This is our 2nd visit to Stella Palace. Again we stayed in the superior room, no getting up for sun beds, just total relaxation! Because we were returners we received water every day, and was also invited to the VIP meal which was absolutely fantastic. The staff are all amazing, nothing is too much trouble . I had heard some of the rooms are dated, but if you stay in the superior rooms, they are modern and clean. We had a lovely cleaner every day, who worked really hard. Hope to return soon.

Room tip: Superior rooms are so relaxing

We used Crete Taxis for our transfers which were £30 each way. Very reliable and a lovely Mercedes.
We arrived at 11.30pm after a delay and we were offered a cold buffet which was very welcome.
We were shown to our pool view room which was of a good size with lots of wardrobe space and hangers.
The room and patio furniture were dated as has been mentioned previously so I wasn’t as disappointed as I would of been if I hadn’t read the reviews.
I took advice of another review and tipped the maid on the first day.
She did an excellent job of keeping our room clean and putting a bottle of water in the fridge daily.
For the price of a kettle it baffles me why they do not provide one?
I would happily of paid an extra £20 on the cost of my holiday to have been able to have a coffee when waking up.
We ate at both the A la carte restaurants which were excellent.
Breakfast outside was a more chilled affair, as was lunch, the main restaurant did get quite noisy at times but we always found something nice to eat and were given a carafe of wine with lunch and dinner. Rosé was the best option.
The snack bar came in very useful.
The entertainment was ok.
The guy serving at the inside bar was excellent, the best cocktails.
The beach isn’t pretty but we did swim a couple of times.
We took the land train into Heraklion where we found a couple of lovely bars on the waters edge.
We went on the pirate boat trip which was great fun with fun staff (pirates)
We also had a great time at Watercity.
Overall the hotel rooms need updating
The staff were very friendly though like a previous review mentioned we were not asked on check out whether we enjoyed our stay?
The shower room is a must for late checkout. Saved having to keep the room.
The on-site shop is very good.
I think the reason that the all inclusive stops at 11.00 is to stop the hotel appealing to the rowdy teenagers?
We just lined ours up :)
Also if the Gym was free it would no doubt be full. The equipment was of good standard.
The walls of the room are thin so if after the first night you are next to a noisy family swap.
Like anywhere you will always get the odd inconsiderate family who let their kids run around the dining hall or scream for ages in the pool.... we have experienced that in high end hotels.

If the rooms were updated we would consider returning.

We stayed at Stella Palace for 2 weeks in August. We had a pool view family room (double plus twin for our teenage boys). First impression of the hotel is very good as you enter the large reception area and no part of the hotel complex disappoints. Apart, that is, from the room itself which is underwhelming - kind of dark and unwelcoming and ours had a disappointing outside area which was small and offered no privacy. TV was hopeless too - either CNN or Eurosport with German commentary. To be fair the room was clean and functional and we weren't there to watch telly ! Wi-fi in the room was good, but very patchy around the pool.

The pools were great - we were next to the 'top' pool nearer the hotel reception/restaurants and always managed to get beds without getting up at the crack of dawn. However, it is irritating to see so many of the poolside beds with towels on but no body using them for huge parts of the day. Selfish !! The pool was nice and warm and rarely crowded and even when Dr Zulu had his water volleyball games there was still plenty of space for us non-participants.

Staff very friendly, efficient and work extremely hard. They worked especially hard in the main restaurant, where we often felt they needed more staff. It was often hard to find a table to sit at as they weren't able to clear them quickly enough. That's no criticism of the staff in there as they were always friendly, patient and helpful. Food was very good - quality and quantity !

Other people have mentioned the volume of plastic this hotel uses and I certainly noticed it at the pool bars/snack bars. Plastic cups, straws, spoons, bowls in vast quantities and no sign that I could see of any recycling bins. Maybe they sort it all out afterwards ? I doubt it.

The hotel does have its own small beach area which we used a couple of times at the end of the day. Not pleasant enough to want to spend all day there but nice to have a dip in the sea within the walled, sheltered area of water in front of the beach.

In summary, a lovely place. Nice buildings/pool areas, friendly hard-working staff and lovely food.

Room tip: Pool and/or garden view best

We had a great to e here, so many pools for kids and the food was out of this world. My only negative is that bottled water and coffee is self service at the bars and not part of the all inclusive. I also had to pay €25 for the week to utilise the gym. Besides that it was a great holiday.
