“Excellent stay for our family”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013

We had 6 nights in Plakures and enjoyed every minute. The rooms are well appointed (we took a 1 bed apartment to accommodate our family of 2 adults and 2 younger children) and very clean with a stocked fridge (that can be used for your own drinks too) and a 2 ring cooking hob which we didnt use. Beds are very firm and pillows very flat but they do provide soft comforters to put under aching backs and extra pillows on request - suggest you request them before your first nights sleep! Lovely pool area with adjacent toddlers and main pool - some pool toys available which I guess were left by previous guests. Friendly efficient service and a good restaurant which we decided was the best we tried in the area - one suggestion would be to provide daily 'specials' on the menu for people who stay more than a couple of nights and like to see some variety.

Local beaches are nice - but our favourite was at the north end of Falarssana (drive to the end of the road following signs for the ancient falarssana archaeological dig, park beyond the Panorama hotel and walk through the reggae bar down the 'staircase' and onto the beach. There is a nice 75cm deep lagoon area that is safe for smaller kids as well and reasonably gently shelving beach for more confident swimmers who dont want to get out of their depth. We preferred this to the 'big beach' that admittedly had nicer sand but the water gets too deep too quick for little ones.

Back to the hotel ...the BIG highlight is 6 year old 'Lava' the Great Dane who stole our childrens hearts - they cried for 20 minutes in the hire car as we drove back to the airport ...

Highly recommended and we will be back.

Hotel Plakures is located on the fantastic beach of Falasarna in western Chania.
The property and rooms are Impeccably clean, simply and tastefully decorated and surrounded by a very lush garden, it is a breath of fresh air when compared to the crowded beach below.
We stayed at the hotel and used it as a base to enjoy the beach and surrounding areas.
Breakfast was fantastic and although we didnt try the restaurant, we heard only good things about the food.
The hotel caters mostly to German guests and as such, most of the staff dont speak Greek. This was not a problems as all the staff were incredibly polite, very hospitable and spoke excellent English.
I highly recommend the hotel and the reasons I give it four and not five stars are the shared balcony (I would prefer the extra privacy of a balcony partition) and the price which although not exorbitant was more expensive than similar offerings on the island (although not on Falasarna beach).

We stayed here for one night. This property is really geared to folks who are doing longer stays (one week or longer) and it is nearly all Germans who stay here. The pool is great and there is a truly beautiful view over the beach. The rooms are very simple, but quite spacious and spotlessly clean and minimally furnished. Bed is very hard. There is a/c in the room and a refrig with stocked essentials (for a minibar fee). That is a great touch. The food at the restaurant was mixed- lunch and breakfast greek offerings were good but dinner was almost inedible and very expensive relative to the value of other places in Crete. We may have just been there on the bad night. Again it might be because we are not German or we did not have a long stay, but the service was not warm in the slightest- no one asked about our stay in greece, what our plans were, what we needed help with. For a small hotel this was pretty unusual since smaller hotels usually are the very best at these personal service touches from the staff. The place overall is good value for the price and the location is great for this beach area, so although I was split between giving it 3 or 4 bubbles I think 4 bubbles is a better rating given the value. But for me personally, I would not stay again given how many great, service-oriented hotels there are in Greece.

Although we had made arrangements about the date and the hour of the check in and the check out and they gave us a price for this specific period of accommodation and we confirmed the price and the specific period of accommodation by e-mail and also by phone when we went to pay they asked from us an extra charge !!!!
Also keep in mind that the prices in the restaurant that is located in the hotel are very expensive …. One Greek salad costs 8.60 Euro!!!!

Owned by a German-Greek family, Plakures caters almost German families. But we soon appreciated the bicultural aspect of the hotel, which seamlessly blends the good parts of Greece (the food, the weather) and Germany (intense efficiency and very large breakfast buffets). There is a lovely pool & gardens; the pool was found to be of the highest quality. Though the area is dry, the hotel property is lush. Gravel pathways that connect the rooms to the pool and restaurant are lined with palm, fig and pomegranate trees. From the spacious sun–terrace with pergolas you have a breathtaking view over the beach of Falassarna. The hotel is close to the beach: the long sandy beach with several calm bays and jewel-colored water is only 300 m away from it. There are pleasant dining and drinking options near the hotel.
We were quite impressed by the overall look of the hotel, especially the well maintained grounds and pool. Our room which was in a building away from the main hotel was well appointed, spacious and clean. It had a good seaview. Towels are changed for fresh ones daily.
The staff were very friendly. For breakfast you can choose from a varied buffed, excellent meze for dinner. In the restaurant they offer many special meals of cretan region as well as house wine, freshly squeezed orange juice, olives and olives–oil from their groves.

My family and i spent one week there and enjoyed every minute. Very friendly, quiet beaches, my daughter fell in love with the horses. If we wanted action we would jump in the jeep and tour. Great fun and we plan on doing it again this year.

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst travelling about Crete.
Having looked at most of the other places to stay in Falasarna, by far this was the best.
The rooms are spacious, cool & chic with good bathrooms. There is a lovely pool & gardens. Close to the beach.
Good buffet breakfast. Excellent meze for dinner altho' main courses were very disappointing.
Run by Germans for Germans. Very child friendly & welcoming.
Would be a great place just to chill out.
