Buoyed by the good reviews on this site and on the recommendation of a friend who visited last year I decided to take the plunge and booked with Nielson - and am very glad to have done so. The whole experience was fantastic from beginning to end.
The best investment a holiday company of this type can make is in their staff, and although it was getting near to the end of the season and some staff were obviously exhausted, they still worked extremely hard to cater to our needs.

Recently returned from 2 weeks here and had a superb time. I've done Neilson holidays before, so know exactly what to expect and this place is along the same lines.

I've divided the review into "The Good" and "The Not So Good" to make it easy to read - I don't really have any significant criticisms of this place and overall my holiday was fabulous, but nothing is perfect so i have listed some negatives as well.

The Good
Hotel is spacious and very clean. My room and all common areas were spotless.
Food is excellent, really tasty and a very good selection.
Activities offered were great and the instruction I received was good
Neilson staff worthy of a special mention - Alex (ski), Josh & Spencer (Bikes), Sam & Tim & David (windsurf), Ramos (Fitness).

The Not So Good
Some of the equipment is in need of some tlc/repair. I know it is nearly the end of the season, but still. Also, the bike lads spend all of their free time fixing punctures in inner tubes that have already been fixed 30 times before - Neilson, send them some tubes for God's sake! Preferably with slime.
The 2 flights (Manchester and Gatwick) arrive within an hour of each other in Saturday afternoon. Lunch service is extended so that the Gatwick arrivals get full (inclusive) lunch service. This is then hurriedly cleared away and the Manchester arrivals are steered to the Pool bar where they can purchase lunch. Slightly unfair.

A great holiday - I will probably be back.

Top tips:
Take some travel sickness pills for the transfer from the airport and don't sit at the back of the coach. I learnt this the hard way.
Go to Parasol, the Cocktail bar in town. Awesome.
Eat at Zorba the Buddha - far end of town near the harbour.
Do the bike ride to Sigri - hard work, but worth it.
Get out on the bikes and visit some of the other local villages for a coffee.
Learn to waterski.

Room Tip: The Hillside rooms are quite a trek away from the beach area. Seaview rooms are bigger than the hillside view.

After a long transfer our first impressions was a little let down as we were expecting a more picturesque setting which this is not.
Also our first encounter with more senior staff was less than pleasing flowing an outbreak of ants in our room which was not dealt with promptly and was met with an undermining response.
However despite these initial glitches the venue has a charm about it that seems to get under your skin.

The Greek staff were brilliant, polite and very helpful (the greek lady on the info centre/reception, the greek lady in the restaurant and George the chef, not forgetting the cleaning staff that did an excellent job everyday)

The food was of an excellent standard for what should be expected considering it was mass produced for a lot of guests - well done kitchen team.

Now on to the beach team which provided windsurfing, sailing, water skiing, SUP, kayaking and more... which was the main reason for our stay- there was a number of obvious staff members that stood out and delivered excellent service/banter which was a refreshing combination. Tim (windsurfer) - professional, genuine and very helpful. David (windsurfer) - Knowledgeable, friendly and provided lengthy and informative theory sessions. Dan (sailing) - Great teacher and sarcasm) there were a couple of others that I've not mentioned but these 3 really put the effort in and were a credit to Neilson.

The kit had seen better days although is was getting close to the end of the season it would have been nice to not have so many damages, however there was a lot of kit on offer and for the most part it did the job.

There were a lot more activities on offer away from the beach and from what we heard they were also of an excellent standard.

Overall we had an excellent holiday as we did all the things we went for and if there was any other gripes others would notice we didn't as we were constantly busy attempting to windsurf till we forgot what dry land looked like! (thank you rescue boat).

Room Tip: If your like us and spent every second either on the water or doing something outside the standard rooms will do you just fine.

Just returned from Lesvos. The staff and instructors at the Aeolian Village were fantastic. There was so much to do, all brilliantly instructed and scheduled. Food was excellent, and George was out every meal time to explain what was on offer. Only comment I would make is for the desserts to be smaller as often you wanted to taste two or three! Hog Roast evening, which was an addition the the Club Board was well worth it. The Hog and Chicken Roast were superb. Enjoyed the whole two weeks from start to finish.

Overall a great holiday, which I would definitely recommend, but there were both positive and negative aspects.

Positive aspects were:
- Lovely big room on the hillside with fantastic views over the resort and beach
- Great food in the restaurant (thanks to George the chef)
- Very friendly hotel staff, especially the Greek staff members in the bar and restaurant and on reception
- Fantastic range of activities: tennis, mountain biking, windsurfing, dinghy sailing, kayak, SUP, fitness classes, running groups...
- Excellent tuition for tennis (thanks Andy and James over from Halkidiki and Sivota respectively) and windsurfing (thanks Tim and Sam)
- Nice location just 10 minutes walk from the lovely village of Skala Eressos

Disappointing aspects were:
- Bikes were in a poor state of repair: both bikes I took out had faulty gears, and the inner tubes were wrecked with perished seams and more puncture repairs than you could count
- Windsurfing kit was battered and showing its age: very battered boards with multiple repairs, sails with battens missing
(It was the end of the season, but the kit should still be good for guests coming out in September.)
- The beach was closed on our arrival day, which was the windiest day of the week - very frustrating when you've come on holiday for the windsurfing
- My expectations had been set by a previous Neilson holiday at the Cosmos in Vassiliki where the beach staff always helped you to get windsurfing kit in and out. Not the case at Aeolian Village. (Perhaps one of the reasons why the kit is a bit battered?)
- The transfer from the airport is 2 hours, which feels long combined with the 4 hour flight.

Room Tip: If you don't mind a little longer to walk to the main hotel facilities and the beach, the rooms on the hillside are much more secluded and have much, much better views.
