Spot on with the customer service @ this place. Both Dimitris & Kat are very welcoming. Dimitris is very knowledgeable about the island and made the best recommendations of places to visit. We enjoyed the comp breakfast, pool and the bar. The rooms are clean and even have a kitchenette w/ fridge being a bonus. The beach and restaurants are a short walk. The place is an ideal location enabling you to visit many of the top ten things to do in Crete. Superb!!

Just got back from spending a week at SunRise Suites. Besides the perfect locatioin, close to Chania, the gorge, and beautiful beaches, the place itself is terrific. A really nice pool, great place to eat breakfast and a wonderful staff. The manager Dimitris was there every morning to greet us and hear how our day was the previous day and then to help us plan the upcoming day. Katerina welcomed us every morning at breakfast with a hug and a smile as well as our daily Greek lesson. It's a great place to relax and its also a great place to use as home base if you want to see the best of Crete. One really nice thing is that you can walk to many restaurants in the nearby village. Small pool bar was an added bonus to sit at the end of a day and enjoy a Mythos.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for the higher rooms with the really beautiful views.

At the late minute I was able to take a week off from work so we serched the internet for a holiday. Arranged our flights then after reading reviews we booked the Sunrise Suites. The place is an absolute gem. Our appartment was clean, nicely decorated and well maintained ( it was very hot when we were there and the airconditioning was free )
The complex itself is spotless and without doubt the best place to stay if your looking at Kalyves. Other reviewers have commented on how good the manager Dimitris and his assistant Katerina are, well I've stayed in many places of varying qualty and they are certainly the most wonderful and welcoming people I can remember. Thank you Dimitris, hope to see you again one day.
Overall I can't fault the place. It's a beautiful complex run by wonderful people. Don't know when but we're definately going back.

Just back from a beautiful week in sunny Crete having stayed in the Sun Rise Suites . I read the reviews before traveling and I fully agree with the complements paid to hotel manager Dimitris and ever smiling Katerina. Wonderful people and a beautiful place.
I am so glad we went to Crete, the restaurants and local people were so friendly and welcoming.

We spent our honeymoon here in mid-July. We could not have picked a better place. The staff was spectacularly helpful and genuinely nice. Dimitri, the hotel manager, and Katerina gave everyone their full attention and made sure everyone was enjoying themselves. The rooms were comfortable with air conditioning if you need it. Though we would just open the windows and the sliding doors to let the cool ocean breeze come through at night. The view from our room was a great overlook of the village and the bay.

We would start all our mornings with a breakfast prepared by Katerina. Then we would take a dip in the pool and relax by the pool bar. Dimitri would come out and talk with all the guests at breakfast and make sure people were more than content with their stay.

Kalyves village also has some great cafes and restaurants to check out that are just a short (less than 10 minute) walk from the hotel.

If you need advice on where to go around Crete just ask any of the staff. They are more than willing to impart their knowledge of the area to you. Dimitri even gave us tips on where to park in some of the busier parts of Chania and Rethymno.

This place couldn't be bettered. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. The pool is immaculate and perfect for families with its nice childrens pool. Dimitris was on hand for our every beck and call, and all to rare thing in today's tourist industry. At first we though Kalyves was a little touristy, but now think it is perfect, you just have to choose where to go. The beach is fantastic and only a short stroll from the hotel. Really, you can't wrong with this place.

We stayed at Sunrise Suites for a few days in July and enjoyed it very much. We got a warm welcome by the hotel manager Dimitris and his colleague Katerina. The room was large and the bathroom too. The hotel was only seven years old and was fresh and clean with modern equipment, although the beds were a bit too hard for us. The room also had a kitchenette and a balcony with a view of the pool area and the coast. The pool area was nice and not crowded. There was wifi in the lobby but not in the room, where there was internet connection with cable instead and Dimitris kindly let us borrow a cable.
The breakfast area was outside and had great views of the coast. Breakfast was ok with yoghurt, bread, cheese, juice etc, but there were no vegetables or fruit. Katerina greeted us with a happy “kali mera” when we came to have breakfast and after a while also Dimitris came to have a chat with the guests. He told us about the area and also gave us some advice about where to go and what to see in Crete. He spoke English well (having studied in Scotland) and it was nice talking to him. In the evening when we came back from dinner, we thought of having a drink at the pool bar. Dimitris was at the bar, and although it was after closing time of the bar he offered us to buy drinks and we had a nice chat with him again.
The hotel is located uphill a few hundred metres from the water front, so it had great views, and the short walk from the beach and restaurants was no problem. Kalyves is a small village with a good beach and a few beach tavernas (Ikaros taverna was good). It’s a nice and relaxing place to stay for a few days between Chania and Rethymno.
We were going to take the bus to Rethymno from Kalyves, and so asked Dimitris if we had to take the bus from the village back to Chania first or if the bus from Chania to Rethymno stopped in Kalyves. He explained to us how to walk up to the bus stop on the main road (25 minutes slow walk) to catch the bus to Rethymno, as that bus did not go down to the village.
