenities.

The room consists of a bed, TV mounted on the wall, two wooden chairs, and a bathroom. It is very rustic, as I suppose all of Alaska is, and is a step up from camping.

There are a few saving graces: Denali National Park is just a few minutes away; the restaurants and bars on property were good and inexpensive; and there is a liquor store across the street from the motel. Without these, we would have been miserable.

Further downsides: the bathroom shower had traces of mold on the wall (to be expected where moisture is trapped, yes, but still not clean) and the walls are very thin. When someone walks or speaks outside your room, you definitely know it.

One upside: the staff call you if you ask to be woken up for the Northern Lights. Lucky for us, it happened just before midnight so we got a decent night's sleep. Without this perk, we would have rated this motel even lower.
