I stayed at Golden Star Hotel in Analipsi for two weeks in July 2012 with my wife, two kids and sister. Overall the hotel was quite good. It is located in the small village Analipsi on the seaside 20 km east of Heraklion. The village is quiet and safe, no transit road, just local traffic. Even though the hotel beach is across the street - no worries - traffic there is marginal. Main road to get to Heraklion or eastbound is roughly 1 km south of the village. Due to late plane arrival we arrive in the hotel 2 am in the night. Despite this time cold buffet was offered to us. Receptionist – middle age man was helpful and friendly – not just on the first night – throughout the stay. There were three receptionists – don’t remember their names – the man and two ladies of the similar age. One lady great – smiling and willing to help, the other one with permanent ‘you, again??’ type of face. One day my mobile was out of battery and I have not got charger with me, while staying on the pool. So rather than going the room to charge it I asked her for the favor to charge it for me. Can you believe she was very unhappy to do that? OK. Since I started from the disappointments let me cover them in one go. Room was very moderate – very small (the only time I remember the rooms being equally small was 2-star, discount hotel in Side, Turkey, 20 years ago). We have in the room extra bed for our kid. There was virtually no space to put the bed and avoid direct flow of air-conditioning cold air. Truly not acceptable. And the third major drawback was poor variety of food during the dinner. Mainly 2-3 dishes with some side vegetables, etc. And similar every day. Actually the breakfast has the same weakness however it is not that critical during breakfast. We were at halfboard so I cannot evaluate lunch re variety of food. While choice was poor the taste was quite good. I am not extremely picky and I cannot remember anything I could not eat. What was unusual at HB standard in Greece all drinks were free during meals – including alcoholic drinks – beer, wine. Service at the dining place was very good, fast and nice – most of the staff were young Romanian ladies. Hotel is clean, well maintained (especially garden). For some reason 70-80% of guest are French most of them are middle aged which makes hotel atmosphere quiet. To be honest I am not sure if I heard any sound of evenings shows. Pool is clean and sufficient space wise. The island in the middle offer nice water diving opportunities. There is one water slide - enough to keep small kids busy for long hours :-) As mentioned before hotel beach is just across the street. The beach is not magnificent – narrow, sand is not fine at all. However it is quite well for swimming - the breakwater preventing high waves. Good stuff was also all beach equipment was brand new – sunbeds, umbrellas and tables and what is more it was not chargeable. There was always enough places to take – generally hotel is not crowded hence easy to get the sunbed at the pool or on the beach even if you are not early bird. Overall I tend to think I would recommend this hotel and place to those who wants to have quiet stay. I felt there like starring slow motion movie. Great feeling...
